After many years working in Vet Clinics Owner Jessica Moore determined that a cage free grooming environment was needed in the Lansing Area. After 6 years of business in the Lansing Area, Jessica moved her business to working out of her house in Oak Park Michigan. Modern Groomers was named in honor of her grandfather who at a young age started his barber shop Modern Barbers. Award winning Groomer

As a graduate of Michigan School of K9 Cosmetology Jessica Moore finally was doing the thing that she loves most being with animals. After working with a variety of Vet Clinics she determined that she wanted to start her own salon. As an extreme creative groomer her first puppy Bella (toy poodle) was the inspiration for the pink poodle in our logo and was frequently seen sitting in the window of the salon. Her next addition is Tanvi a sh*t-tzu poodle mix and is Bella's half sister. The newest addition is Highview’s Beaker over a Bunsen Burner, but he goes by Beaker. He is a standard poodle who is working his was to being a service and therapy dog!!

I hope this post finds you and your family happy and healthy this holiday season. This, unfortunately, is not the holiday news I wanted to be spreading this year. After months of speaking with financial planners, business consultants, lawyers, close family, friends, and my own medical professionals and looking at all options given, I am devastated to announce that as of December 31 of this year, we will be closing our salon doors in Lansing.

I will be relocating to work out of my house in Oak Park, Mi. If you are willing, I would be happy to continue grooming your furry family members from my house. As for the current appointments scheduled, please let me know if you are willing to travel to Oak Park and we can find a time that that works for both of us.

I want to thank each and every one of you for you love, support, and loyalty over the last 6 years. This decision is one of the hardest choices I have ever had to make and it did not come lightly. Again, thank you for the support over the last 6 years.

Hey everyone,
Just wanted to send out a quick update.
Surgery went well and I’m on my way to healing. Now that being said I am not allowed to groom by myself for at least the next two weeks. I will be making calls to those I haven’t talked to yet about appointments and want we can do. That being said the salon will be closed on Saturday May 22 as I can’t work alone and Kelli has a family funeral to attend. Kelli and I will do our best to get everyone rescheduled.

Update Time:
Today I underwent the first carpal tunnel release surgery. As well as having a small mass removed from my pinky finger and a cortisone shot in my right hand. I have been put on pretty strict restrictions for the first two weeks as I have stitches in. After that I can do some light work and slowly increasing from there. That being said I will be canceling or moving appointments as needed to aid in my healing so I can get back as soon as possible. I do have a backup option but if you can or are will to miss an appointment please call and let us know!
For know I am doing well, and miss you all. I hope you all understand and I’m sorry for any inconvenience.

Good afternoon MG Family,
Jess here with a life and salon update. As some of you know, the salon has gotten super busy in the last couple months. It has been a smidge difficult for us to keep up with all of the phone calls, emails, text messages, carrier pigeons... that we simply haven’t been able to return calls. We are so sorry if we have missed your call or haven’t returned your call in a timely manner. Which brings us to the life update part of the post. Some of you know that during the Lockdown last year, my then fiancé and I moving to the metro Detroit area for his job. And I changed my schedule to 4 days a week commuting. Well 5 weeks ago my husband and I purchased our house in Oak Park. I want to put everyone at ease that I am NOT closing the salon here. For now I will continue to commute the hour and 10 minutes each way. The other thing going on it that I have been dealing with some pretty significant hand pain and numbness and I will be undergoing carpal tunnel surgery on May 11th. Looks like I know for sure that I will be off for a period of time. I will be making calls to clients that are currently scheduled on the days I will be off work. This is first of two surgeries. The second surgery will probably involve more time off but once I’m healed we will go from there. I would appreciate everyone’s understanding during this thin as we navigate how to handle thing....

As some of you know Bella is the reason I became a dog groomer over 9 years ago and helped me out of a very dark place in my life. It only made sense that when I opened Modern Groomers 5 years ago that she became our mascot. Of course it helped that she was bright pink at the time!!
I wish this post was a happier one but today I helped make the most humane decision we could for her and are helping her go in peace. I am currently on my way to MSU with Tanvi to say our goodbyes. I will be taking a smidgen of time off to grieve.
I know she will have other MG dogo’s to welcome her into the dog park in the sky.

Thank you to everyone for all the love and support this past year! We couldn’t have made it without you. Here’s to hoping the 2021 is a better year for all!!

⁣ MG family,
We want to take a second to thank everyone for their patience and understanding in the craziness of this year. Due to the rise of COVID numbers again and the holidays approaching we want to take a second and restate some of the protocols we have in place.
1. If you or a family member in your household is not feeling well or have been tested and are waiting for results for our safety and yours, we ask that you cancel your appointment. We understand it’s not ideal, but we will work to accommodated you once you are feeling better or results have come back negative.
2. To keep all parties safe, Please put a mask on before entering the salon. We ask that the mask covers both your mouth and your nose. If you are not able to wear a mask due to a health reason, we understand but ask that you keep your distance.
3. We do have a 30 minute pick up window once your pet is ready. Please wait for us to let you know when your pet is completed and pick up your dog promptly. A fee will be applied if late pickup arrangements are not made prior to your appointment.
4. Please wait outside if you see another client in the lobby. We are limiting the lobby to one client at a time. Please use hand sanitizer prior to entering the salon.
5. When calling the salon, please leave a detailed message. This is the best way to get ahold of us. Because it’s the holidays, please give us a couple days to return the call. We will get back to you as soon as possible.
Please know that we are taking this seriously and that we want to everyone to stay as safe as possible.

Not what I wanted to be updating this morning but we are dealing with a massive water main break. This means we do not have water at the salon currently. The city is working on getting us water. Please stay tuned for an update!

Update: water is back on we are dealing with pipes that were laid in the 40’s. This could happen again, we just don’t know!!

First of all we want to thank all of you for being understanding over the last 10 weeks. We are truly grateful to our MG family. Reopening requires new realities going forward.
CHECK IN:
We will have 2 A frame signs outside the salon. If someone is in the lobby, please wait by the signs till the lobby is empty. We ask if you are able to please wear a mask for our safety and yours. Once the lobby is empty please proceed inside by and use the hand sanitizer outside before coming in. We have two options for drop off. We have contact free where you put fluffy in a Kennel and remove all leashes, harnesses, and collars - once you leave we will grab fluffy from the kennel. The second option is to do a leash transfer, where we put a slip lead on fluffy and you remove all leashes, harnesses, and collars. After you have done this we will talk to you about your pets groom from 6 feet apart. Please know that if your dog is matted we will be cutting them short for the first groom back. We understand that with everything, it is not your fault but we want to make sure your fur babies are as comfortable as possible and de-matting can be very uncomfortable and painful to your pet. We also ask that we keep conversations to a minimum. We know all of you want an update on our lives, but in order to get as many fur babies in as possible and stay on time we need to keep conversations to a minimum. On your way out of the salon please feel free to use hand sanitizer from the dispenser located on the inside of the door.
CHECK OUT:
Please wait for us to call you. Due to the amount of clients we are trying to accommodate in the salon we are instituting a 30 minute pick up window, unless other arraignments are made 5 days prior to your appointment. If you do not pick up your pet within 30 minutes of our pickup call, you will be charged a late pick up fee of $25. Upon arrival, same steps apply as with drop off. We are adding Venmo as a contact free form of payment. If you pay with cash or check, please put it in an envelope provided at drop off. Payment by phone is accepted with a $2 processing fee. Normal credit charges are accepted with wipe down of your card.

Who is ready for good news???
As of June 8th we are allowed to open for business again. That being said we have over 250 clients that need to get in so we ask that you PLEASE WAIT FOR US TO CALL YOU. We will be making calls later this week and posting a video on the check in and check out process. Also now that we are reopening Jess will not be coming back till June 15th as she is still working on moving to Farmington Hills. She will be working as many hours as she can at first but since the drive is over an hour she will be reducing the number of days she works. We are excited to see you all again soon!
