We would like to extend our appreciation to SAVE, A Friend to Homeless Animals for rescuing Finn, thus providing him with a greater opportunity to secure a permanent home. During the freedom ride, this canine demonstrated laudable behavior. His assessment results were impressive, and he has been successfully potty trained, showing the ability to delay urination until he is outside his kennel. Those interested in meeting this dog should contact SAVE, A Friend to Homeless Animals.

Good Dog Meet (in Shelter)
Adult-Only Home Preferred
Gordita ACCT-A-212344 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Gordita must have confirmed placement with an ADOPTER or RESCUE PARTNER by MONDAY, FEBRUARY 24th at 10AM. Should Gordita’s medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change.

Due to being significantly overcapacity with animals and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted. If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately. Due to limited space, timestamps may also be proceeded with early so it is imperative to let us know if you are considering adopting or tagging an animal.

Gordita is an approximately 1 year old female mixed breed dog that came into the shelter as a stray at the end of January. She had great notes from her finder including that she is gentle and loving with strangers, good with their resident cat, and is child friendly and playful. They also said that Gordita likes to snuggle, and has some anxiety when outside. The finder even took Gordita to the vet to get her some anxiety meds prescribed so that she would be less anxious about being lost.

At the shelter, Gordita has been fearful but friendly. She seeks a lot of comfort from her handler, and has good meets with other dogs!

Here’s what the shelter staff and volunteers had to say about Gordita:

Per volunteer ⅖:
Meet our little Cheesy Gordita Crunch, AKA Gordita! This petite pittie pup was found running loose on January 22nd. A kindhearted citizen took her in, but when a week passed and no owner came forward, Gordita was brought to ACCT Philly in the hopes a new family will come to adopt her!

Gordita is a young girl, estimated to be just a year old, and is very timid in the loud, unfamiliar shelter environment. Her finder noted she was extremely gentle with them, though a bit shy, and loved to snuggle! When they walked her on a leash outdoors, Gordita seemed fearful and unaccustomed to the leash, so her new family may need to help build her confidence while she gets used to leash walks.

Per staff 1/31:
A volunteer brought her into the office and she came in with low tail and ears and did a few rounds of sniffs, but as soon as the volunteer sat down she immediately loosened her body, allowed full body pets and licked her face multiple times. She also solicited attention from staff and allowed full rubs and got super playful and wiggly. Another volunteer (male) came into the room and she went right up to introduce herself and allowed pets. Such a sweet lady!

Per staff 1/31:
Gordita is very fearful to new people, so for now is no kids. She's very sweet and seeks a lot of comfort, so if her fear/reactivity to new people decreases, can go home with 15+ dog savvy kids.

Per staff 1/31:
BEHAVIOR EVALUATION:

KNOWN HISTORY:
Stray - did well with finder’s cat and children

KENNEL PRESENTATION:
Gordita was laying on her bed when I approached her kennel. She came right up with soft eyes and mid to low wags when she saw me. She sniffed me curiously through the door, and allowed me to easily leash her. Gordita came out on her own without any issue once secured.

LEASH SKILLS:
Pulls minimally, but likes to walk right in front of you

HANDLING :
Gordita got so scared and nervous when we entered the eval room. She lowered her body, got tense and began trembling, and froze, paw lifting in the middle of the room. She came over to me with some baby talk and allowed some comforting head pets right away. She leaned into me with soft eyes, and would whine at me when I was too busy typing to give her attention. She lets you know how she’s feeling! SHe wouldn’t hop into my lap, so I crouched down next to her. She allowed all handling, but did get nervous and began to stress yawn and tense her mouth as I moved around her body, specifically to her stomach. Another staff member entered the room and Gordita backed into me, trembling. The staff member stayed a couple feet away, but the longer she stood there, Gordita began to bark and growl at her. They started off very shaky and scared, like she wasn’t committed, but the longer the staff member just stood there, the harder her barks got. She never escalated past hard barks and growling, but Gordita will need slow intros to new people. Gordita took treats from my hand very politely, but did not actually eat any, and would spit them out on the ground. She showed some interest in toys, but didn’t take possession of any. Overall, Gordita is a very nervous, fearful girl that will need an understanding adopter who can help her work through her fear!

PLAY:
No interest, too fearful

TOYS
Some interest, sniffed with perked up ears and low wags, but didn’t take possession

COLOR LEVEL & ANY RECOMMENDATIONS:
Blue

Per staff 1/30:
Round two of trying to get Gordita out of her kennel! Once again she was very happy to see me with low but fast tail wags, and gave me a few kisses. She was still too scared to exit her kennel though, even with encouragement from myself and five other staff members. She greeted all staff members politely with sniffs and allowed them to pet her, and even ate some wet food from their hand, but was still too nervous to leave her kennel.

Per staff 1/30:
I met Gordita in the hallway by intake. She was standing frozen in place and trembling, very fearful. I came to visit her in her kennel about an hour later - she was still shaking but came to the front of her kennel with low tail wags. She allowed me to leash her after dodging it a couple times, let me pet her, sniffed my hand and face, but was too scared to exit her kennel. She would bark and wag her tail when other dogs passed by. After about 10 minutes she would not exit with treats/encouragement so left her in her kennel and will try again shortly.

Sasha ACCT-A-173307 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Sasha must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 22ND at 10AM. Should Sasha’s medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change.

Sasha is a friendly and affectionate pup who loves making new friends! With her wiggly excitement and social nature, she eagerly seeks attention and enjoys leaning in for pets. Sasha was originally surrendered by her owners in September and was quickly adopted, but was returned on January 29th due to the owner not having the resources to care for her anymore. Sasha is a smart girl who knows “sit” and takes treats with the utmost gentleness. She also enjoys playtime, bringing energy and enthusiasm to every interaction. She’s ready to find a loving home where she can share her warmth and joy—could that be with you? Sasha is open to meeting children, so please bring everyone in the household along for a meet. She is looking for a home with no cats and can be dog selective, so she must meet any resident dogs as well. Due to her length of stay, Sasha is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner or adopter.

BEHAVIOR:

02/19/2025 volunteer notes: Sasha is a bundle of pure joy and fun! This playful girl had us laughing the entire time—she was way too busy having fun to sit still for a photo. The moment you meet her, she’ll grab her favorite toy, run over, and invite you to a game of tug-of-war (which she plans on winning!).

But don’t let her goofy side fool you—Sasha is also a great listener. She knows “sit” like a pro and walks beautifully on a leash. Whether she’s chasing a toy, zooming around with excitement, or leaning in for pets, her happiness is absolutely contagious.

Per staff 2/17: Took Sasha out for a dog meet with a male dog since she reportedly did better with them. She was easy to leash but immediately started barking at the dogs she could see in the kennels even though they were pretty far away. We went out back while waiting for the other dog and she sniffed around and was pulling a bit hard so I made the leash into a harness. Through the fence she bared teeth, so we tried a walkalong which went well. She barked a few times when we were standing near the other dog. We then let them meet face to face and she quickly jumped at him. He snapped back so we pulled them apart and ended the meet.
Per volunteer 2/15/25: Reactive [to other dogs] through fence. Silly, goofy, playful, vocal, pulls but SO sweet.

Per volunteer 2/14/25: Reactive [to other dogs] in kennel but not outside. Energetic, barky.

Per staff 2/13/25: Lots of energy.

Per staff 2/10/25: Well behaved on leash.

Per volunteer 2/9/25: Excited by other dogs, very sweet, friendly.

Per volunteer 2/5/25 Plenty of zoomies, sat for treats.

Per volunteer 2/4/25: A lot of pent up energy, but calmed down after zoomies.

Per volunteer 2/2/25: My wiggly butt girl Sasha eagerly greeted me at her kennel and was so excited to get outside! We went for a long walk where she continues to walk perfectly on a leash and seemed very interested in meeting other dogs. She also appears to be house trained since the last two days I took her out, she did her business outside and it didn’t appear to have soiled her kennel. She is such a sweetie!

Per volunteer 2/2/25: Very fixated on other dogs, pulled hard. SO playful + sweet, loved stuffies + zoomies!

Per day trip 2/1/25: We took Sasha to Forbidden Drive for a two-hour outing. She is trusting and hopped right into our car. She was very excited to start her adventure and was quite vocal about letting us know. She did eventually settle down in the backseat. Sasha is an agile hiker and excellent runner. She definitely loved the sights, sounds and smells of the great outdoors and would hike as long as you care to take her! She pulls moderately on the leash, but she also looks back for direction. Seems like she had some pent up energy she needed to burn off. We were told she’s dog-reactive and while she is, it’s manageable. She mostly wants to get up and go! Joggers, bikers and people going by are no problem. She met a couple of people who said hello to her and she was relaxed, friendly and receptive. She was friendly with us and welcomed our affection. Oh, and she’s pretty! And her tail never stops wagging!

Per volunteer 2/1/25: Good on leash.

Per volunteer 2/1/25: Very sweet but she pulls.

Per volunteer 1/31/25: Sasha made my night with her bubbly personality and wiggly butt. She is an absolute doll and made me giggle with the way she chases after toys. She walks great on the leash and even knows how to sit! She’s the best girl!

1/30/25 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION:
KENNEL PRESENTATION:
Sasha was on the backside of kennel for cleaning. She was standing by the door and was very wiggly. Patient for leashing and exited without any issues.
LEASH SKILLS:
Pulls moderately
HANDLING :
Sasha was wiggly in the room and social with both of us. She solicited attention from both of us in the room and would lean in when petting her. She allowed all over handling without any issues and was very gentle when interacting with her. She demonstrated knowledge of sit while in the room and took treats very gently as well!
PLAY:
Engages in play
TOYS
Interest but no possession

Summary of owner surrender notes: They described her “very needy and nice with kids and not housebroken.” They said she is high energy, knows commands, and “pulls and tugs” on leash. They noted that her favorite toy is a rope toy and her favorite treat is beef jerky. They said she is “friendly” with strangers and children, and “not friendly” with cats.

Per owner 1/9/25: I just would like to surrender her. I don't have the time, space or money right now for a new born baby & a dog.

PREVIOUS BEHAVIOR NOTES:
9/17/24 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION:
KENNEL PRESENTATION:
Sasha was on the backside of kennel when the handler approached. She wiggled over to the barrier but was scared to cross it and stood there wagging and giving some submissive smiles. He needed lots of motivation to cross the barrier and came up to the handler with a lowered body, avoiding eye contact, and giving low wags. Allowed for easy leashing and exited slowly.
LEASH SKILLS:
Pull minimally, housebroken
HANDLING:
Sasha was friendly in the yard and warmed up a lot outside! She explored with soft eyes and a waggy tail and would come over to us and allow all handling. She was not sensitive to any handling and was tolerant for full body pets. She warmed up a lot outside and was very sweet and affectionate! No interest in treats
PLAY:
Playful
TOYS:
Interest but no possession

Summary of owner surrender notes from 9/2024: Sasha was with her previous family for almost three years before they surrendered her because they “didn’t have the time or the space she needs.” They described her as a dog who “Loves people, kids. Has a lot of energy. Loves to run and play.” She was mostly house-trained, working on crate training, and knew some commands. They described her as “high energy, very active.” When asked about behavior concerns, they said, “Not really, just needs lots of love and attention.” She would sometimes pull on the leash and loved toys that made noise. They noted that towards strangers she was “Friendly, except for mail person,” great with children, and “very good” with male dogs, but “not so good” with female dogs. Once again, they emphasized how much she “loves children and people” and stated her ideal home would be “Preferably a place with a big yard where she can run.”

MEDICAL:
On 2/6/25, Sasha was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection (URI) or "doggy cold" and started on medication. She tested negative for pneumovirus and is scheduled to complete her medication on 2/19.

During her intake exam on 1/29/25, Sasha appeared to be in good health overall, but her eyes were a little red, possibly due to excitement. She was bright, alert, responsive, and very wiggly.

During her previous intake exam on 9/16/24, Sasha appeared in good health besides her skin being slightly red and irritated.

Due to being significantly overcapacity with animals and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted. If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately.
