The chicks are growing fast and beginning to feather nicely. We have 27 still alive and well. While losing chicks is not a good feeling, it is to be expected within the first week.

30 pheasant chicks arrived today. Pheasant chicks need 30% protein game bird feed, and never give them wood chips for bedding. In a few weeks they will transition from the brooder to their pens. However, once the birds begin to mature, it is important to only have one rooster per pen. The roosters will fight till the death.

Byrd’s Birds is a new business which is beginning to raise Ring-necked Pheasants with more species of birds to come in the future. We began construction on two pens today. We will update everyone with pictures and stories.
