Andi is ready to find her forever home!
This is going to be a long post, I'm laying it all out, the good and bad, because I want to be 100% transparent, in order to find her the perfect FOREVER home. Please read the ENTIRE post before inquiring about her.
Andi is a 3yr old German Shepherd mix that was trapped as a stray in Sept 2020.
Andi is house broken, crate trained, will go potty on command(most of the time), has had basic training, and would excel in any type of training or scent/detection work.
She absolutely LOVES cats, especially kittens, is good with other dogs with slow and proper introductions and supervision. She will try to be dominant if she thinks she can get away with it, but has not shown any dog aggression in the year she has been with me.
She is leery of strangers, especially men, but has gotten better, and warms up fairly quickly. She will, however, let you know anytime anyone is around your house, or at the door. She has never bitten anyone since being trapped and in my home, but she has the potential to, if pushed or put in the wrong situation. She will guard you with her life. She has not been around small children since being with me, and I believe she would be ok, but she is a lot of dog, and would be constantly knocking them over. I believe she would do fine with older, dog savvy kids though. I can kid test her if needed.
She is a spazz in the car, so I crate her, or she would need a doggie seat belt, if crating isn't an option.
She does well at the vet, once she is given a chance to warm up, but I always muzzle her starting out, to be cautious.
She does need to be crated when no one is home, or when she is not being supervised. She is too smart for her own good, and will get into everything. She also has some anxiety, and crating is the safest option for her. She will sleep in bed with you, and loves to be the little spoon, but if the door is open, she will be wandering the house, finding things to get into.
She LOVES to play ball, and be outside. She loves water, and her kiddy pool, she will even try to get in the shower with you. She has a ton of energy, and will need exercise and to stay active. She has a phenomenal recall, I have even called her off of rabbits, and she was at my feet in seconds. She still needs some work on polishing up her training, but she learns quickly, is food motivated, and loves to please.
She loves baths, and is great for her nails, clipping and dremeling.
Andi is spayed, and was fully vaccinated when she was trapped. She is microchipped, heartworm negative, and on monthly prevention. But, unfortunately, she was diagnosed with Pemphigus, which is an autoimmune disease that causes hair loss and skin lesions. We have her on a management dose of medication, and she has been doing very well on it. But, she will never be able to be vaccinated again because of it.
She is on CBD oil for her anxiety, and a few supplements along with her medication for the autoimmune disease.
Andi is an absolutely phenomenal dog, and deserves the BEST home. She could go on to do amazing things, and I want nothing more for her.
There will be an application, home visit, and vet check and adoption fee required for Andi. I would like to keep her within 2hrs of Lima, but will make exceptions for the right home.
You MUST have German shepherd experience!
If you've made it through the entire post, and can see past her flaws, to give this amazing girl a chance, please email [email protected] for an application.
