Helping Equines Regain Dignity
HERD - A new 501C3 non-profit equine rescue group in the Foothills that has assisted in saving over forty horses from dire conditions and in many cases slaughter. Primarily using their own funds members have rescued, vetted, fed, trained, and given these horses a second chance at life. We wish to thank those who have donated generously, providing resources, time and

funds to help us rescue and care for the horses in HERD. It is your belief in our work and our shared love of horses that makes this effort so rewarding for us all.

We are so excited that Beau is adopted and is joining HERD horse Gemma in a great forever home in NC this fall. This big gelding is age four and has lots of potential for dressage and just being a big pal too. Thank you Shingle Hollow Farm.

Celeste Chaput was here today working with HERD horses Sonnet and Avenue but she also played with rescues Tut and Giza the new kittens we saved on clear the shelter day. Are they not adorable and growing like weeds too.

Awaiting better photos but the Mustang and pony, we are calling Kit Carson and Tamara have made it to NC and are in quarantine with Bessie Bell Farm Transport. Here is proof they are now with us to start a new life. A lot thinner than the video that was taken of them over a week ago but we will turn this around.

Joe Black, saved by HERD in June 2019, was trained by Alene Harfmann for obstacles and trail riding and then adopted four years ago by HERD volunteer and supporter Bill McClelland. Bill unfortunately has to stop riding because of his back and he wants to find Joe Black a safe, forever great home in the Carolinas.

Joe is age 17 and still riding soundly barefoot out on the trails. He does not enjoy ring work so not a lesson horse candidate. He is not a fan of the bugs and heat in Florida so hence Bill wants him to go back north. He prefers a hackamore to a bit and loves heading out into the woods, crossing deep creeks and riding with a group or can go solo out to ride.

Joe will have a current Coggins, up-to-date on vaccines and I have lots of additional photos and video of him doing obstacle challenges. I would not put a beginner on him only because Joe is seasoned and does have a mind of his own but a rider who wants to trail ride, or someone looking for a great pasture pal gelding, Joe is perfect with mares and geldings.
If interested, PM me. The new home would need to cover the transport from central Florida to NC or SC.
Here is Joe with a youngster we have. He is 15.1 hands and a quarter horse cross.

My prayers are out for all the farms in GA, SC low country! We were fortunate but I think Debby is going to be a downer further north. Rain or shine the HERD has to be fed. They were a little miffed that we fed between the rain bands.

In May 2021, HERD helped Beth Fink Wade save a thin but beautiful young filly from a kill pen in TX. Beth named her Willow and went to work restoring her to good health and eventually getting her trained under saddle. Wow, look at Willow these days! We love it when members keep in touch and share their HERD horses.
