Hey friends!

It’s been a little quiet around here because I snuck away for a much-needed vacation. But now I’m back to the real world, and of course, our herd is keeping me busy!

As always, we’re in need of hay to keep all four of these sweet souls fed. That comes out to about $400 each month. On top of that, Vino has a few health issues we need to get taken care of before he can be adopted, and his upcoming vet bill is expected to be around $600.

If you’d like to help with hay or contribute toward Vino’s care, we would be so grateful. Every little bit makes a difference.

Thank you, as always, for your support—it means the world to us and to the animals.

We’ve got some dietary changes happening here at SAERšŸ“šŸ’š

After Friday’s vet visit, we learned that both Luna and Skye’s tummy troubles (intermittent diarrhea) might be diet-related. At first, we thought Skye’s digestive upset was just from stress—losing her owner and moving to a new place after 20 years—but it never really went away. Then Luna started showing the same signs, which told us it was more than just stress.

Our vet recommended transitioning them to a pellet-based diet to help their digestive systems settle down. Since Pete is part of their little herd, he’s also joining the plan—so now all three are getting pellets three times a day to make sure their nutritional needs are met.

We’re also experimenting with chaff hay for a forage option, to see if that gives their systems a little extra support. It’s all about finding what works best for each of them so they can feel their best.

Change can be a process, but we’re hopeful this adjustment will bring them some much-needed relief.

Luna Update šŸŒ™

I wanted to take a minute to share some updates from the vet visit yesterday. They were able to get a better look in her mouth and aged her at 25+ years. For a pony, that’s still considered middle-aged — with the right care, they can often live well into their 40s.

We did discover a fairly large melanoma in her lip. At this point, it’s not bothering her or affecting her eating, so we’re choosing to monitor it rather than remove it right now.

On the training side, Luna is really showing me how far patience and trust can go. Yesterday on the lead line, every movement she made was backwards. Instead of asking for more, I just stood with her, held the line, and shared space in her comfort zone.

This morning, I tried again. When I picked up the lead rope, she didn’t move away — a huge step for her! She walked eight steps forward with me. After the sixth step, I saw she was reaching her limit, so I asked for just one more. She gave me two big steps, let out a deep breath, and then walked off calmly for her breakfast.

We’re making big strides and I couldn’t be more excited to see where this journey takes us now that Luna is starting to let me in.

This is why I never rush the process. Did it take longer than I would’ve liked? Absolutely! BUT it’s not about me. It’s about the relationship and trust that is being built ā¤ļøā€šŸ©¹

Today was a very eventful day here. šŸ“šŸ’›

Both Luna and Nova were sedated and had their feet done. Nova handled her sedation much better this time, which was a relief. We do have a little concern with one of her front feet, but we’ll be keeping an eye on it and do everything we can to keep her comfortable.

Luna was also sedated for her visit. The vet was able to clean up her wound and get a better look at was going on with it. There’s still some bone exposed, so we’re hoping her tissue will continue to grow and cover it. Unfortunately, after her front feet were done, she broke through sedation. She is absolutely terrified of people, so it took some time and patience to get her calm again. Once she settled, I was able to grab her lead rope, hand it off to the farrier, put her fly mask on, and even give her some loves for about five minutes.

For a horse who fears people so deeply, those five minutes meant the world. This is going to be a long road for her, but we’re committed to walking it with her.

A huge thank you to Susannah Thames for her time and patience with everyone today, and to Dr. Lindsey and her crew at Jackpot Veterinary Centerfor making sure every horse was cared for. ā¤ļø

Farrier and vet were covered by everyone’s donations! Thank you so much for your continued support ā¤ļøā€šŸ©¹

We Need Your Help

Our hay account is depleted, hay prices are climbing, and we have upcoming vet bills for Luna.

As much as we hate to ask, we’re in a tight spot and need support to make sure the horses have what they need.

Every dollar goes directly toward hay, grain, supplements and veterinary care. Even the smallest donation makes a huge difference in keeping our herd healthy and cared for. šŸ“šŸ’›

Nova’s First Summer with meā˜€ļøšŸ“

The flies love her… but she’s finally letting me help 🫠

This standoffish girl now stands like a pro for fly spray, wears her fly sheet with no fuss, and even enjoys a good hose down in the heat.

So proud of how far this girl has come. Now if she’d just let me pick up her feet

Rescue is ugly.

To the owners surrendering your horses…

Don’t get mad when the truth gets put in your face.

You let your horse get to this point.
You ignored the signs, the care, the responsibility. The second someone steps in and actually says it like it is, suddenly they’re the problem?

No.
You don’t get to neglect your animal, dump them on someone else, and then play the victim when the reality is uncomfortable. If you’re so desperate to ā€œhelpā€ now, maybe you should’ve helped your horse before they were skin and bones, rotting hooves, and no future.

This isn’t about your pride.
This is about the horse you failed.

Don’t project your guilt onto me. I’m not your scapegoat. I’m the one cleaning up the mess you made.

I will never sugar coat a horses situation to protect the owner that let them get this way.

Do better

We are still searching for sponsors for Luna, Nova, and our Legacy horses, Sky and Pete.

These horses rely on this rescue to survive, but this rescue relies on YOU.

Sponsorship helps cover the essentials:
🌾 Feed & Pellets: $600 monthly
šŸ’Š Supplements: $50-$75 monthly
🩺 Vet care: as needed
🐓 Farrier care: $580 bi monthly

These aren’t extras, they’re basic needs. And truthfully, I’m at the point where I can’t continue to carry it all by myself anymore.

If you’ve been watching their stories, if you’ve felt moved by their journey, if you’ve ever asked how to help, this is how.

šŸ‘‰ Sponsor a horse. Help us keep going.
Please message me if you’re able to help, even in part. We are so grateful for every ounce of support.

šŸŒ™ Luna – 4 Month Progress Update šŸŒ™

It’s hard to believe it’s already been four months with Luna. This beautiful, sensitive soul is now officially part of her own little herd family with Sky and Pete. Watching her find comfort and connection within them has been one of the most rewarding parts of her journey so far.

She still doesn’t let me touch her—and that’s okay. This process isn’t about timelines, it’s about trust. We’re continuing to move at her pace, building confidence one quiet moment at a time. Her progress might be slow to some, but every step forward is a big victory in her world.
