The Civano family is happy to announce the addition of a new groomer! Mrs. Kelly is an experienced canine and feline groomer of over ten years! Animal health and welfare are her priorities, using all natural products and chemical-free colors for that extra effect. Whether she is starting slow with the young puppies and kittens to get them used to grooming services or prioritizing geriatric patients allowing them to have breaks as needed for comfort, Kelly works around the needs of that individual patient. A specific skill of hers is grooming those canines and felines that are not allowed at other grooming salons due to behavior. Kelly has the confidence to soothe your scared animal that normally struggles to have grooming performed. She will work around their needs to get any services completed effectively and efficiently. A few of the services Kelly offers are bathing, de-shedding, full or touch up grooms, nail trimming / grinding, hair dying, nail polish, teeth brushing, etc.

Civano Animal Hospital and Emergency Center would like to introduce you to yet another one of our newest associates!!!!

Dr. Gerardo R. Vela, was born and raised in Laredo, Texas on the South Texas/Mexico border along the Rio Grande. Growing up working on ranches with dogs, cattle, and horses among other species, he developed a deep love and appreciation for animals and nature. After earning his Bachelor's degree in Animal Science from Texas A&M University – Kingsville in 2015, he returned to Laredo to work on a cattle ranch. In the fall of 2016 he moved to Houston, Texas and began a career with the Texas Department of Agriculture, most of which was spent as the Livestock Export Facility Operator at George Bush Intercontinental/Houston Airport (IAH). While working there he partnered with USDA APHIS veterinarians to inspect and facilitate the international shipment of livestock out of Texas. In addition to working full time, he pursued online graduate coursework through a Masters of Science in Medical Microbiology and Biochemistry program by the University of Florida. In the summer of 2020, Dr. Vela moved to Tucson, Arizona following his acceptance into the inaugural class at the University of Arizona College of Veterinary Medicine. While his passion for veterinary medicine began with mixed animal medicine, he has found through his education that he truly enjoys helping animals that need immediate assistance, leading him to pursue small and large animal emergency medicine. Upon graduation, Dr. Vela and his wife made the decision to remain in Tucson and build roots for the next chapter in their lives. We are proud to announce that Dr. Gerry accepted a position to join the Civano Animal Hospital and Emergency Center family! Supporting him along his academic journey and career has been his incredible wife and their German/Australian Shepherd mix named Duchess. In their free time Dr. Vela, his wife, and Duchess can be found hiking on the various trails in town or researching their next travel getaway.

We are exited to announce that Civano will be expanding its equine services!!!
Welcome Civano's new equine doc, Dr. Ciara Aguilar-Beaucage!!!
Dr. Ciara was raised in Tucson and attended the University of Arizona where she completed her undergraduate degree in veterinary science in 2018 and then her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2023... Bear down!
Dr. Ciara loves all animals, however large animals are her passion as she grew up around horses. When she was younger, Dr. Ciara participated in many junior rodeo events. Even today, she enjoys traveling around to local team roping jackpots and World Series team roping events. Before going to veterinary school, she worked as a veterinary technician here in Tucson for a mobile equine practice. Dr Ciara is very excited to bring her skills, passion and knowledge to Civano Animal Hospital. She looks forward to providing excellent care not only to the horses in our community, but also to the small animals in southern Arizona!
Dr. Ciara has 3 horses, Charlie, Badger and Mamba, a cat and a sulcata tortoise.
We are so grateful to have you Ciara, welcome to the Civano family!

Did you know… that animal control agencies across the United States each year see an increase of nearly 50% in lost pet cases on the 4th and 5th of July alone?
Sadly only about 14% of those animals are returned home.

It’s that time of year again! 🐍🐍🐍
Civano Animal Hospital would like to remind local residents to be aware of their surroundings and be on alert while outdoors with their pets.
Should your animal be bitten or even if you are unsure if they have been bitten… remain calm so your pet will remain calm and call us here at Civano, or call your closest animal emergency center that is equipped to handle envenomation.
Do not apply cold packs and do not attempt to use a tourniquet. Do not attempt to kill or catch the snake.
Symptoms to be aware of are swelling, puncture wounds and pain around the affected area.
Be safe and know we are here for you 24/7 should you need us!

George the Labrador stopped by Civano recently to visit Nichole our groomer. Evidently... there was some confusion about bath time for George.😜 Needless to say it looks like he had a great time!!!
