He came into the shelter on May 24th as a euthanasia request for hind leg paralysis. Not wanting to give up on such a young life, Pima Animal Care Center sought out volunteers to foster Lt. Dan so that he could be given time to see the shelter veterinarian. After x-rays and a general exam, it was determined he needs the care of a veterinarian who specializes in spinal injuries. e Center veterinarian could only determine that he has a gap between two vertebrae, and while thankfully he has no pain associated with it, it looks to be an early trauma injury that could be explained by someone pulling his tail too hard. Dan has such a happy attitude and doesn't mind scooting from one side of the house to the other in a flash! Dan would love to see a specialist to get a concrete diagnosis about the severity of his condition. If anything, seeing this specialist could give Dan the green light to get fitted for a customized wheelchair that would allow his puppy energy to be better expressed. While he does enjoy scooting across the house as fast as Flash Gordon, a wheelchair would give him opportunities and access to a whole new world of smells and adventures. A wheelchair is not an option until he sees a specialist and is cleared for one.
