Today's horsemanship/human-manship lesson.....
He was speaking to a woman regarding the timing of the aids with her horse, and had her dismount to better demonstrate. He was directing her foot while she was walking a circle around him. He started out with perfect timing, asking her leg to walk a smaller circle just as her foot was about to leave the ground. It was lovely to watch, perfect harmony in a simple dance.
But then he did it badly. He asked while the leg was already in motion, and about pulled her off her feet. Then he asked after the foot had already landed; it was too late at that point and you could just see her body bracing up.....
Then he went back to perfect timing.....but.....she hesitantly followed his feel, and with only about 10% of the try as she originally had....
"You've pulled him off balance so many times that he doesn't trust you. And when you do start to get it right, he's still going to be hesitant for a while because you've lied to him so many times" (paraphrasing, I wasn't writing fast enough!)
Today was good, really good.
