Animal Nutritionist with a career researching efficiency of systematic pathways of digestion, creating a sustainable healthy microbiome in animals. For years I complained I had a hard time understanding the objectives and benefits of commercial horse feeds. Product lines seem the same, but in a different bag. Feed tags are not easy to understand what nutrients are being provided in relation to wha
t nutrients are required by the horse, and how to measure the cost of those nutrients. In 2017 he helped me and took time to dive into the Nutrient Requirements for Horses* and make me a calculating spreadsheet defining what nutrients horses need to meet their requirements and plug in the cost of various nutrients in formulation. Working from that, I started out mixing feed in our garage! I wanted a feed program that was easy (EZ) to understand and use. I wanted low starch, high energy, no corn, no soy, high fat, no added oils (use natural oil seeds), high fiber and no unnecessary fillers. Main ingredients are steam treated beat pulp, course ground whole flax seed, parboiled rice bran, and alfalfa. When the formula was to the point it could be locked, we approached Shawnee Milling in OK, to manufacture the feed. Once I got our horses on it, some of our dear friends started using it. Then their friends did too! Shawnee Milling has had good success with it in OK and has now added it to their stores. Right now for Texas sales, I sell at our place south of Abilene, but will be looking for TX distributors soon. Our website should be up soon.
