Don’t get us wrong we love the doodle mutts we have rescued ( that’s exactly what they are, MUTTS, mixed breeds, Heinz’s 57) but we are so Incredibly tired of the Doodle craze. It’s insane to us seeing people purchasing these dogs when rescues are full off them.

This is a big no-no which has lots of negative consequences such as startling your dog (do you like for someone to open the door in your face and walk into your personal space); endangering staff (common way that we get bitten); endangering your dog (what if there is an aggressive dog outside of the door and your dog gets out) and making for an awkward situation with the vet (they want to walk in and say Hi and now they have to tell you to pick up your leash). Hold the leash and keep your dog close to you until the vet comes in the room and tells you that it is OK for you to drop your leash.

When your pet gets into something it shouldn’t, things can get pretty scary. Sometimes we are panicked, and the first step is to Google for at-home remedies; however, some can be toxic to our pets. It is always recommended to contact a veterinary professional before giving or applying anything we are unsure about. Below are home remedy myths that aren’t necessarily good for our pets

Can your dog say No? Do you listen?

This dog is uncomfortable and if there is no relief, this dog may bite the child...in the face.

Please intervene if your dog looks uncomfortable.

And if you aren't sure how to read your dog, I have tons of resources that can help, including The Pooch Parenting Society for parents with dogs.

❤️🐈‍⬛ If you’re like me and are owned by a creaky, pampered old cat (case in point: yesterday she had gently warmed up spaghetti 🍝 for a snack), you may know that some signs of osteoarthritis in cats *can* be pretty obvious - but they're not always. Observe your cat carefully and consult your veterinarian to be sure.

You can see here, cats walk on their toes. When a cat is declawed it’s an amputation to the first joint. Basically the toes are amputated. This changes the way a cat walks and over time causes arthritis to multiple areas of the cats body. Declawed cats often avoid the cat box because of pain in the feet and arthritis in the body….. Please do not declaw your cat 🐾

Anthropomorphism is defined as the attribution of human characteristics to an animal or object. We commonly interpret animal’s feelings based on what we see as human body language and not cat or dog body language. It’s natural for us to do this because we want to relate to our pets and this can help to create bonds to animals but can also be harmful. ⁣

For example, if a cat is going outside of the litterbox or a dog has an urinary accident, if the caregiver thinks their cat or dog is doing this out of spite, they are more likely to approach this issue negatively which will escalate the issue and damage the bond to their pet. They are also less likely to reach out to their veterinarian or a credential behavior professional. ⁣

Remember, cats and dogs do not act out of spite. This will help caregivers approach these behaviors empathetically and get the pet the help they need to resolve the issue. ⁣

Often when animals are exhibiting unwanted behaviors like destructive behaviors or housesoiling, they are telling us that something is not right and as their caregivers, we need to listen. This can be due to medical issues, stressors in their environment, them not feeling safe, not enough resources, and more.⁣

It's hot hot hot in NWI this week 🥵
The temperature inside your vehicle can rise almost 20º F in just 10 minutes. Please do not leave your pet in the car, even for a quick trip, as they will overheat quickly and be at risk for heatstroke.

Our Trainer

Hello! I have been a Certified Veterinary Technician since 1996, and have been working in the world of Veterinary Medicine for over 30 years now. Due to some behavioral issues with my cat, Lazarus, I became very interested in animal behavior. Thanks to Laz, I have been able to help many animals and have found a new passion to keep me going on.

I have taken many hours of continuing education in behavior and training. I became Low Stress Handling Certified Silver in 2014 and Fear Free Certified Level one in 2018.

I have been teaching puppy training classes for 7 years now and I love helping animals and their people have the best relationship possible. I look forward to continue helping people & their pets.
