A friendly reminder to NOT WRAP CHOCOLATE and place under the Christmas tree. Dogs have a VERY keen sense of smell, and they WILL find it and eat it with the wrappings too. Chocolate contains theobromine and caffeine which is toxic to dogs.
"Consequently, Theobromine accumulates into the body of a dog and becomes toxic. Just like caffeine, Theobromine is heart-stimulant and diuretic, which is clearly observable in the symptoms of chocolate poisoning. For many dogs, the most common clinical signs are vomiting, diarrhea, increased thirst, panting or restlessness, excessive urination, and racing heart rate. In severe cases, symptoms can include cardiac arrhythmias, muscle tremors, and seizures. Complications such as aspiration pneumonia from vomiting or prolonged clinical signs can make the prognosis for chocolate poisoning worse. Clinical signs of chocolate poisoning can take several hours to develop, and signs can last for several days," according to the Pet Poison Helpline. The darker the chocolate the worse it is for our fur babies. Please wrap your chocolate if that is what you want to do but keep it up in a drawer, on the counter pushed back, anywhere that your baby can't reach it.
May you all have a Merry Christmas without any chocolate poisoning!

Tonight we celebrated 40 years of hard work and compassion with Dr Latshaw. Her last day was today. It's bittersweet knowing that she will no longer be sharing her passion for veterinary medicine with us and our clients but her retirement is well deserved. May the road lead her into a blissful, not early rising, happy retirement. We shall miss her.

As our pets age, their needs change to ensure they're as healthy and happy as possible. Here are some reasons why we need to give our senior pets extra love, attention and veterinary care:

Early Detection of Issues: Regular veterinary check-ups help identify and manage age-related conditions early, improving your petโ€™s quality of life. Routine health screenings can monitor vital functions and catch any changes in health before they become serious.

Tailored Nutrition: Senior pets may have specific dietary needs or health conditions that require a new approach to nutrition.

Comfort and Mobility: Adjustments to their living environment and routine can help manage arthritis and mobility issues.

Dr Latshaw Retires
It is with heart-felt gratitude and sadness that we announce that Dr Lisa Latshaw will be retiring as of December 6,2024. Dr Latshaw has been practicing Veterinary medicine for 39 years and joined Magic Valley Veterinary Hospital in September of 2006.
A career in Veterinary medicine requires long hours, hard work, and a lot of compassion in which Dr Latshaw has excelled at. Dr Latshaw has spent many hours in the middle of the night driving to the hospital to make sure her patients are doing ok. Her commitment and doing the best quality care that she can provide has always been at her fore front. We shall miss her but want to wish her the very best and a long joyous retirement.
To honor and celebrate Dr Latshawโ€™s retirement we will be closing early on December 6,2024 at 3pm. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. If you want to send her well wishes you will need to do so before December 6,2024.
