One year without my best friend. A year that felt like a decade. I’ve learned so much in this past year: about pain and grief, and learning to accept what I can’t control. I’ve learned how unfair life can be; how no proper laws exist for dogs and how animals are so unlawfully treated. But I also learned how kind strangers can be; how loving animals unites people. I’ve seen many pets saved by their owners and how lucky we are to have our fur friends. I am reminded of how loved I am. I still can’t believe how many of you tried to help bring Abbey home. I’ll forever be blown away. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. From the bottom of my heart I am so grateful for each and every person who helped. Slowly but surly has been coming together. By what feels like pure fate, a woman named Abegail is the first employee. We are working to compile information in one database, in hopes it will make it easier for people who lost their pets, find them. Our long-term goal is to change the laws to protect animals, making it impossible to sell or “rehome” animals without proper licenses and records (currently you don’t need proof of ownership to sell or “rehome” a pet). We will work to create mandates for vets to check new pets’ microchips (right now vets aren’t legally obligated to scan for microchips). It’s been a slow process, because I get sad and lose focus, but luckily I now have the lovely team over at Wagenmaker & Oberly Law spearheading the cause. If this is something you are also passionate about, please consider donating even $5 to Lost Pet Helper.

Sweet Abbey is in doggy heaven. She was found in the lake that our home is on yesterday. I got Abbey after struggling with severe depression and anxiety issues and this sweet gurl truly saved my life. I’m so unbelievably grateful to have gotten every second of love this gurl constantly gave me and would strongly suggest anyone with similar mental health issues to consider getting a service animal. This journey has made me so much closer to my friends and family, who have spent the last 75 days smothering me with love and continuing to search. I have so many new friends for life who have taught me so much about trusting and letting in love. I could never begin to thank everyone who has been supporting me through this journey and am truly thankful for each of you. Every share, comment and especially kind message meant so much to me. Abbey’s life will forever be one of love and light and I will always be nothing but grateful for the time I was lucky enough to spend with my best friend. God is good, even when life is hard 🙏🏻🤍🙏🏻🤍🙏🏻

I haven't written one of these in a while because every time it makes me incredibly sad. It is hard to believe that 74 days have passed and my sweet Abbey is still missing. I am so unbelievably grateful for everyone still helping search, still sharing, and still praying/sending good vibes. While this continues to be an eye opening journey as to how few laws are in place to protect dogs, it also continues to show me just how much love exists in the world. I'm not the best at opening up and obviously have never been the best at responsiveness when I get sad, I am still just so humbled by the kindness that so many of you have shown me and my sweet Abbey. And so soooo blown away by the amount of people volunteering to help with . We are in the process of having Lost Pet Helper be approved as a legal non-for-profit and have great things to come once we do. I continue to pray hard and am trusting in God's plan for all of this. Hoping for a miracle and that if someone has her they have a change of heart. Please always call or text me with updates as I continue to be behind on messages. My cell is 847-494-8585 🙏🏻🤍🙏🏻🤍🙏🏻

I still can’t believe sweet Abbey has been gone for 60 days. Thank you all so much for the continued love and support. If you are up for taking on compiling an entire county worth of contact info for all the vets, shelters, rescues, groomers, daycares, humane society and police stations, please email [email protected]. I realize this a a lot to ask and there is no timeline on how quickly it needs to be completed. So many pets get separated from their owners and we are hoping to create a system that makes it’s free and easier to help locate lost pets. Compiling all the information to create a quick and easy database for owners to reach out themselves is step one. For me, knowing where to look has been one of the biggest struggles in this system. Many shelters hold onto pets without an online database to post about them... some for only three days before rehoming the family pets. Together we can work to create a system that helps protects lost pets 🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍

Please email [email protected] if you’d like to volunteer to compile all the vet, shelter, rescue, humane society, groomer, day care and police contact information for one of the 3,006 counties in the United States. This information if going to be made free and easily accessible to help people locate their lost pets. 🙏🏻🤍🙏🏻🤍🙏🏻

Day 54 without my sweet Abbey and to say this has been an eye opening experience would be an understatement. While many, many things need to change to protect pets, the first step I am taking is to compile a list of all the vets, shelters, rescues, humane societies, groomers, days cares and police departments in all of the 3,006 counties in the United States. Please email [email protected] if you would like to volunteer to compile the information for a county

Thank you so much to everyone still looking for my baby. If you are looking for ways to help, please continue to search parks like Gander Mountain or Turner lake that are close to Twin Lakes, WI. We have also heard that some dogs get kept at “overflow shelters.” If you know of any overflow shelters, please help reach out to make sure they know Abbey is missing. Still praying hard for my girl and slowly working to create one system where all animals can be reported lost or found. 🤍🙏🏻🤍🙏🏻🤍

Day 43 of Abbey being missing. Abbey was last seen in our backyard in Twin Lakes, WI on 12/27/20 at 7:45PM and by 8PM was nowhere to be found. We continue to work with amazing rescue teams like Billy’s Posse, and are still searching Abbey’s favorite parks that she could have run to. I’m incredibly thankful for everyone offering their time to help search: Gander Mountain, New Munster Wildlife, and Turner Lake & Glacial Park. We continue to actively look into the many, many places/sites where dogs are sold. This experience continues to be so eye opening in many ways. The first, of course, being the lack of laws to protect dogs. Secondly, how easily a dog can be sold and the fact that many microchips don’t get checked or scanned. And lastly, I’m surprised there isn’t an advanced resource/platform that could house all lost or stolen dogs (connected to all vets and shelters, accessible to the public). Through this experience we are slowly, but surely, attempting to work on all of these issues and hope to come up with ideas to help protect pets in the future. But the most eye opening part of all of this continues to be the influx of love and support I have received from everyone. I had no idea so many people could be so kind and care so much about helping get Abbey home. I will never be able to properly thank everyone but please know that every single bit of kindness has meant so much to me. I know that God has a plan for everything and am trusting that this journey will have a happy ending. We are still offering a $1,500 reward, no questions asked. Or if you have her, you can always leave her in a fenced-in dog park and I’m sure someone will find and help her. Praying hard and sending nothing but love to my sweet girl 🙏🏻🤍🙏🏻🤍🙏🏻

Officially one month without my best friend. Abbey was last seen in our backyard in Twin Lakes, WI on 12/27/20 at 7:45PM. Someone suggested that if Abbey was stolen or lost in the woods, she may not be her happiest self and to try to post pictures where she looks scared or sad. So here are some photos of Abbey (a hufflepuff) questioning her own existence. I doubt no matter where Abbey is she is doing anything but making the most of the situation and having a good time, but it’s worth a shot and these photos gave me a good laugh. Every morning I’ve been trying to give a quick update and every morning I struggle to be able to express how truly appreciative I am for everyone’s continued love, support, kindness, searching, prayers and so soooo much more. I had no idea how many truly kind souls existed that would dedicate so much of their time to help someone they’ve never met. I am just so lucky and thankful to have this amazing community full of love. Which makes sense, since animals are mostly just unconditional love. No matter what, it has been an eye opening experience to say the least. I still have nothing but faith in our amazing community to find Abbey (and the other missing berner Rufus) and that God has a plan for all of this. We are still offering a $1,500 reward, no questions asked. Still praying so hard on my end and wishing I could give every single one of you the biggest hug and tell you each how thankful I am for your help 🙏🏻🤍
