Last November, a compassionate contractor in Akron spotted a starving, shivering dog chained to a tree with only a deteriorating wire crate for shelter.

This poor pup, later named Asgard, had no food, water, or warm place to rest. Recognizing the urgency, the contractor reached out to our Humane Agents, who quickly stepped in.

Upon investigation, it was discovered that Asgard had been abandoned without care for a month. Severely malnourished and neglected, he was surrendered to HSSC, where our team provided the love and medical care he desperately needed.

Today, Asgard is thriving in a safe, loving home with a caring family. 💙

If you suspect animal abuse or neglect, call our cruelty hotline at 330-405-0620, or fill out the form at summithumane.org/humane-investigation

We were thrilled to welcome the Kent State Softball team as volunteers to help us prepare for our big move! Their hard work made a tremendous difference, and between the players and coach, they dedicated a total of 40 hours to supporting our mission.

After a productive day of prepping, the team got to meet some of the adorable animals they were helping, and let’s just say… a few kittens may have found their new biggest fans!

Thank you for stepping up and lending a hand (and for all the smiles and snuggles you shared)! We’re grateful for your support! 💛💙

Say hello to Clifton! He is a 3 year old Pit Bull mix who weighs 60 pounds. Clifton is a sensitive pup with new people, but once he knows you he is an energetic and goofy boy who loves attention.

He is still a young dog so he has plenty of energy and loves going outside to play or going for a long walk. Once you're in his inner circle, he lets his personality show and loves to show you how fun loving he is!

He can be reactive with new dogs, so he would need a very slow introduction to see if he could live with another dog, but he may not mind being the only dog in his forever home. Since he is a sensitive pup, if there are children in his forever home they need to be ages 16 and older.

If Clifton looks like the perfect pup to add to your family, give us a call at 330-487-0333 ext 226 to learn more about him!

If you're ready to meet him, drop in anytime during our adoption hours: 11 am – 6 pm weekdays or 11 am – 5 pm weekends.

We're located at 7996 Darrow Rd, Twinsburg, OH 44087

Say hi to Ferb! 👋

He is a 1-year-old Pit Bull mix who weighs about 45 pounds. Ferb is a sweet boy that can be a little sensitive at times, but with a few tasty treats he's adjusts quickly! He is an energetic and playful boy who loves to spend time outside in the sunshine and is always eager to explore.

He loves to give kisses and is a big snuggle bug. He does well with most dogs and could make a great playmate to another dog in his forever home. Since he can be a bit sensitive at first, he shows potential to live with kids ages 10 and older.

If Ferb looks too cute to pass up, give us a call at 330-487-0333 ext 226 to learn more about him and schedule a time to come in and meet!

This might be one of our favorite adoption updates yet! 💙

Peach, our longest resident, was recently adopted by the Peetz family, and she’s thriving in her new home. Here’s what they had to say about her journey since joining their family:

*"I cannot thank all of you wonderful folks enough for the care you gave to Peach while she was with you! She is a pure delight and has settled into our family as if it were just meant to be. She’s a bundle of energy — in the best way! Our mornings usually begin with a run, and then she keeps me company while I clean the horses’ stalls. She’s very fond of zipping in and out of the barn, much to the horses' amusement!

Peach has become fast friends with our older pit bull, Carl. While she may be faster, he can zig and zag better than she can, so he often wins their daily races. But she’s always game to try again! During the day, she spends time in my husband’s office with our other two dogs, keeping him company. They take frequent breaks to check on the horses and get some quick runs in. By the end of the day, she’s more than ready to snuggle up with us in bed (yes, our dogs sleep with us!) for some cuddles. Rinse and repeat for the next day!

Our vet, Dr. Jeremy Hersh of Twinsburg Vet, has seen her and said she looks great. Her skin issues are improving with the help of Apoquel and Benadryl, and I’m happy to report that she’s been weaned off of Tramadol!

Thank you for letting us adopt her. We absolutely adore her!"*

Meet Elvis, today's ! He's handsome, charming, and ready to steal your heart!

Elvis has been with us since September 2023, and just like his namesake, he’s all about charm, personality, and making everyone smile! At 3 years old and 55 lbs, this mixed breed heartthrob is a social butterfly who loves meeting new people and making friends wherever he goes. His enthusiasm is contagious, and he’s sure to keep you laughing and smiling every single day.

Elvis is an exuberant boy, full of energy and love, and he goes into every meet and greet with high hopes, always wondering if this will finally be the moment he meets his forever family. He’s so excited to find his people and show them just how amazing life can be with him by their side.

He shows potential to live with another dog, as long as it’s a good match. And if there are kids in his forever home, Elvis would do well with children aged 10 and up, thanks to his social and playful nature.

If you’re looking for a fun, charming, and loving companion who will bring joy to your life every day, Elvis is your guy! Could you be the family he’s been waiting for?

Call 330-487-0333 ext 226 to meet Elvis and let him steal your heart.

Meet Primrose - your new best friend in need of a foster home!

Primrose is a 4-year-old Bull Terrier mix, weighing in at 62 lbs of pure affection! This sweet girl is ready to leave the shelter behind and snuggle her way into your heart. Once she feels safe and settled, she transforms into a big, lovable lapdog who adores cuddling, playing with toys, and lounging on the couch after a nice walk.

While Primrose can be selective with her doggie friends, she's open to a calm, patient introduction to potential furry siblings. Or, she might prefer to reign as the queen bee, enjoying life as the only dog in her foster home! Primrose would also do best in a home with children aged 10 and up, where she can thrive in a gentle and understanding environment.

After spending over a year in the shelter, Primrose needs a quiet place to decompress and relax—a foster home will give her the break she deserves and prepare her for a successful transition to her forever family. This time to unwind will set her up for success when finding her forever home!

If you're ready for a devoted, adoring companion, open your home to Primrose and give her the second chance she’s been waiting for. Let her show you how rewarding fostering can be!

If interested, fill out a foster form at the shelter or contact Jamie Tavenier, Foster Coordinator at (234) 212-9843 or [email protected] for more information.
