Happy National Dog Day! 🐾
Today, we celebrate our loyal companions who bring endless joy, unconditional love, and a touch of magic to our lives. From wagging tails that greet us after a long day, to the way they sense when we need comfort most, dogs have a unique way of making the world a better place. They teach us about loyalty, living in the moment, and the simple joys of life.
At Tri-County Animal Shelter, we're lucky to witness the incredible bond between dogs and their people every day. Whether it's a gentle giant who loves cuddles or an energetic pup eager to explore, every dog here is waiting to make someone’s life a little brighter.
If you’ve been thinking about adding a furry friend to your family, today is the perfect day to do it. Come meet our adoptable dogs, and let them show you just how amazing life can be with a dog by your side.
Ready to make a difference? Adopt, donate, or volunteer today. Because every dog deserves a loving home, and every home deserves the love of a dog. ❤️

🐾 Medical Monday: The Benefits of Spay & Neuter 🐾
Spay and neuter surgeries do more than just help control the pet population—they also play a vital role in preventing future medical issues for our furry friends. 🩺 According to the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), spaying or neutering your pet can significantly reduce the risk of certain cancers and other serious health problems.
For females: Spaying can reduce the risk of uterine infections and breast tumors, which are malignant or cancerous in about 50% of dogs and 90% of cats.
For males: Neutering prevents testicular cancer and decreases the risk of prostate problems.
By spaying and neutering, we’re not just helping these animals find homes—we’re also giving them healthier, longer lives. 🐶🐱
If you’re in Chowan, Gates, or Perquimans counties and need assistance with getting your animal spayed or neutered, reach out to the Animal Welfare of the Albemarle Region Everyday (AWARE). They may be able to help! https://awarenc.org/

🙏 Heartfelt Thanks to Portsmouth Humane Society and our epic director Dana DeMasters🙏
Today, we are overwhelmed with gratitude and emotion as we look at our empty kennels, knowing our furry friends are safe and have an even better chance of finding their forever homes. This wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible partnership with Portsmouth Humane Society and the unwavering dedication of our shelter director, Dana DeMasters.
Clearing a shelter is never easy, especially when facing the threat of a flooding storm. Too many lives have been lost because animal shelters couldn’t clear out in time. Seeing our kennels empty and knowing our animals are safe fills us with happy tears and humble hearts.
When shelters partner, lives are saved. When humans have hearts, worlds are changed. Thank you for your compassion and commitment to the safety and well-being of our animals.
Together, we make a difference. 🐾❤️

🐾 In the world of animal rescue, the days are long and the tears are many. Each moment filled with frustration, anger, and exhaustion. But amidst the struggle, there’s a spark of hope.
When we look back, we see the love and happiness shining through. The wagging tails and purring cats remind us that every tear shed was worth it. The joy in their eyes is our greatest reward.
