Now through December 25th, adoption fees for cats and dogs are just $25. If you have been thinking about welcoming a new companion into your life, this season offers the perfect moment to open your heart and maybe even your home.

Not as a present under a tree, but as family. Someone to curl up beside the glow of the lights and someone who will still be there when the new year begins and the world quiets down again. Tonight is shaping up to be another cold, frozen night. Make sure your animals are protected and have proper shelter from the wind and icy ground. Remember, hay is for eating and straw is for bedding. A warm, dry space can make all the difference in weather like this. Keep them safe and checked on through the night.

Tri-County Animal Shelter: We Are Not a "County Pound" its 2025 not 1940.

We are a dedicated animal shelter, working tirelessly every single day to provide care, comfort, and a chance at a new beginning for animals in need. Our team pours their hearts into what we do, often under challenging circumstances. When disparaging remarks are made about our shelter, it doesn't just hurt our feelings – it actively harms our ability to care for the animals by undermining public trust and discouraging support.

The Reality of Animal Control in Our Counties: We understand that with the rapid growth in our area, resources are stretched thin. For context:

Gates County has only ONE Animal Control Officer.

Perquimans County has TWO.

Chowan County has TWO.

Our shelter operates with 27 dog kennels to serve these areas, not 27 per county but 27 IN TOTAL for the building. This side of the fence is incredibly challenging, and we face these demands head-on every day.

Be an Advocate, Not a Critic. If you have the time and energy to engage in online discussions, please consider channeling that passion into being an advocate for animals and for your local shelter. Instead of making assumptions or spreading negativity about a place you may have never even visited, we invite you to learn about our work, volunteer, donate, foster, or simply offer a kind word of support. We are all here for the same goal: the well-being of animals.

Holiday food is tempting, but not everything on the table is safe for our four legged family members.

Many Thanksgiving favorites can be harmful to dogs and cats. Ingredients like garlic, onions, cooked bones, rich or greasy foods, chocolate, and sweeteners can cause serious illness. Even small amounts can lead to an emergency visit.

With family and friends coming in and out, this is also the time when pets slip out by accident. Make sure doors and gates stay closed, remind guests not to prop doors open, and keep nervous or excitable pets in a quiet room if needed.

If your pet does get into unsafe food in the holiday chaos, please reach out to a veterinary urgent care or emergency clinic right away. The list below is here to help if you need it.

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving and we would like to clear up a rumor:
Rabbit, Goose, Duck, Chicken, and Bunny are all cats.

Yes... cats. Not birds. Not dinner. Not side dishes. Just cats with identity crises.

All five are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and ready to go home today under our Adopt One Special.

Take home Rabbit who meows. Goose who meows. Duck who meows. Chicken who meows. And Bunny who... you guessed it... meows.

Adopt today so they can spend Thanksgiving exactly how they planned
napping, judging humans, and knocking things off counters.

Introducing the First Annual Dog Food Drive Christmas Minis!

I said I was going to crash, but I have too many thoughts swirling for this one.

Sessions will be 5 minutes each and will take place in my back yard in Elizabeth City, NC. These will be perfect to grab that one Christmas card photo & donate to a great cause.

You are required to bring one bag of dog food (or $25 cash) and that is your session fee. Each session comes with ONE high resolution digital download with the option to purchase more. There will likely be 25-50 images to choose from (I'm an overshooter, what can I say 😵‍💫).

Immediate families only for each time slot please. Pets are not required, but are always encouraged.

This business has allowed me to donate to Tri-County Animal Shelter - Tyner, NC and to locals' vet bills and I would like to continue to give back. This set of minis was inspired by another pet photographer in New York that I follow.
