We got some sad news about Jessie yesterday. We had some testing done to determine how successful a repeat baby attempt would be with her, and it’s just not going to be the best option for her. ❤️

However, this also means that Jessie will continue full work this summer and she can continue to show with the kids. I will be offering Jessie as on on farm lease horse as well. We love our girl and we just want her to be happy and healthy. 🩷🐴

We are currently searching for a new momma horse to add to the crew. 🍼🐴

As the winter winds down we are thinking of Spring 😎🌻

Some events we are hosting this Spring/summer:

Saddle and Sip- Date night/ Girls night on the farm. Learn about horses and do a little riding before enjoying a cowboy style meal and mocktails! This one is for the adults! 🐴🕶️

Horse Camp- We will be hosting two camps this year!
🐴The first camp will be designed for first time campers who have not participated in camp before. May be able to accommodate new riders, but current lesson students are preferred.
🐴🐴 The second camp will be designed for returning campers and students who have been in our lesson program for some time. This camp is intended to extend on the skills learned in last summer’s camp.

And of course…lessons! If you are planning to be in our lesson program this summer please reach out as soon as possible.

Thank you! Lexy (and Eric) 🙂

It is cold, and dark. The light from the barn only reaches so far across the arena. I close my eyes and feel my horse’s movements. Feeling the pull and push of each leg.

I could complain about the cold, the dark, and the ground.

I could be annoyed that my horse is excited, snorting, and prancing. Ignoring some cues, and testing others.

But I will appreciate the deep, wet, sand- because it will help my horse become more fit.

I will be thankful to have a spot, if only a small one, to bond with my horse.

I am thankful that she is sound and excited to work.

I will take her back once we are done, and groom her, put a cooler on, and make sure she is fed and watered properly- even when I am starving, and tired from a full day’s work.

Each year I learn a little more and more to appreciate the “off season”. 💙🩵🤍

Held a family lesson today- with our honorary guest- Gavyn 😊

Eric is learning more of the mechanics of riding, and getting used to Harley. He worked on using his seat as a cue, and how to ask for transitions between gaits. He’s hoping to team rope on her eventually.🐮

Brynlee and Gavin also practiced using their cues, and their bodies to communicate with their horses.❤️

Proud of all of them!

Everybody got warm water with their feed tonight for a warm dinner. Fresh stalls, and second cutting hay. Waiting out the cold and snowy weather. Hoping that we get a few inches of snow to maybe help cushion the ground a bit for them. ❄️❄️❄️

The worst kinds of days to own horses 😅

It’s cold, everything is frozen (including ourselves), but chores need to be done nonetheless.

Ponies got out for some turn out time while we cleaned and re-set stalls. The barn stays warm through the wind and freezing temps. Today we will likely drop several hundred dollars on feed, bedding, and hay to get us through the next week. No matter what- the livestock comes first.

As the temperatures go well below freezing we will monitor the barn several times a day for:

🔴 Horses with signs of colic
🔴 Clean manure/urine free bedding underfoot
🔴 Constant forage- this is the best way for horses to keep warm and to ensure the gut is working properly!
🔴Clean/unfrozen water buckets

We are impatiently waiting for summer days! ☀️

Did you know…many horses all celebrate their “birthday” on January 1st! This well-known date is used mostly within the thoroughbred racing industry, but many other disciplines have adopted the same benchmark.

According to this tradition- our Dakota is now in his 28th year! Dakota has been in our family since he was three years old. I was 8 and Dakota was 3!

*Disclaimer I do NOT suggest this age pairing- my parents must have hoped I would bounce easily! 😂

Throughout the year Dakota did well locally in gaming events, and earned local club titles. He was an exceptional pole horse in his day! When not at shows, Dakota and I would ride miles and miles all over Litchfield. Most of the time we were each other’s best friend. The day before I left for college I promised him someday I would bring him home with me. He has now been through two moves with us, and we are happy to have finally found his last home here in Ulster.

Dakota now helps me give riding lessons, and even went to his first rodeo after 10 years of not showing! Although he is the best boy, he has PLENTY of SASS! Dakota’s favorite activity is to prance around with his herd of mares, and act like the band stallion he has always wished to be. 😂

I wouldn’t be where I am, or the horse woman I am without him. He has taught me a lot over the years, and it brings me a lot of joy to see him teach other new riders. 💙

Snapshot from lessons today!

The smiles said it all- was so happy to see all of the kiddos today! The horses were undecided about coming out of winter break for a few days, but the excercise is good for them. 😋

My name is Lexy Gaydos!

I am the owner, and instructor here on our farm. I have been riding for over 20 years, and compete in barrel racing and rodeos. My newest adventure has been the world of roping. My goals for lessons are centered around horsemanship, communication, confidence, and helping you to reach your riding goals! Most of the year I am teaching in the classroom, and during the breaks and summers I am teaching kids and adults how to ride and communicate with horses. 😊

I currently have 5 horses on our farm that compete, give lessons, or both! Within the next couple of years we will be expecting our first foals, as we grow our performance horse program.

Our family lives on and works on our horse farm each day. We do this because we love it, not because we need to. We love that we have found our home here and can’t wait to see what the next year brings us. ❤️

Calling all parents and adults!

I am thinking of hosting an adult “Date Night” this spring/summer. We would learn about grooming, basic riding, and end the day with dinner and dessert! Bring your partner, or bring a friend!

Who would be interested?

Why I am sooo aware at all times how kiddos (and adults) are holding their lead ropes. As much as we love horses, they are prey animals and often choose “flight” when scared or nervous. Accidents can happen quickly!

Our two lesson raffle winners! Thank you so much for everyone who bought tickets- means a lot that we get to give a little to someone who is suffering from the loss of their fur babies this season.❤️💚 Congrats winners!

Reach out and I will provide a certificate to each of you! As the weather allows through this break I will try to squeeze in some winter break lessons if possible. 😊

12/23/2023

I will be drawing today for the raffle ticket lessons! If winners would like a certificate to put under the tree, I can probably arrange to meet sometime today. 😊 Stay tuned! 💚❤️

We are going to re-schedule Christmas in the barn for December 16th from 12-3 due to the rain forecasted for this date and Covid in our household. Sorry for any inconvenience!

Sorry to those who won’t be able to make the new date due to scheduling- it is a busy time of year for all!

Some additional information for this event:
We will be adding a Christmas craft table that will be open for kiddos to make a horsey-themed ornament to remember their visit.
