You guys have absolutely blown me away with your kindness and care for our kiddos. We thank each and every one of you from the bottom of our hearts. I cannot believe we’re well over half our goal number in less than 24 hours. It’s $5 Friday! Can you spare $5 to help the cats and kittens in our care? We need it now more than ever as our intake freeze continues. We’re currently caring for 217 cats including Miss Toto here. She came home yesterday even though she was not quite ready, we were all concerned about the incoming weather and didn’t want her to be stranded without a caretaker. I can’t thank our friends at Pet Station enough for taking such great care of our girl! Her FIP meds finally arrived yesterday afternoon and she’s got a dose in. She’s not gotten up yet for me to assess the neuro symptoms, but she needs her rest so I’m going to let her sleep. Hopefully a bigger update a little later today. ❤️

🚨🚨 ANNOUNCING IMMEDIATE FREEZE OF INTAKES 🚨🚨 We ended 2024 and started 2025 with hospitalizations, emergency surgeries, and honestly we just can’t keep up at this point. We are not getting enough donations to cover the financial burden we’re enduring. With Totoro now hospitalized as well, WE ARE ANNOUNCING AN IMMEDIATE INTAKE FREEZE UNTIL WE CAN RECOVER FINANCIALLY. We will not be taking on any additional cats until we’ve paid off our vet bills. We simply can’t bear this burden alone. We’re caring for 217 cats and the costs are inordinate. Owner surrenders are at an all time high. We can’t keep up.

So here’s what we know on Totoro. She’s obviously got something really wrong but the question is what. There are a few diseases that can cause the neuro stuff like that. Toxoplasmosis, FIP, things of that nature. Her WBCs are through the roof at 64,000. So right now we’re throwing every possible medication at her and sending out some tests and seeing what sticks. She’s going to stay overnight tonight on fluids to try and keep the fever down. We should get answers from send out tests by next week. Until then we’re going to aggressively treat for FIP and toxo etc. Please keep her in your thoughts. She’s a really special girl. 💔💔 (This picture shows her very cool feature, PPM Persistent Pupillary Membranes which give her a really cool marble-y eye)

The weather this week has the potential to be icy and bitterly cold. Don’t forget shelter for our outdoor friends! Feral cats need to have options to be safe and avoid frostbite and hypothermia!! Whenever it gets freezing out it reminds us of our first Fospice case, Bucky, a senior hypothermic kitty, and reminds us that the effects of the extreme cold on the cat’s body are incredibly jarring to the animals.

If you find a cat suffering from hypothermia here are important dos and donts:

-DO reach out to the veterinarian in your area for tips and if safely able to do so, bring them in to the vet.
-DO NOT feed or water a hypothermic cat until you have raised their body temperature.
-The body must be warmed SLOWLY. Start with warm dryer heated blankets and a hair dryer BEFORE the heatpad. Warm water bottles are another great choice. When the kitty feels warm to the touch you can start the heat pad. You’ll start on the lowest setting and slowly turn it up. The process of reaching the correct body temperature is not quick it can take hours for the body to catch up and remember what to do.

Who is looking for a handsome, grumpy fellow with a great big appetite? This guy is a teensy pocket sized boy with a big voice who likes to tell you when he’s hungry. He isn’t too much of a snuggle guy, but very vocal and likes to follow you around especially at dinner time. He needs an adopter who understands his grooming needs. He came in completely matted head to toe. He needs brushed daily as his hair grows out. He’s a beautiful silver coloring. Grumpy has had a dental, bloodwork, etc and a clean bill of health and is ready to find his home!

Meet Liberty, fondly known as Libby. Her sweetness is as pure as honey, but she's not one to wear her heart on her sleeve. Libby is a bit shy, she prefers quiet corners and soft voices. Yet, she is fiercely loyal. Once she trusts you, she will be your shadow, your confidante, your constant companion. Despite her reserved nature, Libby is an avid explorer. She loves comfy beds and soft blankets. She would prefer someone without small children. An older person looking for a companion would be even better. She enjoys other cats but likely wouldn’t do well with dogs. She may not do well in a meet and greet. A foster to adopt situation would be her best bet. Stella update- still in the hospital, still no marked change. She is having more periods of getting feisty and wanting to play, but they cause her breathing to get dangerously rapid, so they have to sedate her if she gets too excited. 😭😭 That makes me so sad. 😭 Just keep praying that she gets to a manageable level.
