Homes for the Homeless is a 501c(3) non-profit organization that has been supporting the Universal City Animal Care and Control facility and its predecessors since October 1975โ€ฆโ€ฆalmost 50 years.

Fiscally, Homes for the Homeless is in excellent shape. Staffing-wise, however, we are hurting. Most of our board of directors (all unpaid volunteers) are over 70 years of age and we need โ€œnew bloodโ€ to not only come up with new ideas and handle social media, but to assume some of the few tasks that need to be done.

Its' Cold Outside

While it may not be snowing, it is still cold outside. It is recommended that pets not be left outside for long periods of time, however, if unable to keep your pet indoors, give them safe options to allow them to keep warm and dry.

Know your pets' limits. Not all pets tolerate cold the same. Be mindful of your pets age, health and breed and adjust accordingly. Small breeds, puppies or senior pets cannot tolerate extreme weather conditions.

All pets need proper shelter such as a dog house with the door faced away from the wind or rain. Provide your pet with clean blankets to provide warmth and make sure the shelter keeps them dry at all times. If you see your pet is cold and shivering, please bring them indoors.

Good morning Universal City residents. As a reminder we are expecting very cold weather this week, DO NOT set any traps. The weather is predicted to go below freezing.

Make sure to provide adequate shelter (3 sides top and a floor) with blankets to protect your pets from the cold weather. If possible, please bring your pets indoors.
Thank you for keeping our animals warm and safe!
