It's Super Bowl Sunday! Who are you rooting for?

Whether you're cheering for the Eagles or the Chiefs, we hope your day is full of snacks, friends, and fun. While it's fun for us to indulge on tasty game day treats, it's important to limit our pets' consumption of human food. If you do plan to share with your furry friends, make sure those treats are safe for your animal.

Be sure to catch the big game tonight at 6:30pm, but if you're a pup lover like the Webber Vet team, tune into the Puppy Bowl at 2:00pm.

Ah, the classic "corn chip" smell! Often called "Frito feet," the odor does resemble the scent of corn chips or tortilla chips. The smell comes from natural bacteria and yeast living on dogs' paws. Their feet have sweat glands, but these are different from human sweat glands as they secrete an oily substance that can create the perfect environment for these bacteria and fungi to thrive.

One common bacteria responsible for the smell is Proteus, which is a type of bacteria that breaks down the oils on the skin, producing the corn-chip-like odor. Additionally, Malassezia, a type of yeast that can also be found on their paws, can add to the scent.

This odor is totally normal and harmless as long as the smell isn’t accompanied by other signs of infection, such as redness, swelling, or excessive licking. Some dog owners even clean their pup's paws after walks to help reduce the smell, though it’s just a natural part of their anatomy! Does your dog have particularly "corn chip-y" feet?

🐾 Webber Vet Friends and Family 🐾

Brrr... the cold weather is here! ❄️ As temperatures drop, it's essential to take steps to keep your furry friends safe and cozy. We've put together some tips to help your pets enjoy a warm and happy winter season:

🕒 Limit Time Outdoors: Shorten outdoor activities like walks and potty breaks, especially for pets with less cold tolerance.

🏠 Provide Warm Shelter: Outdoor pets need insulated, dry shelters with proper bedding to stay warm.

👕 Cold Weather Clothing: Sweaters or jackets can help pets with thin coats, but remember to remove them indoors to avoid overheating.

🐾 Protect Their Paws: Use pet boots or paw balm to shield paws from ice, snow, and salt. Keep the fur between their pads trimmed to prevent buildup.

🎾 Keep Them Active Indoors: Play games, use puzzle feeders, or try training exercises to keep their minds busy.

❗ Watch for Hypothermia: Shivering, lethargy, or unusual behavior could indicate cold stress—seek veterinary attention if needed.

🍲 Maintain a Healthy Diet: Some pets may need more calories in winter. Always provide fresh, unfrozen water.

🩺 Veterinary Care: Older pets or those with joint issues may need extra care in the cold—ask your vet for advice.
