We rely on foster homes to accomplish our mission. These kitties all go to a foster to adjust to Colorado and so we can learn more about these kids. If you are interested in fostering, please reach out and/or complete the form on our website. We also love our volunteers if you aren’t able to foster in your home!

This morning we received an update regarding Girl Scout Cookie, now named Penelope. She is settling into her forever home beautifully! Penelope was living at the for 3 months which is one of the longer stays we have had. She is FIV positive, which is a virus that is often stigmatized. Kitties can live long and healthy lives despite being FIV+ and we regularly have positive kitties living at the café.

As a small rescue, we rely on volunteers and foster homes to make our mission happen. Please check out website to sign up!

Today’s foster is Marina. She has been one of our amazing fosters for 2 years now and her favorite part is “bonding with so many different kitties and knowing they will find their forever home. I’m so grateful for all the memories over the years and seeing them with their new families knowing they will be happy and loved!”. She sees fostering as incredibly rewarding and loves the community of the Denver Cat Rescue foster program.

Her advise for new fosters: The first one is the hardest. But it gets easier letting them go if you just remind yourself you’re giving the cats their best chance. When they are with you, it’s like they are in cat finishing school. You’ll fall in love over and over but ultimately you are doing something so special for your fosters.

Our first Foster Friday highlight!

Meet Marcia! She has been fostering for the Denver Cat Rescue for around 9 months, though her fostering journey started 2 years ago. Her favorite part about fostering is to see cats transform from either scared, shy or untrusting of humans, to an animal that knows what love and affection can feel like. She loves to see kitties move onto the where they can run, play, climb, and socialize. She sees fostering as “one of the most rewarding roles you can have. By bettering the life of a cat, setting them up for success in their journey to their furr-ever home, you are truly making a difference in the lives of these cats. You will truly save lives”.

Our sweet Emerald is mainly referred to as Emma so her fosters can do the TikTok trend “Emma. No. No. Emma stop. No. Emma. Emma. Stop it. Don’t do it.” They say the trend to her often because she follows their resident cat, Sterling, around like they are attached at the hip. We have never seen a cat love cats as much as Emma does. Emma and Sterling get separated at night so he can relax and have some quiet time away from his obsessed temporary girlfriend. Is your cat looking for an obsessed girlfriend or best friend? If yes, then Emma is the cat for you! She is the absolute sweetest cat to other cats. She has definitely come around to humans and dogs as well, but will always prefer love from other cats.

Porterhouse is estimated to be 18 pounds and 10 years old. He was sadly an owner surrender in Kansas and his age made it tough for them to adopt him out so they sent Porterhouse to us. He is so sweet, cuddly, and friendly! It makes no sense to us why this handsome and perfect boy got surrendered. We are hoping to find him the best forever home so he can live out the rest of his days being loved and feeling safe.

Tanner in his foster home cuddled up with his valentine this year/resident cat, Pippi!

We currently have 7 orange cats in our care which is unusual for us. We are all obsessed with orange cats though! They all tend to share one brain cell while being the most loving kitties. 🧡

✨ Teddy and Mochi ✨ (previously Thor and Loki) in their FURever home!

They have spent the last few months cuddling, playing in cardboard boxes, and napping. These handsome men were originally surrendered by their owner a year after adoption. We are grateful that accepted them and allowed us to help them get adopted at the cafe. Bonded pairs are tough to get adopted so we are very happy that Kenzie and her fiancé fell in love our adorable orange men.

Meet Blake! He is a year old and blind in one eye. He is the absolute sweetest boy! We wish we had more information on him, but look forward to watching his personality show as he continues his time in foster care before joining the cafe.

Gracie is a 10 month old tabby from Kansas. We unfortunately did not receive any information on her but her foster has given us some insight on Gracie.

“Gracie (nicknamed Cleo and Nala) is very quirky, has high energy (even getting the zoomies), and is the ultimate cuddler and purrer. She is lengthy and completely unaware of her body and her most common noise is somewhere between a trill and a grunt. She is hilarious and super lovable ❤️”

With Valentine’s Day quickly approaching, Gumbo wanted to remind you that he is a better Valentine than any human ever will be for you. Gumbo is quite shy, but he’s been the best first boyfriend to his foster mate, Jessie. He has spent his days cuddling her and treating her like a queen. He will be joining the cafe soon to find his forever home with another kitty he can velcro to! ❤️

Nico and Nova are absolutely adorable! They tend to make a mess around their food bowl, but they are too cute to be mad. Nico has a very impressive set of teeth he shows off when he yawns.

Chris was transported to us from Kansas. We originally were told that he was over a year old, but a recent vet visit due to a cold informed us that he is actually a 6 month old kitten. He is very playful and sweet and our foster has posted quite a few videos of him showing these qualities. Chris will be joining the cafe soon to find his forever home!

After two months in foster care, Olive is finally joining the cafe today. ❤️🐈‍⬛

Olive’s story:
Olive was found in Texas by a busy highway in a Walmart parking lot. She was starving, flea infested, and had wounds on her head and face. She saw someone crouch down and she ran right up to them, begging for help. It was almost dark outside, so they took Olive. She had a very rough start to life, but she is finally doing better all because of Sarah who saved her. The vet office spent a long time helping her with her puncture wounds. We are unsure of how she was attacked or how she even survived.
Olive is so sweet and trusting, even after her horrendous first six weeks of life. She is now 5 months old and ready to find a forever home that can give her the love she deserves.

Nico and Nova are 6 month old siblings from Kansas. They were very skittish while at the shelter mostly due to them being sick when they first got there. Once they were healthy and up to date on shots, they opened up quite a bit.

Transport day! Meet our four new Denver Cat Rescue cats. Stop by @denvercatco to meet them and get these fearful beans into loving homes. 😻 Inkjet Printer is 2 years old! She was brought to DFL as a stray. She’s very fearful and will need a slow introduction into her forever home. Once she realizes that all you want to do is pet her and love on her, she will open up and accept you. It just takes time. This 6 year old tortie tabby is Croissant. She is very loving and obsessed with treats. Croissant was an owner surrender, but we are not sure why. She loves chin scratches and has the sweetest face. Our tiny English Muffin is 4 years old and only six pounds. She was an owner surrender due to her being overly active. English Muffin is going to need an adopter who is willing to play with her consistently and potentially have another feline companion for her to play with as well. Tamlin is a sweet old man. This 10 year baby was a stray and is extremely fearful.
