Minnie has now been missing for one week.

The Chicago community has come together with an outpouring of support to help Minnie’s family bring her home.

I created this post in hopes that it will help guide all of us to be more prepared on how to assist in the efforts of bringing Minnie home safely.

And thank you to everyone who has dedicated so much time to this sweet girl that most of us have never met , but love her oh so much.

On behalf of Laura (Minnie’s Mom), Shelby, and Shir , we’d like to say that there are no amount of thank you’s to express how grateful we are to every incredible human who came out today.

Here’s what you did today :

🐾 You divided yourselves into small quiet groups
🐾 You took seriously the directions you were presented with, to ensure safety precautions were taken both for you and for Minnie (we can’t express how appreciative we are for this especially, as this was key)
🐾 You made posting flyers in high visibility areas in your zones your priority as well as talking to passers- by , businesses , and residential buildings. (Remember every flyer equals over 100 eyes looking out for Minnie )
🐾 What’s more , by posting the flyers and talking to the public , you educated people what to do and what not to do when they see Minnie
🐾 You covered SO much ground ! And you communicated effectively with us along the way
🐾 You spent your Saturday looking for Minnie , for many hours

Because of all of you , now the chances of someone seeing Minnie and immediately calling her Mom, Laura, have increased exponentially.

So THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts.

We are asking for RSVP’s so we can keep this search organized , structured , and effective to give us the best chance to find this sweet girl and bring her home.

🐾You are your dog’s best and only true advocate 🐾

Yes the font is super small here. There is just so much to share regarding keeping your dog safe when they are in someone else’s care.

In addition to these slides , it’s also important to share that not all dogs do well in daycare or boarding facilities and it’s the daycare’s staff that is responsible to give you honest feedback about your dog’s communication inside the pack. And yes , if your dog is not a fit whether they are not taking social cues in the pack or just overly stressed , it is absolutely the daycare’s responsibility to not accept your dog.

If your dog is not a fit for daycare or boarding facilities, there are other options for care. Dog walkers , pet sitters , family , and more. Consult with your trusted vet or trainer for more resources.

Just to be clear , there are absolutely wonderful and responsible daycare and boarding facilities out there. In light of a recent tragic incident at a local Chicago daycare , I was motivated to post this information to help dog parents understand how to make sure that your chosen daycare / boarding facility is safe.

Our hearts are aching for LA as we watch the neighborhoods I grew up in and spent most of my life in go up in flames. We are in complete shock at the devastation that is happening to the communities we called home for so long.

This is a photo of young Chance enjoying the view of LA from Runyon Canyon - a hike we enjoyed regularly very much. It’s completely unbelievable that this canyon and this view that this canyon displayed so beautifully, is no longer what it used to be.

To our family , friends , and neighbors who are going through the unimaginable, we are here for you now , and throughout the years it will take to rebuild and recover.

Thank you to the emergency services heroes who are fighting tirelessly to save what they can.

I think one of the most challenging things about life is learning how to love and accept yourself exactly how you are. And this lesson has been and will always be a journey for me.

I grew up learning that physical looks matter, , and mine have changed drastically depending on what life looked like throughout the years.

So what does this post have to do with a dog training IG account ?

Everything.

This Fall , I met and she put into action what I often take a “do as I say not as I do “ approach on. Kimberly captured what actually does matter in these gorgeous photographs that I will cherish forever:

You see , what I should have learned growing up is - your physical appearance is the least interesting thing about you. What’s most interesting about you is your passion and love for others , and dare I say - your love for yourself.

This is what Kimberly brought out in Chance and I in her beautiful work. And this is what Chance brought out of me. When I look at these photographs, I don’t see a large version of Shir. Instead I see the immense bond between Chance and I. The love we share. That he is my whole world and I am his.

And our photo shoot with Kimberly taught me to be present with Chance. To not think about what others will see. To enjoy the process of being together just him and I.

And guess what ? Since the photo shoot Chance and I did indeed grow closer. He is sleeping in bed with me again. We cuddle more than before. And our time we spend together- well… I am much more present.

So, thank you Kimberly for bringing this lesson to light for me and Chance. And for all the dog moms and dads out there - love each other , love yourselves , be present , and accept yourself the way you are today.

Because life is short.

Today is Election Day. And one thing everyone can agree on is that this is the most important election in our lifetime.

Your voice matters and voting is how your voice will be heard.

If you already voted during the early voting period, well done ! And thank you !

If you’re like me and prefer to vote on Election Day you have until 7pm to get to the polls and exercise your right to vote.

🥂ACT is 5 years strong today ! 🥂

5 years ago today Another Chance Training launched in Chicago.

Chance and I had no idea what to expect. We moved here from the West Coast with a few dollars in our pocket and only having each other.

Today , we have the honor of being connected with thousands of families we have trained , a circle of friends and colleagues, and a beautiful community of dog lovers in this amazing city.

Thank you EVERYONE for being a part of our journey, and for your generosity, kindness, and support for a girl and her dog who just want to give all humans and dogs as many chances as it takes.

Looking forward to celebrating with you at our anniversary event tomorrow !

This dog was found in Schorsch Village near Cornelia and Narrangansett. No collar no tags. Must have just gotten out because fur is completely dry. If you recognize this dog please DM.

Meet The Trainer

My name is Shir and I am a certified dog trainer and behaviorist with certifications in canine nutrition. My dog Chance and I met for a reason almost 4 years ago. Together we want to change lives one dog family at a time. Dog training is not about a successful sit, or a shake. Training is a lifestyle. It’s about taking cues that you and your dog learn in minutes and integrating them into behaviors that impact your every day throughout your entire lives you will share together. If the phrase, “we went to puppy class and he learned how to sit, he just doesn’t listen sometimes, he’s stubborn” sounds familiar, or “she’s usually good, she just get’s over excited sometimes”, or....... what phrase do you feel obligated to say out loud when your dog “doesn’t behave”? Your dog is behaving....he or she just doesn’t know differently.

Through positive reinforcement and taking a full circle approach that includes making changes to everyone’s environment, routines, and even nutrition, we take training to a doable and realistic level. And because we make it doable, you and your entire family will not only succeed reaching your goals, training will become part of your every day life.
