🚨BREAKING NEWS: As of January 18, 2023, puppies may no longer be sold in Houston Pet stores (but they are available for adoption through animal shelters and rescues, (i.e., humanely sourced). Houston pet stores that do not comply are subject to a fine of $500 per puppy per day.

On August 3rd, Petland Bellaire will appear in court and be required to answer under oath why it refuses to follow the ordinance. Stay tuned for details on the court appearance.

In the meantime, how can we ensure these ordinances are enforced? If you see a Houston pet store selling puppies or someone selling animals on public property or public rights-of-way in Houston and unincorporated Harris County, including shopping center parking lots, please do the following:

➡️ Take pictures of the puppies/animals for sale.
➡️ Note the name and address of the store where it’s happening or the road or parking lot where the animals are being sold.
➡️ Call 3-1-1.
➡️ Let THLN know about the sale by emailing us at [email protected] with the photo/details!

Yall say hello to this cutie!!
Atticus is going to be hanging out with us this weekend in boarding. He is a foster (HINT) with one of our previous clients (Remember Sawyer and Dawn?💙)
Atticus was shutting down in the chaotic shelter environment and needed a way out fast. Dawn to the rescue💙
Dawn is currently fostering Atticus through the Abilene Animal Shelter and giving him some really good training and home manners in the meantime. He knows sit, down, walks on a leash pretty well and does okay in the crate. Mostly, he enjoys naps and lots of pets! He'll be looking for his forever home ASAP! As always, The Black Collar K9 Academy, LLC pack is a hoot and a half to be around, whether it’s Greyson stealing my blanket from the couch mid zoomies and trying to take it outside, or moxie sneak licking my toes while I’m distracted, or even maizyn staring into my soul waiting patiently for attention, they always keep things interesting to say the least! Miss Kizzie is a Cane Corso!
She is in classes to learn how to be a calm and respectful member of the family! This girl is super high drive and needs lots of stimulation and a job to do!

We’ve incorporated a place stay, leash manners, polite greetings of guests, and much more, and kizzie is becoming a calm, productive member of the family! Way to go Kizzie!!

This crazy sweet boy is Radar! Radar suffered from severe anxiety and some fear reactivity involving the leash! Now his mom can walk him without any negative reactions and he gets rather excited to see the leash! We’ve also been teaching a place stay to curb some unwanted behaviors in home, but he thinks the place bed makes a better back scratcher. Peep those chompers!

Look at that handler bond! You can really tell sweet intelligent maple loves her dad! Julio Quinones with Dogfather Curbside Grooming works great with this sweet gal and you can see the progress they’ve made when they’re training together! Way to go you two!!

We love all of the fluffy puppies here!!
We get to help condition this sweet pup named Bruno🤫🤫 to be groomed! Starting small with a slicker brush and soon we’ll be able to give this cutie a trim before he heads home!

As always it’s a joy to work with Bo and Daisy! We’re currently working on a place stay with duration and distractions for Daisy, who is overcoming her reactivity! and tethering to encourage calmness from Bo who still has lots and lots of energy!
Tethering will help us build up to a place stay for Bo! So, What is a place stay?
Place stays are essential tools for any household with pets!
The place stay is an essential tool that will teach your dog to settle down in any situation and provide structure, letting them know that they cannot do whatever they want whenever! It gives your pet a job you assign rather than one they can choose on their own. When your dog chooses their own job, it will usually display undesirable behaviors, such as:
Jumping on guests
Becoming destructive
Getting into things they’re not supposed to
Begging at the dinner table
Rushing to the door

As coat blowing season rolls around again, please make sure you are either brushing, regularly bathing and blow drying, or getting your pup groomed at a salon to prevent coat compaction!! Coat compaction can alter the way your pups coat regulates their body temperature, and it can be pretty painful if it becomes matted! For a grooming quote just send us a message!!
