I am almost finished moving into my new location in Malta, MT. I have veterinary conferences this weekend and will be starting to book appointments again next week. Thank you all for your patience. Locations within 100 miles or so of Malta will be frequently available. Farther than that will depend on my upcoming routes and scheduling. I do plan a Lewistown/Big Timber run. Also a Bitterroot run is pending. The ND fall route is open to get on the list, and will likely be the last week of August and into September.

Recently, there was a news article published in ND accusing a veterinary clinic of not caring and being negligent. I wasn’t present, so I don’t know what happened. I will say this, there are two sides to every story.

I’ve been in their shoes. I’ve been accused of killing someone’s animal, not doing my job, not caring, etc.

It’s easy for people to get upset when someone in the community says, “I took my animal in to the vet for a cough, and he died. They did something wrong and killed him.”

What if I told you the animal was a 26 year old gelding with a BCS 1/5? The cough? This horse was a lifetime asthmatic who was poorly managed at best. Because of that, he was now in congestive heart failure with a bad case of pneumonia. The thin body condition? He had no teeth, but the owner would not put the horse on processed feed daily. The horse died. So is it the veterinarian’s fault?

I truly believe the end of privately owned veterinary clinics is coming to an end. (Maybe even small businesses in general.) Most rural practices are down to one or two veterinarians who are expected to be on call 24/7/365.

The amount of online courses a person can take that allows an average person to do what I sacrificed 7 years of life and $200,000 in student loans for is ridiculous. Why go to vet school anymore?

“You should take a vacation.”
“I called when you were gone (at my nephew’s birthday), and my horse died because you couldn’t come.”

“Hire some more staff.”
“You would not believe my vet bill.”

“You need to say no to more people.”
“What do you mean you can’t come this week?”

“Make some time for your kids.”
“I can only do Tuesday or Thursday after 6:00pm. My kids have things going on.”

Somehow, the world has lost touch with reality. Animals live and animals die. We do our best to intervene, but we somehow have forgotten that we don’t have the final say.

I love this job. Whether I’m looking at animals or not, it’s on my mind 24/7. But none of us are perfect, we all make mistakes. I’ve made plenty, and somehow, those clients have known this and still stuck with me. I have some good ones.

If something goes wrong, you do have a right to be angry. It’s normal. You do not have a right to destroy someone’s life and business. So before you jump in with the social media lynch mob, take a breath and remember that you aren’t hearing the whole story.

We had quite the variety today for dentals! Donkey decided he didn’t want to participate in dental day, so will be examined on another day.

Thank you again to all of my ND clients - new and repeats! I’m headed back to Montana tomorrow to take some time off and will be coordinating MT summer routes and the ND fall run soon.

Oh, and I don’t recommend getting booted by a horse. Going to take a bit of time to heal up so please be patient as I get back to everyone’s messages 😬

I would like to take a moment to thank all of my clients for a fast paced and packed solid spring ND run. You have all been wonderful and I’m so thankful to be able to assist with your equine dental needs. I will be making the rounds for my clients in the western part of the state this week.

Now to address some rumors that have begun to circulate. Yes, I am relocating in the next couple of weeks to Malta, MT. This is a much anticipated change and I’m very excited to see the opportunities that will be opened up. As of now, my service areas and upcoming routes will be unchanged. I will be catching up with clients when I return to Montana next week. I will be scheduling for Browning, Augusta, Great Falls and Fort Shaw before I complete the moving process. Please be patient as I wrap up this ND route and I will be in touch with my MT clients soon.

The ND route is officially closed! If we are currently messaging, I will be in touch later today to finalize a date and time. However, I will not be adding to the list at this time.

If you are able to haul in to NDSU or Lidgerwood on those dates, I will still work you in.

Thank you all for keeping me busy on this route! I appreciate having each and every one of you as clients. I will be starting a list for the fall run soon, which will likely be in September.

ND route update:

My schedule is pretty full, but I may be able to work some horses in depending on the day and location. As of right now, here are the current available openings.

Tuesday April 30th: after 5:00 PM in Bismarck

Thursday and Friday May 2nd and 3rd: haul-in opportunity at NDSU Equine Center. Student discount applies to ANY horse hauled into the facility on these days.

Saturday afternoon May 4th and Sunday morning May 5th: haul-in location available in Lidgerwood. Please message me for the address/directions

Tuesday May 7th: last call for Minot and surrounding areas

Wednesday May 8th: evening availability for Hazen/Beulah

Saturday May 11th: haul-in location for Sheyenne. Please message me for directions and availability

I will be returning to Montana and working on the schedule for the remainder of May. Plans include Browning, Cut Bank, Augusta, Great Falls, and surrounding areas.

Yes, I have my dental trailer listed for sale. NO, I am not quitting or making any other changes to my dental practice. I have a suspension setup and headstand that work very well. I am still here for your equine dental needs! I just don’t see the need to use the trailer lately and my practice is based on equine comfort and human safety. Booking for spring and summer 2024 is underway, please get your horses booked as soon as possible to help my routes flow smoothly 😊

2000 Chevrolet S-10 LS Extended Cab with 3rd door Four wheel drive with automatic transmission. Has the 4.3 V6 engine. Pickup has 155,760 miles on it but a new engine was put in at 93,859 miles.

I am beginning to organize the ND spring route. One of the biggest changes is that I will not be bringing my trailer with me. This allows me to be more efficient as far as traveling goes. I have a suspension halter and a headstand that have been working very well. I made this change last summer and feel that it is the right decision for my practice and works well for the comfort of your horses.

Tentative upcoming dates:

ND spring route will likely begin the last week of April and carry on through mid-May. Several trips through Bismarck are expected. Please contact me with location and number of horses to be added to the list. Official dates will be discussed as we get closer to that time and know what the weather will be like.

Fargo: May 2-3 (student discount applies to any horse hauled into the NDSU facility)

Geneseo/Lidgerwood: May 4-5 (haul in locations available)

Browning: July 5-6 (Pro rodeo, dentals available after perfs)

Now that Christmas has passed and gifts have been revealed, I'd like to thank Sara Erhardt Schank with Art By Sara Jean for doing such an excellent job on this project for me. I sent in the registration papers from my sister's mare and my beloved Eddy, who have both passed away. Wishing everyone a safe and Merry Christmas. I will be traveling tomorrow to spend time with family.

My schedule for the next couple of weeks is not set in stone, as we have a family member in hospice and may need to rearrange plans. Please be patient as we take things one day at a time.

As of right now, I may have openings in Minot and out towards Bowbells the 27-30th of December. I will try to make a Bismarck run if there is enough interest and weather permits.
