What is it about October that has us so excited?

Not only does the owner of Mother of Reptiles MOR have an October birthday, but many of our unique Iguana species also have their birthdays this month!

Who Is Your Favorite?

September 10th - Joon and Kinky
Hatching a little earlier than October but important clutchmate girls nonetheless. These USCBB ladies are two of our Lesser Antillean Iguanas (Iguana delicatissima) who are Critically Endangered. Wild populations are plummeting due to poaching, invasive species, and feral domesticated animals. You won't find this species in most zoos. With a calm but inquisitive demeanor, this species is incredible to observe and interact with.

October 1st - Giizhig
Our little blueberry who is growing up to be quite a handsome guy. He is a USCBB Grand Cayman Blue Iguana Hybrid (Cyclura lewisi x Cyclura nubila) whose personality is blooming with each passing day. He name means Sky in Anishinaabemowin, the tribal language of the Mother Of Reptiles owner.

October 14th - Asha
Another one of our USCBB female Lesser Antillean Iguanas who is the largest of the ladies(in a positive way of course 😆). She's a sweetheart who took longer to win over than the other girls but has been a joy to work with. With her help, more captive bred Lesser Antillean Iguanas will be brought into this world.

October 17th - Pembe
This dog-like mini dinosaur is not just beautiful, but also sweet in nature. He often comes running in excitement to say hello with a mouth wide open, rocking his head side to side. He's a USCBB rhinoceros iguana (Cyclura cornuta) and has been raised here since he was a week old. Rhinoceros iguanas are also an Endangered species.

October 28th - Esteban
The one and only. Esteban is the USCBB boy who started our fascination in Lesser Antillean Iguanas. Not only is he handsome, his mellow nature is the trademark of the delicatissima species.

M.O.R. Wholeprey Grinds are great for socializing shy or fearful Reptiles, especially the big guys. Taking time to sit with your animal is important to show them that you are not a threat and do not wish to harm them.

Here, I am using a welding glove to make sure no hands are accidentally targeted with a large male Nile monitor. My other hand without a glove is touching his back and tail to get him used to touch. Over time, he has realized that I mean no harm and that I'm the bringer of food.
