This Old Potter House is getting their hay field bailed today ❤️👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 This means we need to get the rolls loaded and moved to the rescue by Friday. That way we can have them covered before the possible thunderstorms on Saturday!

We have a tractor guy able to load them, follow us to the rescue and unload them for $400. Then we have a guy with a semi setup willing to haul them for us for $325-425. This means we’ve got to get $825 by Friday 😬

ANY help is appreciated! This hay not only feeds our rescues, but it’s also helped other local rescues and atleast a dozen community members who fell on hard times just in the last year!!!! When we get these rolls donated, we always set aside what will take care of ours and then the “community rows”. Those stay here covered, and ready to help out horses in need in our area. They also save us a few thousand dollars annually that we would otherwise be spending on hay that would just go to our rescues.

We have been covering the rescue expenses ourselves since Sampsons surgery, we absolutely WONT ask for help unless it’s needed. This is one of those times!

Salt 🧂 should ALWAYS be added to your horse’s feed.. not just when the temperatures fluctuate 😉

An 1100 lb horse in maintenance; REQUIRES a minimum of 2 TB of salt per day! (More if they are in work!) Most horses will not lick a salt block enough to reach the daily requirement. Adding it to their feed ensures they’re getting it every single day.

I always pick up a couple of these when I’m at the grocery store. Loose bagged salt is even cheaper but these are inexpensive enough if you only have a few horses and I love the convenience of them. Grab some the next time you’re at the grocery store! It’s too easy, no excuses!

Today we’re saying our final goodbye to Buddy 💔🥺 Buddy was the Wild Tribes first rescue. He was sooo sweet to everyone, if he heard people he was immediately on the hunt for whoever he could find to get some scratches or cookies. When he came in he was underweight and a little on the mean side, to people and the other horses. He quickly became friendly with people (lots of help from cookies) and after some time being in a run by Renny we were able to let those two live together in their time with us (which became a scary but hilarious duo 😂😂 ).

When we adopted Buddy out he went to live with the sweetest family and has been enjoying his good days in a huge, open, green pasture. He’s gotten sooo much more love then he needed and it truly showed when we visited. I’m sooo thankful that sweet boy got the happily ever after he so deserved. We will miss Buddy so much and I’m sure his family will as well 💔🥺

Hope 🥰😍 (was Jasmine)

This girl is like a dog lol!!! We’ve been working with her on being able to touch everywhere without fear and leading without being dead weight. She’s getting to be so much better already 👏🏻. She’s the most food motivated horse I’ve ever met lol!!! I find myself calling her “fattie girl” pretty often, but she doesn’t mind 😂😂. In these pictures she thought my phone might make a good snack and I got the whole thought process in picture form 🤦🏻‍♀️😂❤️

Bath days to cool off from this heat 🥵🥵

Earlier this week the girls and Doc each got a good bath and scrubbing 🧽 They LOVED it too! That says quite a bit about this heat lol!!

I’m so sorry I’ve seem to disappear from the page, I promise the rescue is still going strong. I’ve just been working double shifts almost every day this month! We’ve had so many changes too, some good, others not too good.

The fillies we took in around January are with a new foster home and doing great! They both need lots of work to come around, but so far they’re taking small steps and that’s all we need for now.

Doc has not been doing well. We’ve changed his pain medication doses and are seeing how that will go, but this is the most we are able to give him. If this does work, it won’t be forever. That being said, we aren’t too sure how much longer Doc has with us 💔💔🥺

Buddy’s adopters have made the call for him. His health has just declined too severely and has stayed this way consistently. We are making plans for his rainbow bridge crossing.

Aside from the bad news, This Old Potter House is teeing up to have their hay field cut and bailed again 🥳🥳🥳 This means we’ll be back to not having to purchase hay weekly (we ran out beginning of this month) which will save me from many double shifts in the future lol!!

Sampson’s infection has cleared up completely. He’s also learned how to p*e like a mare, so no more p*e running down his legs!!! He is also still the destroyer of panels. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ Pictures will come of that. Him and Billy like to share grain, so when it’s Sampsons turn to reach over the stall panel, being a little heavier than Billy, he just crushes the whole panels down to shoulder/cannon level 🫠🙃, so that’s fun! He’s definitely quirky, but he’s also such a huge lover ❤️❤️❤️ He knows he’s a big teddy bear

Horse owners and sellers BEWARE

‼️‼️SHE WILL BE LOOKING FOR MORE‼️‼️

Raechelle L Burns, Raechelle L Long, Kaye Steffy, Kari Steffy, Michelle L Burns, Rachel L Burns, Raechella L Burns, ETC… (These are all one person)
She has multiple locations around Kansas but currently holds her horses in Valley Center.

Raechelle has a history of purchasing or adopting horses and then just letting them starve!!!! She has had 2 documented seizures that we can find, one in 2016, one in 2019 and another one currently happening. Back in February of this year a boarding facility absorbed 5 out of 7 of her horses because she was starving them.

The current case is horrific. All in the course of 6-7 weeks she has starved 6 horses from a body score of 5 all the way down to 1-0. They have injuries AND they’ve ate off every bit of mane and tail they could and some have even resorted to eating what they can get of their frogs.

This one isn’t your typical abuser. She has sent thousands of dollars to support equine rescues, individuals needing help and kill pen fundraisers. Seems now it was only to gain trust and cover up her horrific neglect. All this time she was sending feed and hay to others and just watching the horses she had starve to death.

Somehow she’s not alone in it either. Her husband or ex-husband (truly who even knows anymore) has been part of it each time as well and also refuses to surrender the horses they have currently. (Seized yesterday, one didn’t make it)

You’ll see throughout different equine groups in the U.S. she has posts up looking for more horses. Please steer clear of sending anything living her way, it won’t be living long if you do.

The photos below are of the horses that she had for 6-7 weeks. There is an ongoing investigation and the other 2 (1 of the three left didn’t make it) were seized yesterday.

❤️❤️Sampson update ❤️❤️
Sampson is still on the road to recovery after his phallectomy. He just had a superficial infection come up around the sutures for his new p*eing area. We are cleaning that daily. He is off of pain management and will finish up his antibiotics come Friday 🥳 So far he’s doing amazing after a pretty hard procedure ❤️❤️❤️

We’ve been doing so much ground work with him (everything at a walk). If we can get him some manners before all of his weight is back that would be amazing. His biggest problem is being extremely pushy. If he gets set on something while being lead out, he will try absolutely dragging whoever’s on the other end of the lead rope. It’s like he did skijoring without a rider in the past 🤔🤔. We’re working through that and getting him to hold his hooves for his upcoming trim. He’ll pick them up no problem usually, but he refuses to hold it up even for just a hoof pick.

He is still so sweet though ❤️❤️❤️ he’s like a huge teddy bear when he’s being loving 🥰

52 days is all that we’ve had Sampson for. Of those, he’s spent 25 being hospitalized ❤️‍🩹.

Yesterday was the end of this brutal fight we’ve been going through with him and now he’s on the path to full health ❤️🥹🙏🍾. To take extra precautions and have a full day to watch over him, we’ll be picking him up tomorrow. This is especially important because if we take him home early (today) and anything happens, we’ve got at least 3 hours before he could be back to the vet who can fix him. Finding a surgical vet, capable and wanting to do this procedure was NOT easy. We found one who told us they could, kept him hospitalized for almost a month and ended up not doing the procedure at all. I am so beyond thankful that we then found Cutting Edge Equine Hospital ❤️❤️. They took him in on Thursday, had some emergencies pop up and were able to get his surgery done yesterday. I was so worried he would have a grave outcome because we exhausted our resources on his first hospitalization and I was having such a hard time finding a vet who could actually do the procedure. They’ve not only done the procedure before, but they’re actually pretty experienced with them. This surgery isn’t an easy one, it’s actually pretty complicated, but it was Sampsons only hope to a happy and healthy future.

Our pretty boy is now on the mend and should be back home tomorrow ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

We have a late update on Sampson

His surgery has been pushed ahead to Monday, understandably due to a few severe emergency surgery cases that came in this morning. They’ll keep managing his pain and keeping him comfortable in the mean time and all board until his surgery will be waived.

Our pretty boy Sampson is tucked in safe and sound at Cutting Edge Equine Hospital ❤️ I’m so thankful he got this opportunity to finally feel better! Now we just have to wait and pray for a perfect outcome for him. The procedure will be done standing to minimize risk, he will be on his same feed from home and he’s going to be monitored for the rest of tonight before going through with the surgery tomorrow morning. After that we will discuss when he comes home!

This is a risky procedure, but one we didn’t have an option to avoid for Sampsons sake. This is probably the most nervous I’ve been about one of our rescues so far, but the vet was so good at explaining each small thing they will do to minimize the risk.

On a side note, his 5th leg attracted lots of viewers at the vets 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🙃 and this is the most beautiful veterinary facility I’ve ever seen!!! It is set up perfect 😍

Farrier is almost here 🥳🥳🥳

08/04/2024

I didn’t have much time for a live this morning between hydroing Sampson and getting him moving some and hydro ting Doc. Doc has somehow got some sheath swelling himself yesterday, so we’ve been getting him hydroed and moving him around more then usual to keep the swelling down. How he did this? I’m not sure I’m just thankful it’s not too bad and already going down lol!

We are having Sampson hauled to the vet (and myself) Wednesday morning, Thursday it’s still unclear if we are going to get him or if we will be able to have him picked up.

This Friday the farrier will be out at 10 to work on everybody, aside from Daisy and possibly Sampson depending on how he’s doing.

Daisy’s appointment to get everything done is the final week of April. By everything I mean a float, annuals, new coggins and a good trim while she’s under anesthesia!

I’ve been trying to clear some extra time for a live recently because I’ve got some very exciting things changing within the rescue! We are going to work towards brining in more members who are just as dedicated to saving horses, and doing it how we have already been.

Lastly, we are NOT 501C3, but we can most definitely use the help if you’d like to help us fund Sampsons vet visit. I’m expecting to pay about $350 to get him to the vets, we’re still unsure on costs of the procedure as it will really depend on him and how bad the situation is. After that we have the farrier coming, that’s $50 a horse and not normally something we’d request help with, but we’re still paying towards Sampsons prior hospitalization.

04/04/2024

Sampson has an appointment next week with Cutting Edge where his p***s will be removed. We will be bringing him home the next evening so they have a full 24+ hours to watch him. The vet doing it has done this procedure countless times and is pretty adamant that he will do fine with it!

2 Socks and his companion Annie made it to their forever this evening ❤️ We have the best feeling about it. I’ll be seeing more of him still so I’ll get pictures and videos (I’ve got to clear up space lol). He’s made it to his FOREVER home and so has Annie ❤️. He is doing our foster-to-adopt program and his future owner has already been spending plenty of time with him and she’s still absolutely in love with his butter ball self lol!! There’s no feeling like knowing he’s safe and watching him run and buck in his forever home. He’s got a huge space, a beautiful, nice, new barn, multiple ponds and fresh water troughs AND a family that adores him and his companion Annie ❤️. They already have appointments set up with well known professionals in our area too ❤️.

I absolutely take my time finding homes for our rescues and THIS IS WHY!!! 2 Socks got his happily ever after tonight ❤️❤️❤️❤️ I’m so overjoyed for him
