On a recent camping trip, my young dog was approaching a friendly young man to say HI. The man's girlfriend jumped on his back for a piggyback ride and Boss started backing up and barking. We take pups out for socializing but you don't anticipate needing g to socialize to an 8 foot human with 2 heads.

Good morning. I am at the beginning of a greatly anticipated 4 night camping trip. is experiencing Zion NP for the first time.

Trip essentials packed. I think I have more stuff for the dogs' comfort than my own. But I did forget 1 critical item.

What is the one thing your dog can't do without on a trip? AND make a guess as to what I forgot.

In my role as Trojan Professional Services, Inc.'s Marketing Coordinator, I find myself reading and sharing articles about the dental industry. This one, written by a registered dental hygienist, caught my eye. It is worth sharing whenever something that touches the lives of dogs and those who love them comes out.

The line "We are seeing it added to toothpaste, fluoride varnishes, gum, and mints and promoted to aid improved oral health." is particularly important. Xylitol is extremely toxic to dogs and cats. It is being added to many oral health products because it is becoming increasingly known that Xylitol is beneficial to humans.

Be very aware of this danger. Make sure your children cannot "share" items with their pets. Secure products that contain Xylitol.

Xylitol has resurfaced in recent years as a natural sugar (derived from birch bark, corn cob, raspberries, and even strawberries) that inhibits bacterial

We don't all love fireworks. I love to watch them. But I am always thinking about my pets' comfort. The 4th of July, Independence Day holiday, is here. If you aren't going the route of anti-anxiety medication for the night, or even if you are, here are some tips that can help you get through the night.

1. Keep them awake and active all day. No napping.
2. Increase excersize, physical and mental, to exhaust them.
3. If you can, close windows and doors and turn on the AC.
4. OTC herbal remedies in tablet form can be effective for some dogs.
5. DAP - Dog Appeasing Pheromone, in the diffuser or the collar, is also a choice for a calming aid.
6. The Thunder shirt or coat can also help some dogs. My Tobey loves his.
7. Give your dog a front row seat to some action-packed, loud special effects, movies.
8. Make sure all of your pets are wearing collars with up-to-date ID tags.
