Effective immediately, I will no longer be taking on new clients, due to personal reasons. This was a hard decision to make, but I feel I owe it to my current clients, some of which are having a hard time scheduling with me due to my diminished scheduling time.

Picture for attention and fun!

I'd like to thank everyone who supported me this last year and a half and have helped me to make my business so successful!! Couldn't have done it without all of you.

Unfortunately, the side effects of being so successful have now begun to appear. At my doctor's advice, I need to slow down and I have also reached the decision to not take any more new clients over 45 pounds.

Please understand that I love grooming and want to continue to do it, so these steps must be taken. It will mean longer wait time to get in to see me, so I'm encouraging all to book their next appointment before leaving their current appointment.

Again, thank you all for your continued support and for letting me beautify your fur babies!!

This little Standard Poodle, Surf, always brings a smile to my face. The other day, I needed it and he knew it. Hopped right into the tub for me! Way to go, Surf! Thanks for the smiles you give me!

These days almost any breed of dog is being mixed with a Poodle. I've groomed several different kinds of "Doodles" over the years. But this week was the first time I've ever even met, much less groomed, an Irish Wolfhound mixed with a Poodle! Meet Tulla! She is just 5 months old, already 45 pounds, very sweet natured, and GORGEOUS! Here's her picture after a light trim. Thanks, mom, for all your training so far with her. She was a gem to work with!

After volunteering many years for 2 rescue groups, I always find my heart opening up to foster homes for any rescue group. When a client reached out to me to groom a foster Goldendoodle, I immediately said "yes". This guy was relatively young, in dire need of a bath and full groom, but was so new to the foster mom that she had no idea how he'd be for a grooming. Needless to say, we proceeded slowly with a meet and greet first to see how he would react to my salon and being up on a table and the buzzing of a clippers. He did beautifully, so we set a date a week and a half out for his full groom. Well, since he needed to be neutered first, his grooming got pushed back 3 weeks. Needless to say, at that point, his coat was too long and matted to have a fluffy cut. This is the before (at home) and after pictures of that sweet boy, Rome. (BTW, foster mom has fallen in love with him and may just adopt him! Don't you love it when they steal our hearts?!!?)

Many dogs are noise sensitive and when drying a dog, groomers love to use what's called a "Force Air Dryer". This is a dryer that has very forceful air coming out of it, as the name implies. It gets down to the skin of the dog and whisks the water away. It gets the dog dry very quickly, but it can be quite loud. So, I have found a GREAT invention called "The Happy Hoodie". Best $14 I ever spent!! It covers the ears of the dog in what looks like a babushka so the noise is muffled. Works great on most dogs and really calms them down. Here are pictures of a Happy Hoodie on 2 of my grooming clients!

I had the pleasure yesterday to bathe a French Bulldog 7 month old puppy, Hershey. Groomers don't see many of these since they are low maintenance, but it sure was fun! I got some "french kisses"!!
Thanks, Joellen, for letting me pamper Hershey! She was a doll!!

Marley is a 1 year old who got behind in grooming due to scheduling issues with his previous groomer. His owner knew he was overdue and matted, and since the hot weather was finally here, asked to have a short, summer cut. Here is his before and after pictures taken by his owner at home. I've been told, Marley is quite happy with his short, summer cut and feels great! See you in a couple months, Marley, for your trim up! Thanks, Steve, for the great pictures!

This is a before and after picture of Scout. She's a 7 month old doodle and this was her first grooming. Knowing that, I had to go very slow and teach her that water, dryers, clippers, scissors, tables, and nail clippers were all things that I needed to expose to her, but that would NOT hurt her. Needless to say, the grooming process took almost 3 hours, but she did beautifully and accepted each new experience after a few minutes of kind, soothing words, lots of lip licking (a calming signal for dogs), and calming touches along with offerings of treats. I'm really fortunate that she did so well with so many new experiences in a relatively short time. She and I will continue to earn trust and groomings will get better and better.

New dog owners, I implore you to start early with your new fur babies, exposing them to something new each day in a positive, happy way. Grow their confidence from day one and you'll end up with a very confident, healthy, stable dog!

Ben, thank you for trusting me with your newest family member and I look forward to grooming her for the rest of her life!

Does your dog have a double coat? If he does, now would be the time to make an appointment to blow all that dead undercoat out! Some people who don't brush their double coated dogs on a regular basis begin to notice what they think are mats in their dog's coat. Many times it is just the undercoat "matting" up because it has loosened and needs to come out. Such was the case for sweet Jabba, pictured above. Jabba was at the Humane Society before his new owner adopted him. The HS shaved his back end, saying there were mats and they had shaved them to make him more presentable for adoption. The new owner, having him only 5 days, called me to bathe him and groom him. They warned me that he may have some mats to shave out, told me the story of his adoption, and told me to do whatever was necessary to beautify him. Well, upon further inspection, I realized he just needed a good bath and blow out. Now, being part Great Pyrenees and part German Shepherd dog (that's what they told the new owner, although I see GP and Collie! LOL), I knew he had a double coat. Sure enough, the force air dryer got down to his skin and blew out all that undercoat that needed to come out, along with a good brushing afterwards. I did trim him up to blend in his coat as good as I could around the shaved areas, but a complete shavedown to match his shaved areas would have ruined his coat and prevented him from keeping cool in the summer. Yes, cool in the summer with all that long hair! Cool air gets trapped near the skin when indoors in AC so that when the dog goes outside into the sun and heat, he stays cool. That's why it's important NOT to shave long, double coated dogs.

Hope you like what I did to freshen up Jabba and I look forward to those shaved areas growing out to show the beautiful boy the way he was meant to be! Thanks, Harper, for bringing Jabba to me to beautify!

Is your pooch bringing in unwanted snow, ice, mud on their paws? I can help! I will clip the nails and closely trim the fur on the underside and in between the pads of their paws so that it will minimalize the amount of dirt coming into your house. Let me know when your pooch needs a spa day!

With the cooler weather, comes flea and tick season. I'd just started washing a dog and low and behold a flea emerged from his fur, on his head. I immediately called the owner and told her and suggested she either treat her other 2 dogs for fleas and ticks, or bring them in for a bath with flea & tick shampoo to rid them of fleas as well. She opted to bring the other 2 in to me and all 3 dogs had fleas. In addition to the flea baths I did on all 3 dogs, she also went home and administered flea & tick medication to all 3 dogs, her cat that goes outdoors, and also decided to wash all dog beds, her bedding, and spray the few area rugs she had in her house.

I think she took the appropriate actions to rid her house of the fleas! So I wanted to share this with all of you following this page to encourage you to watch your precious four legged friends for fleas & ticks and be proactive this time of year.

I was also hyper sensitive to this situation and wiped and sprayed down my entire grooming salon and washed the clothes I was grooming in. She was my last client and I will spray the salon again tomorrow and not groom for an entire day to let the spray do it's work.

Happy FALL, everyone, and let's stay safe, including our furry kids!
