Goodmorning Repo’s community! (Important read!) 🌸
As most of you know, we’re having a baby! In less than 60 days we’ll be bringing home a little girl. This also means I’ll be taking a much needed break from the rescue social media. While we only have a few dogs left in care at the rescue and are not doing active intakes, we have done our best to wind down and really tune in on them to make sure we’re giving them everything they need. Each of the dogs we have at the rescue now are ones we’ve had for a while, so we know exactly what it takes to keep them enriched and fulfilled for summer while I heal up and maintain our family.
This means beach trips, hikes, swimming, long line adventures on our property and lots of play, for our dogs. We have tried our best to get some into foster to ease our workload but things don’t always work out - so here’s where you all come in…
We always have bills at the rescue. Washing their daily linens, bowls, toys, kennels and even them, adds up. We also have gas, flea and tick treatments, vet appointments for updated care and a never ending dumpster bill. Running a rescue isn’t cheap and I make a point to stress about our bills to stay caught up on them. After all, it’s a priority.
I watch a lot of rescues SINK financially with massive bills that don’t get caught up and I won’t put us in that position.
(Ours literally keep me awake at night until I get enough to pay them.) 😅
We’re asking for your help to make a small nest egg for the rescue financially and physically with donations so I can have a peaceful postpartum journey and not have to worry about the care of a newborn for the first few weeks AND be present and active on social media trying to find creative ways to ask for help to pay for the rescue.
Fundraising on social media is difficult when we’re not actively doing intakes and emergency cases. Rescue these days is financially reliant on the “HELP US SOS” trauma posts instead of the wellness and calmness of the animals, that we should be focused on at the end of it all.
The healing. The good stuff. The REST that needs to be promoted more in the rescue world.
There’s a certain peace at our rescue now knowing we have no emergencies, our work is maintenance that brings us joy and we can advocate for adoptions knowing we have supportive donors who appreciate the peace that comes with the end of a rescue, not just the alarming and traumatic beginnings that drive them to donate. These days, helping our community locally, partnering with others and being active in change for Manistee County’s dog laws/rules has also become a priority to me, knowing it’s severely flawed and needs desperate change. We’re still boots on the ground, however that may look these days in the third trimester. I’m still here!
Many people think Repo’s is a whole group, and the reality is we’re a family run operation that does our best. Most of the time, that means not going to bed until 11pm.
We can handle the physical work load, but the peace and quiet of being able to not have to worry about finances when in this last stretch and when we come home would mean everything to us. It’s time to lay down the torch temporarily and focus on our family and our remaining dogs in care so they can have a great summer and you can all see more of them. (We’re also doing Bear Lake Days and other events!) Thanks for your support as always, and wish us luck as we move forward with posting the dogs and working on doing our best for them, with our new little pack member. Have a great weekend everyone! 🖤 If you’re inspired to donate to help us with our nest egg, here’s how! I’ll also be updating our wishlist to focus more on sustainability. Stay tuned!
