Wednesdays are for the dogs... German Shepherd Dogs! Nelli graduates her puppy obedience class today and her older sisters are learning well, too. Though she may be one of the most laid back puppies ever, her owners have still put a lot of time and dedication into her training. She has learned so much over the past five weeks!

Chapter 1: "Humans, We Have Problem"

Dear Mission Control Center,

Ah, humans, we have a problem here... 91 days into my mission at the ARL of Marshalltown, I seem to have forgotten the reason for my mission. I arrived here to do something REALLY important under the guise of being a 'stray,' but alas the reason escapes me. So, I regret to inform you that I am ready to return to the mundane dog life on Earth. The circuit boards on my rocket are fried, therefore I am unsure how long it will take me to get back and find a loving home on my current trajectory. If you could start searching for a home for me, I'd be much obliged. I have put together a personal dossier about myself – if you could send it out to the American public I'd be happy to share a bone with you!

Thanks from Outer Space,

Apollo

UPDATE: Sox has been adopted!

Meet Sox, the three-month-old, sweeter than sugar, baby girl. Sox was recently surrendered to the Animal Rescue League of Marshalltown and is now looking for her perfect home. She loves people, dogs, and kids and is full of life and curiosity. Her feisty spirit got her into some trouble in her previous home, but being only a few short months into puppyhood, it’s not something a little basic training can’t fix.

Every puppy goes through the same basic developmental stages and right now, Sox is in the juvenile period, meaning she has already developed her motor skills and is reacting more to her environment. This period of her life is critical for developing fears, alert behaviors, SOCIAL REINFORCEMENTS, object and environmental exploring, and maximum learning.

Remember – puppies jump, nip, chew, potty in the house, and get into things they shouldn’t. Puppies should not be an impulse buy, just because they’re adorable. BUUUUT… they’re also so rewarding. You get to raise this adorable fluff ball and watch her grow into am amazing dog. So, if you think a puppy is right for you, go check out Sox at the Marshalltown ARL (641-753-9046)!

P.S. if you are thinking of giving up your puppy or dog for behavioral reasons, please reach out to me. My goal is to keep families together and keep dogs out of the shelters and I am here help.

That is so great!

The Rocky Report
Chapter Four: ADOPTED!!

Hi Humans,

I just wanted to share with you all that I have been ADOPTED! I am over the moon and could not be happier to finally have my forever home! Before I left, I was thinking… I know you humans are stuck indoors because of this virus thing and are having to socially isolate – and though I’m officially done with that lonely life style, I know my human readers still have a while to go. I thought I’d share some last-minute tips in my final video of how to cope with the isolation.

But first, did you know that dogs are great for your health? We’ve been proven to help lower blood pressure, reduce risk for heart disease, boost serotonin levels (happy hormone), and keep you active and going outdoors. Dogs can help give you a purpose – a reason to put on your shoes in the morning – so go check out the Marshalltown ARL and see who else needs a forever home!

The Rocky Report
Chapter One: A Taste of Freedom

Dear Humans,

Today, I left the Marshalltown Animal Rescue League for the first time in 368 days! A dog trainer came to the shelter to play ball with me and I was so excited. After a while, I thought we were done playing, but instead she put a leash on me and took me to her car. I got to go to Conrad where ran around on a small acreage, chasing birds and squirrels and I even got my own bully stick (chew), which I buried for safekeeping.

We also went on an hour long walk around Conrad so I’m tired, but I’d go for another walk, if you want. I am working on my leash manners so whoever adopts me can take me on nice long walks. While we were out, I ran into some people in town, which was pretty cool. I also ran into some other dogs, but I don’t like them very much. I met an American Bulldog today who tolerated me pretty well, but my hormones run pretty high and I was told ‘no’ a lot, so for now, I think a solo dog home is best for me.

While the people here are great, I can’t wait to find my own forever home. To make me more adoptable, they found me a trainer, but I’m hoping you can help me, too! Here’s some more information about me:

- Age: 3
- Breed: Rottweiler mix
- Energy level: high
- So far, I know: sit and come
- I’m working on: Heel
- I like: toys and belly rubs
- I love: treats
- Personality highlight: Derpy smile

If you want to meet me, you can catch me walking around Conrad in the near future. I’ll be the one wearing an Adopt Me bandana. Come say hi – my leash is 6ft long so I’m taking free ear rubs.
