🐾 Adoption Update 🐾 Rufus and Wednesday were always good buddies in their foster home. Rufus got adopted, and a little while later it turned out the family decided they just needed another cat 🐱 and Wednesday was still looking for a home. They quickly became the best of buds again! And we couldn’t be happier! This duo just keeps getting cuter ❤️ We are so happy they ended up together and became family with such amazing adopters!

Kitten season doesn’t seem to really ever end in Arizona 🐈 although we get a slightly slower wave in the winter months, but now kitten season is about to ramp back up and hit us in full force!

We already have several tiny babies in our care. Right now veterinary students are giving them love and care around the clock to help them grow big and strong. 💪

We also wanted to do a reminder to Don’t Kit-nap Kittens! Our instincts when stumbling upon newborn kittens is often that we need to scoop them up and get them somewhere warm and safe; however most of the time the mom is away hunting and will return soon. Kittens have the best chance of survival when with their moms (unless the kittens are sick/injured needing medical attention). We love Pesto and Balsamic, but also know they would have had better chances if they were able to stay with their mom instead of with us even though we give them our all.

Found kittens? Do not bring them to a shelter - instead, wait for mom to return first! If she does not return for 8 hours (or if the kittens are sick or injured), let’s work together to help them! 🐱 Adoption Update 🐱 Persephone came to us back in 2021 after a community member found her abandoned at a construction site in New River. Luckily the community member got her to safety and into a foster home with us where she ended up being one of our favorite types of adoption - which we jokingly call a “Foster Fail” 😝 meaning her foster fell so much in love with her she couldn’t give her up. Her foster home turned into her forever home. 🏡 Persephone is thriving with her adopted brother Nitrous (they absolutely adore each other as you can see in the photos ❤️).

Recently our pups got a special treat from Joytale ❤️🐾 SOUL Fosters and SOUL Alumni loved their new enrichment items, leashes and adorable sweaters! We are so thankful for a community that supports our program and makes saving and enriching these pets lives possible.

✨ Foster Feature ✨ Wallaby is an adorable fella. He was born with deformed forelimbs and EXTRA toe beans! His abnormalities do not slow him down in the slightest though and he still scales the cat tree all the way to the top. He loves observing from his 6ft post. He is a quiet man, who wants attention on his terms- he will let you know when he needs the attention and when he would rather just relax alone. He needs a bit of a slow introduction to other cats in the home so he can feel most comfortable. He is not a huge fan of dogs. He wouldn’t mind being the only the pet in the home either if that means he can be the king of the house.

He is estimated to be 4.5 years old (as of 1/2024) (Estimated birthdate is 08/23/2019) and is:

Meet Pumpkin! 🎃 We think she is a rottie-corgi mix. She weighs about 40 pounds (but she is a bit overweight). Pumpkin is a silly, sweet, happy girl who is not slowed down by her joints! She has a luxating patella and mild hip dysplasia. Her joints are likely the result of poor breeding practices, but her condition can be relatively easily well managed. She does have intermittent lameness - this lameness is caused by her patella (knee cap) popping out place, which causes her to then skip/hop to “kick” it back into place. This doesn’t appear to be painful for her, just more awkward looking than anything haha. She recovers quickly and then is back to trotting on her thick but short legs! She may not ever be a marathon runner, but she can happily enjoy a normal dog life and would love to be your couch potato buddy. There are surgical options to repair/stabilize the knee caps; however our veterinarians have come to the conclusion that the best course of action at this time would actually be weight loss (as she is a bit chunky and a lean body weight would take pressure off her joints helping her mobility) and joint supplements to support her joint health as she is not severely affected (she is using the leg well the majority of the time and there is no muscle loss) and she is not painful. She isn’t phased by her knee and even hops up easily on to the couch for snuggles. She is super sweet, loves to give kisses and cuddle. And she is even very well behaved for car rides. Looking for for the perfect cuddle buddy? Look no further! Lola's photos might convince you into thinking she's a large breed, but don't be fooled - she's just a pint sized pup (around 30 pounds!) whose favorite pastime is cuddling. Our favorite things about her is the way she instantly melts into everyone's arms and her quirky little tail that does the cutest wag and butt shake when she's excited. Lola has a knack for making instant friends, whether they're two-legged or four and she loves her dog and cat friends equally! She enjoys napping, sunbathing, and going out on walks and is looking for someone to match her mellow energy.

Lola is crate trained and is working on her potty training, but has been a fast learner! She has a food allergy, which requires her to be on a strict diet, but is a perfectly healthy and happy pup as long as she remains on her special hydrolyzed protein kibble (which she always gobbles up quickly).

Lola is about 10 months old (estimated birthday of 4/11/23) (as of 2/24) and is:

This cutie is looking for her forever home. She came in as a stray puppy so we are not sure what her breed makeup is, given she’s only 8pounds, we are assuming she’s a small breed mix but can make no guarantees on how she’ll grow!

Penelope is the star of the show in her foster home. She is spunky, happy, and a little snuggle bug with all of her foster siblings. She’s always in the mood to play and is go-go-go. She’d make a great companion to most homes looking for an energetic pup! She’s currently working on potty training and is getting the hang of it quickly but will need continued training in her new home.

She is spayed and up to date on her vaccinations for her age. She has done great in her foster home, making friends with dogs and cats- she would likely do well with your furry family members with a slow introduction!

Animal rescue takes more than a village - it takes a network of warm hearts, open arms, and willing hands ready to dig deep and do the hard work. None of us could do what we do without the love and generosity of our supporters and volunteers, and all of us are when we work as a team: we are so thankful for our transfer partners who have taken in both adult cats and kittens these last few months when we were full, full, FULL to the brim. And as always, we are eternally grateful to our foster families who care for the most vulnerable floofs in the comfort of homes, help to socialize them, keep them healthy, and open up kennels at the shelter. We are always looking for new foster families, including short term fosters who can care for pets already scheduled for transfer - the time commitment is short but the help you can provide us in the journey of these pets is invaluable! These two beautiful puppy girls are looking for their forever homes. Both are spayed and up to date on their vaccinations for their age. Both have done well in their foster home with other dogs and even cats - they would like do well with your furry family members with a slow introduction!

Tipsy(brown puppy) is one of the happiest dogs you'll ever meet! She is on the wobblier side (from a suspected injury at a young age), but it does not slow her down one bit - she just sometimes looks a bit dizzy. She is happy to go out exploring new areas, playing with toys, and also enjoys having a good nap with you.

Sydney Beans(black puppy) is such a character, she loves to run in the yard and play with the other dogs. At the end of a long play session she loves to cuddle up close for some much needed snuggles.

They estimated to be 3 months old (as of 11/2023) and are:

✨Foster Feature ✨This handsome fella is in search of his forever 🏡 home!

Fava Bean is a super social fella! He wants nothing more than endless attention! He is a purr machine and wants to play, cuddle, repeat all day long! He loves to follow his human around the house, keeping close tabs - just to make sure you can't forget about him, as he clearly is the center of the universe. He would love to finally have some friends and family to call his own! He came to us as a tiny bottle baby, grew up big and strong, got a adopted, and is now back with us after his previous family had to make the difficult decision to return him. He hasn't let that jade his view on life though - he is a super happy fella who just wants to be endlessly loved and have as many friends as you can!

✨Foster Feature✨Fin is a super social fella. He wants nothing more than endless attention! He is a purr machine and wants to play, cuddle, repeat all day long! He is a special kitten who was born with a condition known as pectus excavatum - a condition in which the sternum inappropriately grows into the thoracic cavity (chest). This can compress the lungs causing breathing difficulties and exercise intolerance (easily tire out). Luckily Finn has a minor form and isn’t showing any signs! In fact he is a hyper, yet super cuddly fella who has no idea he has some special bones. Swipe to see his radiographs! He has gotten along well with other cats and rabbits in the foster home and even cat-friendly dogs with a slow introduction. He also thinks your shoulder is the perfect place to perch. SOUL is partnering with Best Friends Animal Society for the sixth National Adoption Weekend happening September 15-17 - THIS WEEKEND! Best Friends Animal Society, and more than 500 shelter and rescue partners have joined together for the national event to help alleviate overcapacity issues shelters across the country are facing. By adopting a dog or cat looking for a loving home, two lives are saved – that of the adopted pet, and another that can now take their space in the shelter/rescue.

Looking for an adorable duo to bring some joy to your life? Look no further than these goof balls - Lily and Luka! These sweethearts originally came to us back in 2021 as kittens - unfortunately they were recently returned due to a personal situation with their previous adopter who had to make the tough decision to return them to make sure they get the care they could no longer provide- we are thankful they asked for help. We welcomed the duo back into our care and we are hoping to find them a new home to cherish their adorable antics. They have been best buds since kittens, so we would love to find them a home together. They can be a bit shy at first, but they warm up pretty quick and then want all of your attention and love. They have gotten along well with other cats and cat-friendly dogs with a slow introduction.

All of these pets are looking for their forever homes, along with about 60 other pets! We need your help to find these pets a family to call their own, so that we can offer that foster home to the next pet in need ❤️ Please share this post!
We also have about 65 additional animals in our fosters homes that are still under going medical care before they will be ready to start their search for a forever home.

Hi everyone, meet Azteca (nickname Teca)! She’s a high energy gal that loves people, dogs and cats! She craves attention and is a HUGE love bug. Teca is looking for an active family that has time to give her the exercise and attention that she needs and loves; however also respect her limitations as she does have a previous knee injury (but she doesn’t let it slow her down). She would love a dog friend to play with at home, but would be fine as the only pet as well. Teca would do best in a home with a yard and someone that can give her some structure. She is crate and potty trained! She knows how to sit, but is still working on learning her basic commands and leash training. Teca is currently on treatment for Valley Fever and requires medication twice a day with her meals, which she gobbled up with no issues.

She is estimated to be 1 year and 3 months old (as of 9/2023) (Estimated birthdate is 06/03/2022) and is:
