Please do not buy. Throw them away if your dog gets one as a gift. Giving rawhide to a dog is never a good idea.

Many of these so called treats end up with the dog "enjoying" some time in a veterinary surgery over Christmas. The vast majority of these rawhide products and treats come from China.

The chews are made from cattle or horse hides and their journey starts with the hides being soaked in a toxic sodium sulfide to remove the hair and fat. More chemicals are used in order to split the hide into layers which is then washed with hydrogen peroxide to give the white "pure" look and remove the rancid smell.

Now comes the pretty festive colors and the glue to form cute shapes. On testing, these chews have shown traces of arsenic, mercury, chromium and formaldehyde.

If that wasn't bad enough, they regularly cause intestinal blockages, poisoning from chemical residue and choking. The chews go slippery when wet and are near impossible to get hold of to save a choking dog.

Meet Mack, an adorable senior brindle Bulldog who was saved just in time by 11th Hour Rescue from a high-kill shelter. And are we ever glad we did! Mack has matured into a calm and loving gentleman who still enjoys the simple pleasures in life. He’s incredibly affectionate, loves to be near his people, and is a quiet companion when left alone.

Though Mack is calmer now, he still loves a good game of fetch with his favorite tennis balls and enjoys walks. He's well-behaved on a leash when out and about and finds pure joy in car rides, rolling around playfully in the backseat.

Mack is housebroken and crate trained, and he also doesn’t mind dressing up for special occasions (even if he does sometimes put on his "worried" face). This sweet boy can get a little overstimulated when excited, so a home with dog-savvy adults and older children would be ideal. He would thrive as the only pet in the home, but does well walking past other dogs in the neighborhood.

Today marks the 23rd anniversary of the 9/11 attacks

We honor the hero's who ran in the direction of danger to help those innocents in perilous danger- those on two legs and four.

Did you know 300 search and rescue dogs were among the hero's that day who ran towards danger? Here is artist Ron Burns illustration of a dog who lost his life on 9/11, Sirius, and his story. Ron tell the stories of countless dogs who alongside their human counterpart, saved countless lives on that fateful day. Many today owe their lives to these fearless working dogs who offered support, comfort and lent their bravery to those in need.

Maui was abandoned- will you give him a new home? 🏡

😁Maui is all smiles now- but when we found him abandoned and suffering from severe fly bites it was a totally different story. 3 year old Maui is making the best of a bad situation and is ready to find his new family! 🐾

🐶Maui is 3 years old- super lovely and friendly personality! He's got charm and charisma! Maui is a lot of dog and comes in hot with excitement when meeting other dogs, so with a proper meet and introduction we think he'd get along with another young dog. Maui is 60lbs of love and excitement, so a family who has older kids would be best for this stud!😍
