Genesis Harness Desense Breakdown- Session 1
As promised, me rambling about what goes on in my head while training Genesis with her new ruffwear harness! 🍪 The end goal is for Genesis to be able to offer putting the harness on herself so I can give her some more agency and choice by allowing her to decide which harness she would like to wear every time we go out! This is session one of desensitization with this particular harness. Genesis does have experience offering putting on collars/harnesses with other gear but as you can see it’s important we start over anytime we get something new so I can ensure she is comfortable and confident in her gear! Genesis, like most Shibas, are gear sensitive so introducing new things can be difficult for her sometimes so we take the slow and steady approach with lots of treats! Jojo Loose Leash Walking
Had a great lesson today with @jojotheservicedog working on some CGC skills and working through Jojo’s adolescent phase! He was very distracted by all the sticks and smells at the park, so we worked through it to building up that focus again. Thankfully Jojo has a great foundation to fall back into, so now it’s just getting back into those basics to help him through this teenage phase!

Can you believe that before this clip Rex didn't even want to put his paws on the playground equipment at all?
Rex is a rescue dog from down south who is facing some anxiety and fearfulness which then leads to reactivity and stress for both Rex and his owners. One important aspect of dealing with a fear reactive and anxious dog is to build up the confidence both in themselves and in their owners. By playing on playground equipment we not only are able to start teaching the dog how to overcome easy obstacles but also increase the dogs trust in their owner. We pair these obstacles with positive reinforcement for a job well done (in Rex's case, cheese cubes 🧀) and we are able to start changing the dog's mindset of the world!

Loose leash with Molly Sue
So very proud of Molly Sue's progress in just a couple walks! 🙌🏼❤
Molly Sue started doing walks with me last week after pulling her owner down and injuring him. She may be small, but she sure is strong and mighty! So we switched her over from her harness to a @k9lifeline.dog slip lead and have been practicing some loose leash and give to pressure skills while out on walks. Now this video may not SEEM like a lot, but she is responding to light pressure on the leash, walking nicely, and most importantly no longer pulling! Comparing this to our first walk last Tuesday and it is huge progress in such a short amount of time! It's amazing what can happen with the right tools and the right handling!

Look At That Game
Remy has been doing so well on out on our walks lately!
This quick clip is a good example of the "Look At That" game. You point out the object the object, wait a second, and reward for their good behaviors! We've been practicing this with the horses in Remy's neighborhood and he is doing so well! He shows interest in the horses, stays calm while observing them, and then comes for his reward when I mark his good behaviors!
This game can be used with any dog, but works especially well with reactive dogs, overexposed dogs, and puppies working on socialization. It is a form of counter conditioning which helps a dogs mindset and feelings over certain things!

Both Caymen and Finnley get a frozen kong with some peanut butter to help them unwind after their walks! As you can tell, both of these little labbies know exactly what to do to get their kongs. Since Caymen is older he's allowed to stay our in the house while home alone, while Finnley knows he should go back to his crate to get his!

Structured Playtime with Remy! 🎾🐕
What is structured play?
It is as simple as it sounds, playtime with structure!
Why do we use structured play? There are a couple reasons! By implementing rules and boundaries into our playtime we help teach dogs how to listen during high excitement moments. We also are teaching them how to be calm on command, versus just be a crazy doggo!
What dogs do we use structured play with?
Typically we suggest structured play for dogs who are high energy, very excitable, and tend to go too crazy during playtime. However, ANY dog can benefit with adding structure into playtime!
Even though we add rules and boundaries into our playtime, the dogs still have so much fun! You can see Remy's tail wagging the entire time as he anticipates the ball being thrown, but he's being the best boy as he waits to be told to go get it! It also helps tire them out even faster since we are making our dogs use both their BRAIN and their BODIES!
Next time you go to play with your dog, try adding in a little structure and see how it goes!
