Also, as tempting as it may be to take a dip in the rivers and lakes, the water temperatures are still very cold so keep that in mind too.

Spent some time at Making Strides Therapeutic Horsemanship, Inc. yesterday offering Reiki to its horses and chatting with its warm and friendly executive director Kim Childs.

Making Strides has a bunch of riding and non-riding therapeutic programs AND they are doing an Easter egg hunt on April 10th at one of their locations - Futia Farms! Check out their page for more details.

We are so very grateful to Jamie at Instinctive Energy for offering her energy work services to our horses!

They all enjoyed some healing Reiki energy through Jamie’s session with them. If you would like to treat your animals to some integrative energy sessions in person or distant, she’s the best!!

I decided to get a video camera and start recording my energy work sessions! A simple way to describe Reiki is that it is like a special type of meditation. It can reduce stress and help horses, other animals, and people to relax.

When I work with horses I stand nearby and offer Reiki to them with my hands at my sides and palms towards them. If they show interest and come over I will put my hands on them to see if they want hands on Reiki, otherwise I will offer it from a distance until they decide to leave or are no longer engaged. That is what I am doing behind the camera.

I have been volunteering at Wayward Ranch Animal Sanctuary the past couple weeks sharing Reiki with horses. 🐴 I have had the privilege to work with a special horse, Montana (formerly Money Game). She is an off-track thoroughbred that won hundreds of thousands on the race track and her current mental and physical issues reflect the tough life she had. My first few sessions with her she was distant and generally uninterested, though once in a while I could tell she was testing the Reiki waters. This week she let her guard down and fully accepted Reiki.

On my first visit this week she said "hello" but didn't stick around for a session. I decided to work on some other horses and see if she would be interested later. When I came back and started the session it took her seconds to close her eyes and her head drooped to the ground. She was so relaxed she struggled to keep standing and breathed deeply. Her pasture mate came over from behind a shelter and laid down close to us to soak up the Reiki too. After maybe 20 minutes she came to and walked to the center of the pasture to process the energy. A deeply moving experience for me!

Today she accepted more Reiki without reservations and completely relaxed. I look forward to working more with her, the other horses, and the wonderful staff at Wayward Ranch Animal Sanctuary. You can check out her story and video complete with racing clips below.

How we describe our horses....
How we describe our volunteers....
How we describe our students....
How we describe our coworkers....
How we describe ourselves....
....can impact how we view and interact with individuals (2 and 4 footed) and situations.

Be aware of your words and if they set you (and others) up for positive or negative interactions.

Often chronic health problems in dogs and cats can be tied to emotional and mental issues.

Usually traditional veterinary care mostly focuses on physical healing and for some animals this is not enough, leaving them with tough to treat conditions.

Reiki can be helpful in these situations because it does its healing work at the physical, emotional, and mental levels.
