The power of recognition can go far – from a simple “thank you” to an “I wouldn’t have been able to do this without you” – it’s important to recognize those around us. We are fortunate to have so many names come to mind at CoxHealth.

Working in health care can be a tiring, sometimes challenging job. Our 700 West Medical Oncology department wanted to find a way to lift spirits and acknowledge the award-winning care our colleagues give each day.

The team came together and created their own employee recognition program, ‘7 Westies Besties,’ with the goal of cultivating interdepartmental relationships and appreciation across our hospital system. Every month, an employee from another department or volunteer is recognized for their hard work and collaboration with the 700 West team.

Becoming one of the ‘7 Westies Besties’ creates an environment of appreciation within CoxHealth. Although it takes all departments to run a hospital, some teams may never get to cross paths. The ‘besties’ are a way of saying, “You can always count on us.”

Riley Paige, a 700 West Medical Oncology department nurse manager, helped jumpstart the program. “It is easier to care for our patients if our departments have strong relationships that are in sync with one another,” Riley says.

Since the beginning of their recognition program, the ‘7 Westies Besties’ has grown to reach various departments throughout our health system. Teams such as EVS, volunteers, PT, Hospitality services, HR and many others have been touched by the gratitude of 700 west.

The award is given monthly and any employee can submit a name be honored and join in on the fun. Teams will then vote on who will be the winner of that month.

“CoxHealth employees do great things every day but may not always receive the departmental recognition they deserve,” Riley says.

Ann, one of our volunteers, received the recognition with her therapy dog, Finn, this month. “We’ve been with CoxHealth for a year now. Every time we walk into the room, people start smiling. It’s my favorite place to volunteer,” Ann says.

The award winner receives a custom card, a gift of an Andy’s Frozen Custard gift card and a customized ‘7 Westies Besties’ pin that can proudly be displayed on their name badge (or their therapy dog badge).

Keep an eye out for one of our ‘besties’ and never be shy to thank them for their hard work!
