Cold weather is coming and here are a few tips to help reduce the cold stress on our animals.

- Try to keep them dry and out of the wind as best as possible. When cattle are cold and wet it drastically increases their energy/feed requirements. Utilize structure and wood lines as wind breaks. Remember hay piles will cause them to be wet and muddy.

- Feed good quality hay and supplement with Soy hulls, corn, cottonseed, or commercial blends.

- Lactating or thin cows are going to need more supplementation than cows with a body condition score of 5-6.

- Feeding in the afternoon. Rumination helps with heat production and will help get them through the night.
