As many of you know, we didn't open our online doors for the 2023 shipping season. The reason was simple - we've added Coral Magazine to Aquatic Media Press, so now you can find both CORAL and Amazonas Magazine under one umbrella again! That transition took every spare moment I had since May of 2023, and I am just about to wrap it up and maybe take a breath again. This has me thinking about what MiniWaters.FISH might do in 2024. So, what are you all keeping/growing/wanting these days? Be sure to shop www.aquaticmediapress.com where you can get all things CORAL and AMAZONAS, back issues and subscriptions!

The timing sucks, as our 2022 fish-shipping window is already nearly closed based on our winter temps. However we are thrilled to announce that we have 120 Minnesota-bred Pseudomugil cyanodorsalis in the fishroom after a multi-year hiatus! They will go through our standard quarantine period, wholesale customers will get the first crack, and then we'll put what's left out for retail sale. If this is a species you've been hunting for with no luck, get on the waitlist. We will also be adding Pseudomugi ivanstoffi, a new species for us!

Pseudomugil cyanodorsalis, the Neon Blueeye or Blueback Blueeye Rainbowfish, is one of those rare, arcane Rainbowfishes that I think most of us only dream about, so when the opportunity came around to make them more available to the hobby and trade, I absolutely jumped at it. This is a schooling fis...

Winter is slowly retreating, but we still have feet of snow here! Overnight Shipping is an option most days now, and 2-3 day ground options will return once overnight lows are 40F! At some point, I'll get around to revamping the retail inventory on MiniWaters.FISH, but there is always so much more available than the time it takes to create new web products!

For your enjoyment: Streptocarpus 'Snow Bunny'. Minis like this seem to do quite well in entirely enclosed conditions, and so you'll see limited offerings of them this year. As always, wholesale customers get first crack at what's new or in low supply! Support your &

We get to do some pretty amazing stuff at my day job at Coral Magazine and I have to share this with all the MiniWaters fans and customers. This is your shot at a free coral frag from Carolina Aquatics worth hundreds, long before anyone else will have access to this new cultivar, plus a three-year subscription to coral. See the rest of the post for details, please share the love (yes, I realize fewer entries mean better chances for you, but come on...think of your fellow reefkeepers, and may the best name win!)

Hemianthus micranthemoides is also known to aquarists as Micranthemum micranthemoides and now also Hemianthus glomeratus and most recently Micranthemum glomeratus! In the aquarium trade it is further known as Pearl W**d and Baby Tears or Pearl Grass...so many names for a small and versatile stem pla...

OK, last new plant for the night - Selaginella wallichii (although it appears it might have also been traded as S. plana?). Either way, a bigger, more upright spikemoss! http://miniwaters.fish/shop/vivarium-life/vivarium-plants/ferns-and-mosses/selaginella-wallichii/

Selaginella wallichii (sometimes misspelled as Selaginella wallichi) is a spikemoss native to China and several countries in Southeast Asia. This is one of the spikemosses actually being distributed mainly into the aquarium hobby via aquarium plant producers but is not an aquatic plant. Whether thei...

Another new plant on the site! Selaginella sp. "Indonesia". This one happens to not be cultured in-house, but from the aquarium trade for terrarium/paludarium applications! Really, an excellent vivarium plant option - http://miniwaters.fish/shop/vivarium-life/vivarium-plants/ferns-and-mosses/selaginella-sp-indonesia/

Selaginella sp. "Indonesia": There isn't much to go on for this particular cultivar of Spikemoss, as it's actually being distributed mainly into the aquarium hobby via aquarium plant producers! It is safe to assume that this variety probably originates from somewhere in Indonesia and likes the same....

On the "kicking myself for not ordering more" list, check out Anubias "Minima"! Beautiful smooth, undulating leaves that come to a sharp point! Modest size. Tough as nails. Everything you want in a low light aquarium (or vivarium!) plant! http://miniwaters.fish/shop/freshwater-live/plants/anubias-barteri-var-glabra-minima-minima-anubias/

The Minima Anubias is sometimes listed as the erroneous species Anubias minima, but in reality, it is a cultivar of Anubias barteri var. glabra that features beautiful, elongated wavy leaves that come to a sharp point. As with all in the genus, they are low light, easy-care, and can be grown both ab...

A classic Anubias that needs no real introduction, the Dwarf or Nana Anubias, aka. Anubias barteri var. nana, is available now at MiniWaters: http://miniwaters.fish/shop/freshwater-live/plants/anubias-barteri-var-nana-dwarf-anubias/

The Dwarf Anubias is sometimes listed as Anubias nana, but in reality, it is a small-leaved cultivar of Anubias barteri. As with all in the genus, they are low light, easy-care, and can be grown both above and below the water (although generally thought of as aquarium plants). Don't bury the rhizome...

My mission? List all the Anubias, tonight. So many names for "Anubias congensis", but it's always the same plant! Really lovely...this is one I think I want to always have in stock if I can! http://miniwaters.fish/shop/freshwater-live/plants/anubias-sp-congensis/

Regardless of what you call it, the Congensis Anubias is most noteworthy, in my opinion, for its finely veined lance-shaped leaves, almost feather-like in appearance. As with all in the genus, they are low light, easy-care, and can be grown both above and below the water (although generally thought....

Aquarium plants are slowly being added to the MiniWaters.fish lineup. Tonight's new product is potted "Coffeefolia" Anubias! http://miniwaters.fish/shop/freshwater-live/plants/anubias-barteri-var-coffeefolia-coffee-leaved-anubias/

Also known as Anubias coffefolia or Anubias barteri 'Coffeifolia', this variety bears attractive deep green leaves that are rippled, unlike many other Anubias. As with all in the genus, they are low light, easy-care, and can be grown both above and below the water (although generally thought of as a...

Hammering through the backlog of great plants that have never made it to the website, today's is the somewhat challenging Begonia sp. "Maldonado". This is the "easiest" of the Gobenias types, all small-leaved, vining and trailing and rambling Begonias that require vivarium conditions to thrive. Starting with this one might be a good idea before you try one of the more challenging/less forgiving varieties!
http://miniwaters.fish/shop/vivarium-life/vivarium-plants/begonias/begonia-sp-maldonado/

There are a few Gobenia section Begonias in the vivarium hobby, and Begonia sp. "Maldonado" is considered to be one of the easiest and most resilient. It is unclear where it originates from; most information online suggests Ecuador; the city of Pedro Vicente Maldonado may be near the location from w...

Whether you call it Peacock Spikemoss, Rainbow Spikemoss, Blue Spikemoss, or something else, Selaginella uncinata is the gateway drug into this genus of amazing terrarium plants. Highly recommended for those wanting "mosses" but maybe something a bit easier to maintain than actual true mosses. And we have some available, finally got around to adding them to the website after cultivating them since 2017!

so

Also known as Blue Spikemoss, Blue Moss, Rainbow Spikemoss, Rainbow Moss, the color of Selaginella uncinata varies in a wide range from green to iridescent blue but also rose to bronze hues. It grows well, and low to the substrate at times, making it a good groundcover in the vivarium. It is a nativ...

Another new plant available: Hemiboea bicornuta. This came as a gift, has proven to do well in our vivarium-type culture, and is anything but commonplace. Relatives are just making their way into the gardening hobby in more moderate climates as well. White tube flowers that have purple spots, not to mention purple spots on the stems of the plant. Can grow to heights of anywhere from 6 to 18 inches, depending on the references.

Will you be daring enough to try one in your vivarium? We've only made a handful available, and started propagating the next small generation.

http://miniwaters.fish/shop/vivarium-life/vivarium-plants/foliage/hemiboea-bicornuta/

Hemiboea bicornuta is a somewhat rare gesneriad that was gifted to us to try out, so for now, availability is limited. A native of Taiwan, reportedly from damp mountain slopes, it has proven forgiving and somewhat vigorous in culture. This is a potentially larger plant, which will reportedly reach h...

Cryptoheros cutteri is a beautiful Central American cichlid native to Honduras and Guatemala; other references suggest it might also be found in Belize and/or El Salvador. It may be confused with the "other" Blue-eye Cichlid, Cryptoheros spilurus, but is a bit more colorful. Vaguely similar to a "Co...

Been a while since I've had new fish to add to the site! This may be a one-time offering as they were shipped as filler by the Colombian exporter. Mylossoma sp. "Silver Dollar". Selling as a group of 10, only. Something that will get big and different than what you're used to seeing. Species is up for debate: http://miniwaters.fish/shop/freshwater-live/fish-freshwater-live/tetras/mylossoma-sp-silver-dollar/

These arrived here as Mylossoma duriventre, which is a less commonly encountered "Silver Dollar" type of characin also known as a Silver Mylossoma, and various names including "Pacu". Other indentifications have been placed on these fish, including Mylossoma aureum, which is very similar to M. diriv...

New day, new plant (trying to be better with the backlog of varieties not on the website). Today, it's Pearcea hypocyrtiflora! Check out those amazing leaves! The blooms are spectacular too! Limited availability at the moment, as we're letting most grow out more!
http://miniwaters.fish/shop/vivarium-life/vivarium-plants/foliage/pearcea-hypocyrtiflora/

so shop !

Pearcea hypocyrtiflora is an uncommon gesneriad that has amazingly textured eaves with brightly contrasting veins. There are multiple color variants in the hobby; ours is one that has veins that, in our experience, start out whitish and turn to pink under good light with age. In our cultural conditi...

We don't carry or sell Marimo Moss Balls, but maybe you've bought some recently. If so, they could have concealed a very sinister hitchhiker.

Invasive zebra mussels (Dreissena polymorpha) have now been confirmed as contaminants in marimo moss balls in at least seven states. It appears that contaminated marimo balls were imported from Ukraine, and distributed to pet shops nationwide.
