Aster, now known as Biscuit, is a senior goldendoodle who came to us last year shut down and needing a lot of TLC from her foster family. After 2 months in foster care, she found her people. We recently heard from them and are thrilled at the pupdate!

"She came to us almost 1 year ago!!We had a few hiccups in the beginning, but I'll never regret sticking by her. She is THE best girl. Happy, polite, patient & loving.
She adores her Dad, I think she is actually IN LOVE with him 😆
She greets everyone with a wagging tail & needs to be pet by everyone in the room.
But she truly has found her best friend in our Frenchie Banks. They play, snuggle, and Biscuit has really learned how to be a dog from her.
Thank you North Paw for what you do!"

Happy tails, sweet girl!

Thank you to all who have ROC'd with us today for ! Your support means the world to us and to the animals we help. Our last story of the day is going to be Benny. Now, who remembers Benny? He has been a big part of many of our hearts for most of the year.

This distinguished gentleman has had quite the ride. Benny came to us as a fluffy 12-week-old Golden Retriever puppy straight from a breeder. Right away, we noticed something was wrong. Benny wouldn’t eat, would vomit, felt dizzy, or couldn’t stand—this is not typical puppy behavior. We jumped into action with testing, but the first vet visit didn’t give us answers, so we kept pushing forward. The blood work revealed signs of a possible liver shunt, and that’s when the real journey began.

Benny was diagnosed with an extrahepatic portosystemic shunt, a congenital liver disorder in dogs where an abnormal blood vessel bypasses the liver, allowing toxins to circulate in the body. The diagnosis wasn’t easy, but we were determined to help him. His amazing foster mom took him to emergency care to speed up the process, and we quickly found a clinic willing to perform his surgery.

Since then, Benny has had multiple vet visits, blood work, two surgeries, and plenty of ups and downs. But through it all, he spread love wherever he went and eventually found his forever family. Benny will need medication for the rest of his life, but his family loves him deeply, and we couldn’t be happier with this happy ending.

We contributed $14,600 toward Benny's care, but the true reward is the experience, teamwork, and joy we feel seeing him loved and loving. Our chosen family stepped up once again to lend a hand and save a life. Thank you for being part of this incredible journey!

Vanna, a mini poodle, was rescued by North Paw Rescue after spending her entire 7 years of life being bred over and over. Like most puppy mill survivors, she was very scared of everything in this new world. She hid and shook in fear her first few days in her foster home. Following a decompression period, she started to allow pets, and eventually belly rubs. The foster’s resident dog helped to get her to explore more of the house and yard. The key to winning Vanna’s heart was yummy snacks. She quickly picked up on going potty outside. Though still very timid she was improving daily, and started the search for her forever home.

Vanna is now Rosie. She has a caring and loving mom and an affectionate and patient big brother Rigby. Rosie has blossomed with her new family. She enjoys daily walks, cuddles and lots of petting. If you stop, she will paw you to start petting her again. When her mom’s alarm clock goes off, she will lick her mom’s nose to make sure she is awake. Rosie and Rigby also have outfits for almost every holiday! Rosie hit the jackpot and has shown such resilience with her furever family.

Some are lucky enough to get better looking as they age. Rayne nailed it don't you think? Well, as often happens, one of our board members went down a rabbit hole one night looking at dogs in need. This girl was in Miami, so we will say a long rabbit hole. She was found on the streets of Miami, dragging her legs behind her, severely emaciated, with sores and cuts all over her body and found to have pyometra. They guessed her age to be roughly 10-12 years old. Calls were made, questions asked, transport set up...honestly people came together from all over once it was known that this girl had somewhere to go. It happened so fast, and then Rain was here. Rainy Day came with a lot of issues. Some were immediate and easy to fix, others not so much.

She was spayed and given antibiotics for her pyometra. Although resolved, the upper respiratory infection she was also battling almost won. Her body was beat but her spirit was NOT. She overcame that obstacle. Rain-1, illness-0.

What she could not seem to overcome was the consistent failure of her rear end. At the conclusion of one of her many veterinary visits it was discovered that the issue was neurological not injury related. Due to severe trauma sustained to her head (we all know what that means), she could not send signals telling her body what to do. It is somewhat like turning on the lights but there is a faulty wire between the switch and bulb. Some days the switch worked but more often it did not. She became completely incontinent because of it. Did this ever hold her back??? NEVER. Her favorite thing to this day is a tennis ball, especially a moving one. The beauty and spirit inside this dog is something we can all hope to achieve. All she wanted was love and a tennis ball. Maybe a wardrobe as well but that is probably more her foster mom's idea. Ok, and a photoshoot with Lucabear & Friends Pet Photography

This little man, Spot, came to us as an owner surrender with his sister, weighing just under five pounds at 12 weeks old. At first glance, his calm demeanor and love of napping seemed sweet, but it quickly became clear that something was very wrong. Despite being a voracious eater, Spot would regurgitate his meals within minutes, unable to keep anything down.

Initially, we suspected megaesophagus, a condition that, while serious, is often manageable with a special chair to keep the dog upright during digestion. But as we got to know Spot, it became increasingly clear that this wasn’t the answer. His symptoms were more severe, and his inability to thrive pointed to something more complex.

We tried everything—slow feeders, small meals, even blending his food into smoothies—but nothing helped. It was time to seek answers.

Spot was brought to one of our trusted veterinary partners for an ultrasound. The initial diagnosis was heartbreaking but not definitive: Persistent Right Aortic Arch (PRAA), a rare condition where a fetal blood vessel fails to regress after birth. This abnormality constricts the esophagus, making it nearly impossible for food to pass through. Spot showed all the telltale symptoms: regurgitation, stunted growth, and labored breathing.

Faced with this grim possibility, we urgently began the search for a specialist who could perform the necessary CT scan to confirm the diagnosis and, hopefully, surgery to save Spot’s life.

Against the odds, hope arrived! The CT scan confirmed our fears, but we found a specialist ready to act quickly. Spot underwent surgery, and the results were nothing short of miraculous. Today, he is a thriving, energetic, twenty-pound ball of joy.
Spot’s journey wasn’t easy—or cheap. His medical care totaled $9,600, but when you meet him, it’s clear it was worth every penny. We couldn’t imagine turning our backs on this sweet soul when he needed us most, and thanks to this life-saving surgery, Spot now has the chance to live the full, happy life he so deserves.

Tennessee is a 9-month-old Lab mix who literallyflew into our care from Ohio, pregnant and battling Lyme disease and Ehrlichiosis. Despite her rough start, she has shown incredible resilience, and her story is a testament to the power of teamwork and love.

When Tennessee arrived, she was visibly uncomfortable, so we scheduled an ultrasound. We were told she likely had another week before labor, but the very next morning, she showed signs of distress and needed an emergency cesarean. Tragically, three puppies did not survive, but seven healthy puppies made it through.

That same night, her foster took Tennessee and her pups home, as no medical staff were available overnight to monitor them. Because she had been unconscious for the delivery, Tennessee hadn’t yet met her pups, and her milk supply hadn’t come in. Two volunteers worked tirelessly to bottle-feed the puppies while helping Tennessee bond with them as she became more alert.

Soon, Tennessee’s milk came in, and her natural motherly instincts kicked in. She stepped into her role as a nurturing mom, and the puppies are thriving under her care.

At just a week and a half old, these puppies owe their survival to an incredible network of people: shelter staff who got her to safety, transport coordinators and pilots who flew her to us, the veterinary team who saved her life, and the dedicated fosters who ensured her pups’ health.

Tennessee’s journey is a beautiful reminder of how many hands come together to save lives. Thanks to this collective effort, she and her pups now have a bright future ahead. 💕

We remember our sweet girl, Falco, whose time with us was far too short but filled with so much love. Falco came into our care with so much promise, but her fragile 6-pound frame struggled to withstand the numerous medical challenges she faced. She arrived to North Paw Rescue from a puppy mill and needed dental work, a long decompression period, and blood work. Once she was feeling better, she quickly deteriorated and was hit with severe anemia and zinc toxicity after ingesting a foreign object—suspected to be a penny that had disintegrated in her stomach. The first of many hurdles she faced was the urgent need for a blood transfusion and emergency endoscopy to remove the toxic object. The dedicated veterinary team at Veterinary Medical Center of Central New York worked tirelessly to stabilize her, and she seemed to be on the mend.
Unfortunately, despite overcoming that initial crisis, Falco’s journey remained fraught with complications. Her lab work remained unstable, suggesting a likely liver shunt, and her gastrointestinal issues persisted. Her body simply couldn’t handle what it was up against. Further surgeries and treatments were required, but her small body, already weakened by one battle after another, couldn’t take any more. After months of struggling, the time came to say goodbye. Falco’s fosters surrounded her with love and comfort in her final moments, giving her the peace she deserved.
Falco’s story is a heartbreaking reminder that while every dog that comes into foster care is loved and cared for, not all journeys end the way we hope. Despite the best efforts of her veterinary team, her fosters, and our rescue community, sometimes the toll of illness is too great for a tiny body to bear. But even though her time was short, Falco knew love, safety, and care in her final months. She will always hold a special place in our hearts, and we will continue to fight for the next dog who needs us, no matter the outcome. Thank you to everyone who stood by Falco, for your love, support, and belief in her, right until the very end. ❤️

Luca (formerly Evan) came to us from a puppy mill during a severe cold snap last winter. He had been living in an uninsulated contractor trailer, and was nearly frozen to the floor.

When we arrived to pick him up, Luca was carried out by the breeder - he was too matted to stand or walk on his own. You could hardly make out his eyes and mouth from the overgrown fur, and he was completely shut down.

Our amazing president and grooming expert, Stacy, was able to get him in the following morning to remove the layers of filth and mats. Luca emerged from the puppy salon with a hesitant smile and a twinkle in his eye, and we knew he’d be just fine.

After a short time in foster care, Luca found the perfect forever home with two amazing dads. Their love, patience, and perseverance have paid off, and Luca has come out of his shell tremendously.
