WOW BOW WOW-Dog Trainer & Behavior Consultant Hello Fellow Dog Lovers! I'm Linda the dog trainer. I help dog parents raise well-mannered dogs. I grew up with dogs and live with several now, Danny and Jill.
(3)

But Jack is the one who opened my world to fostering and other pursuits to help other dogs in need. When you tell me that you feel overwhelmed and exhausted about what you are dealing with, I know what you mean. Jack was a over-reactive dog that I could not keep under threshold when other people came up to us. I realized Jack was not the only dog with these issues, which brought me to what I love

doing now----To help the other Jacks in the world so you can have a less stressful life. We also focus on helping pet parents with new puppies start their journey on the right paw. We want to help them avoid the typical mistakes so we are not called in later to help with behavior modification for pulling like a train on walks, biting and chewing, barking at anyone at the door, jumping on people, barking and lunging at other dogs and people, and many more issues. We can help with personalized training in your home or through interactive online classes. Both options have opportunities to practice in real life scenerios in different Costa Mesa locations. Thank you for visiting Wow Bow Wow! You are an amazing pet parent to come here looking for answers, solutions & support. Let's chat about your dog and how we can help. Call/text us at 714.794.9625

Think big dogs need tough training? Think again! 💪

It's a common misconception that large breed dogs, particularly working breeds, need harsh training methods. But the truth is, gentle, positive reinforcement techniques are incredibly effective.

By rewarding good behavior and creating a positive learning environment, you can build a strong bond with your dog, no matter their size or breed. Guardians of Oreo, Bronco, Amber & Leo chose to build amazing relationships with their dogs as they trained together.

I’m pretty sure you want to raise a well-mannered dog and enjoy a positive relationship with your family member. Harsh training methods can lead to fear, anxiety, and aggression. Let’s ditch the outdated methods and embrace modern, effective training!

Here are a few reasons why some might believe that harsher methods are necessary for training larger working dogs:

1. Misconception of Dominance: An outdated belief is that dogs need to be dominated or shown who's "alpha" to be obedient. This can lead to harsh training methods, especially with larger, more powerful breeds.

2. Fear of Losing Control: Some people may worry that they won't be able to control a large, strong dog, so they resort to forceful methods to establish dominance.

3. Historical Practices: Traditional training methods for working dogs, particularly those used in specific professions like herding or guarding, often involved harsher techniques. These methods have been passed down through generations, and some people may still believe they are necessary for their family dogs too.

4. Misunderstanding of Breed Characteristics: Some breeds are naturally energetic and have strong personalities. People may mistake these traits for aggression or disobedience and use harsh methods to try to "break" the dog's spirit.

However, modern dog training emphasizes positive reinforcement and gentle, consistent training methods. These methods are effective for all dogs, regardless of size or breed.

AND you can have fun getting to know each other as you train together!!

Amber's Journey--2024Nov

Address reactivity by addressing the dog's emotional response, by helping them change how they feel about their triggers.

It's not about demanding them to shut up and sit. That only shuts down the dog

And for some dogs, it takes time--for some months or maybe longer. We set them up to succeed and start at the level they can handle and incrementally increase the difficulty. We intentionally do not put them in situations they can't handle well.

With Amber, she is able to calmly watch another dog with the right amount of distance from the other dog. I have faith in her that over time she will close the gap and be less stressed about seeing another dog.

Start where your dog can succeed and be patient with them.

They say Rome wasn't built in a day. . .

🐶 Happy Thanksgiving! Wishing You A Paw-sitive Holiday!

As you gather with loved ones to celebrate Thanksgiving, remember to keep your pup safe and happy. Here are a few tips:

Watch the Feast: While it's tempting to share a bite with your pup, many Thanksgiving foods can be harmful. Avoid giving them:
Turkey skin and bones
Gravy
Mashed potatoes with butter and gravy
Rich desserts
Alcohol

Pet-Friendly Treats: If you want to give your pet a special treat, opt for safe options like:
Plain, cooked turkey (no bones or skin)
Cooked green beans
Small amounts of plain pumpkin puree

Manage Stress: With increased activity and unfamiliar faces, Thanksgiving can be stressful for pets. Provide them with a quiet, safe space to retreat to, such as a crate or a quiet room.

Decorations and Chemicals: Keep an eye on your pet around decorations. Avoid using candles or other open flames, and be cautious with plants that may be toxic to pets.

Busted Myth: You Don't Need a Dog Trainer Until Your Puppy is Older!

We've all been there - thinking "Sit" is all a puppy needs to learn. But guess what? Puppies are little sponges, soaking everything in from day one!

Don't Wait, Early Training is Crucial:
Unwanted habits: Puppies left untrained can develop bad habits like nipping or jumping, which are harder to fix later.

 Top 3 Early Training Priorities:
• Potty Training: Establish a routine to avoid accidents.
• Prevent Nipping & Playful Interactions: Teach them gentle play and how to use chew toys.
• Bonding: Build trust and let your pup know you're their safe haven.

Ready to get started?

Make the choice: Work with an expert (dog trainer) to start your pup on the right paw. Put in the work now for a well-behaved pup later, or face unwanted behaviors later that will take even longer to correct.

Did you know? Even service dogs start training young and train for about 18-24 months! It takes dedication, but the rewards are amazing.

Get a head start! Download our FREE "Sample Puppy Schedule To Start Potty Training And Good Habits" guide and set your pup on the path to success! Grab your free guide here: https://wowbowwowoc.newzenler.com/f/sample-puppy-schedule-list

Dogs make our lives better—they cuddle with us when we need someone to lean on, or just gives us a good laugh with their antics.

Share a pictures of your “Support Dog”!

This is Jill—she helped me have a better understanding about reactivity in dogs. That they are having a hard time. . .that they just want to feel safe. She taught me to take things slow. Progress takes patience, compassion, and I may have to speak up for her at times.

But she also makes me laugh when she runs around the house with her toy, giving it a good shake, making excited growly noises. And she brings a smile to my face when she comes up to me when I’m at my desk, looking up at me asking to jump up onto my lap for a cuddle-time.
