WOW BOW WOW-Dog Trainer & Behavior Consultant Hello Fellow Dog Lovers! I'm Linda the dog trainer. I help dog parents raise well-mannered & well-adjusted dogs. Thank you for visiting Wow Bow Wow!

I grew up with dogs and live with several now, Danny and Jill. But Jack is the one who opened my world to fostering and other pursuits to help other dogs in need. When you tell me that you feel overwhelmed and exhausted about what you are dealing with, I know what you mean. Jack was a over-reactive dog that I could not keep under threshold when other people came up to us. I realized Jack was not t

he only dog with these issues, which brought me to what I love doing now----To help the other Jacks in the world so you can have a less stressful life. We focus on helping pet parents with new puppies and adolescent dogs start their journey on the right paw. We want to help them avoid the typical mistakes so we are not called in later to help with behavior modification for pulling like a train on walks, biting and chewing, barking at anyone at the door, jumping on people, barking and lunging at other dogs and people, and many more issues. We can help with personalized training in your home, group classes or through interactive online classes. We also provide support and guidance for pet guardians with mature dogs. We personalized training in your home, group classes and online classes/membership that cover basic foundational training as well as behavior modification programs. You are an amazing pet parent to come here looking for answers, solutions & support. Let's chat about your dog and how we can help. Call/text us at 714.794.9625

Dog Training That Translates To Real Life

You've likely invested time teaching "sit" and "stay," aiming for that "well-behaved" dog.

But let's be honest, how does basic obedience really hold up when the doorbell rings, a stranger or dog pops up, or you're in a brand-new environment?

The uncomfortable truth? Traditional obedience often leaves you totally unprepared for the moments that truly matter.

A perfectly executed "sit" won't teach your dog to understand you in a high-stress situation. It won't help them chill out when the mailman arrives or genuinely feel safe when that other dog is barking and lunging on your walk.

Frankly, without building that deep foundation of communication, "good behavior" can sometimes just be suppression – not genuine comfort or understanding.

This is Where We're Different.
We don't just train dogs. We build relationships. Our programs go way beyond the typical "sit," "down," and "stay." We focus on life skills – the kind that empower your dog and, more importantly, forge unbreakable communication between you two. The result? Your dog genuinely feels safe and secure in any situation . . and listens to you.

Think of it:
⭐ A rock-solid recall: So they come back because your connection is built on you listening to and understanding their needs, even amidst distractions.
⭐ Calmness in chaos: They learn to look to you for reassurance, rather than panicking (no more barking and lunging!), because they feel safe by your side.
⭐ Polite greetings: They learn to greet guests with a calm, 'four-on-the-floor' demeanor, replacing enthusiastic jumping with polite, relaxed behavior.
⭐ Confident, focused walks: Because of clear communication, they stay attuned to you and feel secure, actually enjoying every outing.

We use those foundational cues – yes, even "sit" and "down" – not as an end goal. They're the language through which we build this incredible communication and equip them with the skills to feel safe and secure with you.

The Real Magic? Train for Real Life, Real Challenges.
If you're tired of "training" that doesn't translate to real life, and you're ready for a dog who's confident, calm, and genuinely happy by your side, it's time to explore life skills training that builds clear communication.

If your dog is good with crowds and lkes wearing costumes, bring them to the Barktoberfest in Costa Mesa this Sat, Oct 18th, 11am-2pm.

If you’re considering adopting a dog, there will be several rescues where you may meet your next potential pal.

And come say hi—I have a table at the event!

For those with reactive dogs on walks...let's dance when they don't 💃🕺

You know the feeling. That tension, the quick scan for triggers, the heart-in-your-throat moment when another dog or person appears.

But then... your dog spots it. You manage to create just enough space. You're ready to use your cues to disengage them, if you need to. And your amazing dog looks at the trigger, disengages, and looks back at you for that sweet, sweet reward!

That moment? That tiny victory? That's when you do the happy dance! 🥳

I just had one of those moments with one of my client's dog--Amber--on our training walk this week.

When your dog chooses you over the distraction, when they learn to cope instead of explode, that's everything.

Those small wins are the moments that build big transformations.

Raise your hand if you know this happy dance feeling! ✋

Your Dog Isn't Stubborn—They're Overwhelmed

It’s one of the most frustrating moments in training: your dog knows the cue, but in a busy park or around a new distraction, they act like they've never heard you before.

You might think, "They're being stubborn," but the reality is simpler and more compassionate: they're just overwhelmed.

When a dog is faced with too much going on, their brain goes into survival mode. That noise, that squirrel, or that other dog is flooding their system, and their ability to focus, learn, or even hear you effectively shuts down. They are physically unable to perform the task you're asking of them.

What to do instead:
✔️ Move Back: Increase the distance between your dog and the distraction. Find a spot where they are just under their threshold—where they can see the distraction but still respond to you.

✔️ Lower the Criteria: Ask for something easy, like simple hand-target, to get their attention. Once you have their focus, you can then break down the steps for what you're ultimately asking of them (e.g., asking for a short "sit" before attempting a long "stay").

✔️ Pay Up: Use high-value rewards (like chicken or cheese) when you ask for attention in a distracting environment. Make listening to you the most rewarding choice in the room.

Training isn't about fighting stubbornness; it's about managing the environment so your dog is in a state where they can actually learn.

Tell me, what's the one environment where your dog goes from perfect student to totally overwhelmed?

Hello Fellow Dog Lovers!

Hello Fellow Dog Lovers! My name is Linda. I grew up with dogs and live with several now, Danny, Jill and Sammy. But Jack is the one who opened my world to fostering and other pursuits to help other dogs in need.

Tell us about your dog and your problems. We have viable solutions so you can have the dog you want as a member of your family and home. We can help you train your dog using positive reinforcement methods while having a fun time building your relationship with your dog. We can help you regain your peace of mind.

As well as being a dog behavior consultant, we are a Canine Good Citizen Evaluator and can help you and your dog prepare for the test. Ask us about preparation classes.
