Artemis Veterinary Dr. Karen Patti, a trusted veterinarian since 2005, offers compassionate care for your furry companions at Artemis Veterinary.
(5)

Her services include both in-clinic appointments and convenient home visits for your pet's comfort. Dr. Patti specializes in and focuses on providing in-home pet euthanasia because she feels it is a service that is very much needed, especially during the pandemic when pet owners have been unable to join their pets inside veterinary clinics. She believes that pet owners typically want to say goodby

e in the home but there is often difficulty with finding and scheduling someone to perform pet euthanasia in the home. Dr. Patti feels she is well-suited for this role, as she has a great deal of compassion for her clients and what they experience in the euthanasia process. She knows first-hand how difficult the decision is to euthanize and how much it impacts the family, as it was a decision she had to make (and carry out) herself two years ago. Her own experience and what she has realized with helping many others through the process allows her to relate exceptionally well to her clients and work with them with extreme care. Dr. Patti received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She also has a Bachelor of Science in Zoology from the University of Oklahoma and received advanced training as an Emergency Medical Technician at Oklahoma City Community College.

CAPC (Companion Animal Parasite Council) considers Massachusetts a high-risk state for ticks. This means our furry companions are more likely to encounter these parasites while exploring our parks, backyards, or even just our own living rooms (if ticks hitch a ride indoors on pets or clothing).

Tick-Borne Diseases: Ticks can transmit a variety of diseases to pets, including:
- Lyme disease: One of the most common tick-borne illness in Massachusetts, Lyme disease, can cause fever, lethargy, joint pain, and even kidney failure if left untreated.
- Anaplasmosis: This bacterial infection can cause anemia, fever, weakness, and loss of appetite.
- Ehrlichiosis: This potentially life-threatening disease affects a dog's immune system and can lead to bleeding problems, neurological issues, and even death.

Prevention is Key
Treating tick-borne diseases can be expensive and requires medication. Fortunately, preventing tick infestations is much easier and more affordable. At Artemis Veterinary, we can recommend the best tick prevention medication for your pet based on their age, breed, and lifestyle.

Summer is around the corner!

Is your furry friend ready for the hot weather? Here are some tips to keep them comfy:

Hydration is key! - Make sure your dog has access to fresh, cool water at all times. You can even add ice cubes to their bowl for an extra refreshing drink.

Shady days are happy days- Avoid walks during the hottest part of the day. Early mornings and evenings are ideal for getting some exercise. ☀️

Bring the cool zone inside- Create a cool spot for your dog to relax indoors, like a basement or bathroom with tile floors. You can also try a cooling mat or fan. ❄️

Pawsitively protect those paws! - Asphalt can get scorching hot. Test the pavement with your hand before taking your dog for a walk. If it's too hot for you, it's too hot for them!

Ice, ice, puppy! - Frozen treats like Kongs filled with peanut butter or broth popsicles are a great way to cool your dog down while giving them a tasty treat.

What are your favorite ways to keep your dog cool in the summer? Share your tips in the comments below!
