HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!! 💐💐
Celebrating every mom out there! Hope everyone has an enjoyable day!
We haven't posted about Ranger in a while, but today he went for walkies with his big foster bro, Calvin. This was a HUGE accomplishment for him, because he is terrified to leave the house....well anything outside of the yard. He always has his tail tucked and is darting or hiding. Today, Calvin gave him the confidence to walk on a loose leash and no tail tucking. He was watchful of everything, but not reactive (except for cars, he did hide behind me for those). He actually seemed to enjoy it!!! One more milestone for Ranger! ❤️❤️
Zara had some outings this week and this is a video of one of her first ones. You may ask......what am I watching, and what is so special about what she's doing? Zara is 14 weeks in this video. For a puppy, their attention span is that of a gnat. 😂 We are teaching Zara to be calm in her surroundings, not bark or be crazy, and to be more interested in her handler than everything going on around her. It doesn't mean she can't look, it just means that she should be checking in with her handler for feedback and direction regularly. We are also working on building her confidence around new people. Zara was a little scared of new people at first, and didn't react the best, but with the work we've been doing she's gaining more confidence and is more open to interactions. You may also ask, why the stroller? Because Zara is so young, we want to protect her from unwanted germs, and this helps to set her up for success. By limiting her distractions and ability to go after them as she pleases, it helps her understand the expectations better and builds a strong foundation for when she is ready to walk around on her own. She's been also still learning how to walk on a leash and we don't want to overload her.
Zara is making great progress in her training and she will make an amazing companion. Fun fact.....she is very in tune with her people's emotions and is there to comfort at the perfect times. ❤️❤️

Calvin is such a good sport and teacher!! 🤣 We wanted to share this video of Zara with clarification. While we always recommend providing separate feeding areas for your pups (even if there is no food aggression), we are working with Zara specifically on food aggression concerns. We can confidently say, those have been extinguished! Zara is rocking it at her Board and Train!!!
During her first week, we were helping her understand expectations and boundaries when it comes to food, bones, play time, and general manners. All the concerns she came with are now in the past and we are focusing on teaching her how to be the best puppy she can be. Which she's already amazing I might add. Seriously......if I were in the market to add to my zoo, Zara would be staying!! She is the best puppy and will make an amazing companion for the right family. ❤️🥰❤️
Zara has been learning skills such as Sit, Focus, Orienting when called, Walking on leash, and Leave It this past week. Aside from those skills that are strictly verbal, we always start with hand cues and body language. Why? Because dogs don't understand English until it is taught to them. Dogs communicate through body language, so we work with them in ways they best understand before introducing a foreign language. She is super smart and quite the cuddler. 🥰. She is available for adoption through Nirvana Animal Rescue.

Puppy Treasure's very first grooming. Puppies are often very squirmy and scared by all the noises that occur during the grooming process. We like to try to help them through it as best we can. Miss Treasure was happy to have Lexi snuggles while she was learning how the dryer sounds and feels. She was very good for her first grooming and we will continue to work with her so it's not a scary process.
Ranger has been trying so hard to be a good brother for Ramona. He's been so patient waiting for her to be ready to play.....he finally wore he down. 🤣. They played a game of ring around the Rosie right after this. Ramona is going to be a wonderful dog once she's back to good health. She gets along with kids, cats and other dogs of all sizes so far. ❤️
There are still a few things from her wish list we could use... specifically the pill buddies (we are trying to minimize chicken with her), the hydrocortisone wipes, and the marrow bones. Gift cards are also a great option that we can use to get things down the line as her needs change (Amazon, Chewy and Pet Supplies Plus are perfect!). This village is AMAZING!!! We are almost completely set to meet Ramona's needs for the next few months. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Ramona is so loving, but has a little issue with personal space 🤣🤣. She loves to give hugs and nuzzle her face on me. 🥰. You can tell she is just so appreciative of the second chance she has gotten.
We've come up with a plan to help get her healthy and back on track. We are using a high protein food, probiotics and supplements, goats milk, and a soothing shampoo option in addition to her medicated baths as a starting point. After working with Ella (Cinderella), we learned a few tricks to help the skin heal and provide appropriate nutritional benefits. 😉.
We know many want to show their love and support for Ramona and help in her recovery. We put together a wish list on Amazon for Ramona (and Ranger may have slid a toy or 2 in there 😂) for those who would like to donate towards her care. We realize the food can be costly, so a gift card to go towards the purchase of food is a great alternative. The shirts listed are for her current size and one up for her to "grow" into. If you find another style you would like to get for her, her measurements are 28" chest and 21" back.
Ramona is feeling all the love, prayers, and thoughts. ❤️

I'd like to take the time today to honor someone very special. Lexi has been with K2 for 2 years and I honestly don't know what I would do without her. I'm so proud of everything she has accomplished both personally and professionally, and I look forward to all the things she will accomplish in the future. I've loved watching her grow into the amazing person she is and I can't wait to see all that she is to become. I know she's probably going to give me crap for the video I chose, but to me it captures the raw version of her that everyone loves......the goofiness, the compassion, the dedication. There isn't a day that we work together that we don't laugh. K2 is so proud to have Lexi as part of our team. Happy 2 Year Anniversary Lexi!!! We love you!! ❤️❤️
Chunky Monkey is really coming out of his shell! For his age, he moves like a puppy sometimes. 😂. He loves playing ball and tug, and he enjoys squeaky toys and ripping up a good stuffy now and then. He's having fun playing with the other dogs (just running and gentle play). We've been working on his resource guarding of toys and he is doing so good! We've gotten him to the point where he's just vocalizing and not snapping anymore. Chunk is very vocal to begin with, he loves telling you all about his day while you are scratching his booty. He's starting to become a little snuggler too! He's got fairly good manners in the house, but sometimes he marks when other male dogs are present and you aren't paying attention. He's getting better with this. While he is great with kids, I would recommend no young ones unless they understand boundaries and can be respectful of space. Chunk is a senior boy looking for a loving place to live out the rest of his days. ❤️
If you would like to adopt Chunk, please complete an adoption application with Speranza Animal Rescue.
Chunk, aka Chonky, aka Chunky Monkey, is turning into such a sweet little soul. He was a little out of sorts when he first came, but he's really starting to settle and become a lovely little guy. ❤️. We are learning that some of his grumbles and growls are either play or enjoyment of scritches. He's still a little touchy with his legs and feet, but rightfully so, he hasn't felt well and he's an old man and has typical old man aches. Chunk is with me temporarily until he finds a longer term foster or adopter. His sister was Milo from the Speranza stories, who unfortunately didn't make it. He's adjusting to life without her, but has found comfort in the other dogs and kitties here, and he's starting to love on the humans too. ❤️
All Ranger wants for Christmas is a forever family. 🙏 We know they are out there! Who is willing to give this boy a chance?

I, apparently, wasn't giving him enough attention. 🤣🤣. The dramatics at the end though 😂🤣😂

Ranger is learning some new things! Here he is learning "Middle". I was AMAZED bc this is a scary position for him and he ROCKED it! He is also learning "Down", which is also a scary position, and he's learning to "Spin". His foster brother and sisters are helping him and giving him the confidence to try.
Side note......we stay away from teaching things like Paw, Shake, and High Five during basics training. Why? Because dogs will always do the easiest thing they know to either get your attention or when they aren't sure what you are asking. By rewarding this behavior and showing them you like it, you are teaching them to basically slap you whenever they want something bc this will become their go-to. We wait to teach these things until boundaries and expectations are set, and they've learned their basics.

Bella was too small and needed help, but she gave it her best effort! Harold wasn't interested in this nonsense. He'd rather sleep. 💤
Maizy enjoyed the nibble technique. Sometimes it helped to shove our toes in a hole while we were going for the treats (that was in one of the still pics) 🤣 The eyes though 😆
Henry felt the best technique was to not waste time getting the carrot out and just dive right in. 🤣. His snorts were killing us 🤣🤣
Ranger was a little apprehensive. He was fine with the carrots, but not a fan of the holder. 🤣. Poor guy thought he was in trouble when Haley told the littles to stop barking.
Iris was more interested in hoarding the puzzle so no one else could get it. 😆😆
Kiwi and Calvin..... showing everyone how it's done. Kiwi had to go in up to her eyebrows to reach the treats 🤣
