What a nice article from our colleague in California. Thinking about special things to do as part of your pet's final moments can make the experience more peaceful for you and your beloved pet.

Today we are remembering Arthur. With fondness from his family:

On February 23, 2022 we said goodbye to our Arthur. He was our mischievous, extremely affectionate, very vocal family member and baby of our family. He truly LOVED us, gave the best hugs and was only happy if I was carrying him around like a baby. I’m thankful to Dr. Suzanne for her compassion and empathy and for letting my Arthur leave this world in the place he loved to be more than anywhere else, my arms. Arthur made his mark on our family and we will always love him and miss him. My son would always ask Arthur if he was a good boy and then tell him that he was and give him a boop on the nose. Arthur was such a good boy. I hope he has an eternity of hugs and nose boops wherever he is now.

Our Story

Hello, I'm Casey. During my time as a general practitioner in Austin, Texas, I began to notice a real problem in the way in which we approach end-of-life care. Wrapped up in the non-stop energy of wellness care, internal medicine, and surgery, I found that I and my colleagues were unable to slow down and be there for our patients and their families who were going through this final and very important life stage. It isn't that we didn't care, it's that we couldn't stop and breathe. How could we prioritize death over life when there were patients to treat, surgeries to perform? But, as I practiced and learned about medicine and about life, I realized a simple fact: every life ends in death.

And so I stopped and took a breath . . . and Doorstep Vet was born. Here we pay time and attention to the smaller things, we slow down and enjoy what life we have--both our own and that of our patients. We don't see twenty appointments in a day, we see three. We bring simplicity, peace, and comfort to our clients and to our patients. I'm still breathing and I've never looked back.
