The I Litter is 3 weeks old today. They are starting to play. It will get really rough and intense in another 3 weeks! They all have deposits reserving them now.

We have discovered puppy food mush today. Momma is getting stir crazy about being confined with them, so she will be happy to begin the weaning process.

G Litter siblings, Genie Gray and Uhtred, had a big time at an IDS dock diving trial this weekend. Uhtred is also enjoying frisbee training. Genie Gray and Fancy, sisters from different litters, are both enrolled in an Up Dog Challenge frisbee training course at CAL K9 which begins this week. Bring on the fun! Brigitta will be showing at an Up Dog competition next Saturday.

Cammy (C Litter) and Dalton (D Litter) both had passes all weekend at a Shed Dog competition. Cammy took a 4th place on Saturday, and just missed a ribbon on Sunday by a tenth of a second. Good job! Baby Gauge is working to be ready for his shed dog debut before long!

Yoda was sent in to the brush at 8:15 this morning and took down an armed Danelo Cavalcante.
This ended unknown anxiety, anguish and frustration for law enforcement and the Chester County community.
Yoda is a 4-year-old Belgian Malinois.

Today we celebrate Java's 13th birthday. We thought the current litter would be born today for his birthday, but they decided to beat it by about 6 hours. Java is the sire, or grandsire, of all of our litters. He is our first Belgian Malinois, after having German Shepherds since the 1990's, and Dobes prior to that. We have never left the Mal breed since. Java sired five police K9s and his offspring are currently titled in obedience, rally obedience, lure coursing, dock diving, agility, frisbee and scent events. Java has earned the AKC titles CD, BN, RE, CAA, DCAT, CGC and a Schutzhund BH, and he is still ready and excited to show off his training skills when visitors come to check out our dogs.

An "I" litter update...Ayla is scheduled for a puppy count x-ray on 8/31. We have eight spoken for, but we will see soon what the litter outcome will be! Expected date is 9/6.

Renni and Fancy both earned Senior Dock Dive titles last weekend.

Back at the dock this morning. This is Renni, Fancy's mom, and mother of the F and G litters. Both girls just had their personal best times. Hoping to have Senior Dock Diving titles earned by this afternoon. The dogs must have five splashes within a 5' distance range to earn a specific distance title. They are already jumping at the Senior Level range at their first trial.

Hero (H Litter) has shared some pics from a fun summer vacation to The Great Smoky Mountains, Ft Mountain State Park, GA and also Florida. He stayed at the "Doggywood" kennel while his family played at Dollywood, enjoyed the town walks, camping and swimming. Hero has also earned his AKC Trick Dog Advanced title!

We have just bred her parents for a repeat breeding of this litter (Hickory Ridge Red Falcon x Drac's Ayla). Hickory Ridge Red Falcon x Drac's Ayla. This is a repeat breeding of our past November litter (the H Litter). Parents are AKC registered, hold performance titles. Embark DNA Clear and OFA Hips/Elbows rated Good and Excellent. Visitors are welcome to meet these dogs in person at our home.

Last night was Fancy's 4th pool lesson, and she conquered diving off of the dock. We plan to take her to some competitions before the season ends for this year. Fancy is a littermate to Jesi (F Litter).

Cammy and Dalton just earned FIT DOG Bronze titles. Jesi has Bronze, Brigitta has Gold, Fancy has Silver, Nia and Genie Gray are working on titles. It is a lot of fun to add titles to your dog's registered name! You can do a search on AKC to locate dogs by name, so it is great to see all of the Hickory Ridge family that way. Using the kennel name is helpful in keeping up and staying connected with all of the pups! Check out the Facebook group Hickory Ridge AKC FIT DOG Club if you would like to consider becoming involved. Request to join the group, and I will approve your acceptance.

We get asked why we choose Mals over GSD's, which we had for many years. Here is our foundation male Java today, doing some ball play time. He will be 13 years old in 2 months, and he still has good movement. Our shepherds never held up this well during their last years.

Hickory Ridge Brigitta, Nia, Genie Gray and Fancy ran the Adventure Canine 5K Challenge this morning. We all had a great time, and Ben and Nia had the 4th place time. We had to do obstacles such as swimming a pond, wading in creeks, going over and under obstacles and squeezing through a tunnel in hay bales. The plan is for another one to be held this fall and then again next May. We hope that some more Hickory Ridge dogs can join us then.

We look forward to have Hero (H Litter) stay with us for boarding. He has earned three AKC titles, at this time, TKN (Trick Dog Novice) and VHMP and VHMA (Virtual Home Manners titles).

We are having fun at a Fast CAT coursing event today. Fancy, F Litter, has improved her time on each of her six runs, and completed her FCAT with a 27.53 mph 100 yard this morning. There will be many of these events again next fall, so we hope to see more Hickory Ridge dogs running.
