COLD SAFETY
- Hypothermia and Frostbite: As temperatures plummet, you are at greater risk for frostbite and hypothermia. Frostbite is a bodily injury caused by freezing that results in loss of feeling and color in affected areas. Hypothermia occurs when a person is exposed to very cold temperatures for too long. Read more on signs and prevention here: https://bit.ly/41TyZTs
- Pets: Your pets need special care during cold weather. They may have long fur but can, and will, get cold and suffer if left outside. Once the temperatures drop below 32 degrees, limit outdoor time as much as possible. For more information to keep your pets safe, click here: https://bit.ly/3SfHu79
- Water Lines/Pipes: As cold temperatures approach, it’s time to review how to prevent frozen pipes in your home. This can be prevented by detaching garden hoses from the house, opening cabinets to allow warm air to circulate around the pipes, and leaving your faucets dripping or trickling. Read more prevention tips here: https://bit.ly/48ReHMy
- Wind Chill: Wind chills are expected to reach (see below) today. A wind chill is the combination of wind and extremely low temperature. This makes it much easier for people outside to experience frostbite and hypothermia. Take action by dressing in several layers, covering any exposed skin, and limiting outdoor time.
