Do you know the hard-working people and board members behind the care of our wonderful animals and those who just make PCAR possible? Let us introduce ourselves:
Rhonda Strong is our Director (President) and Treasurer. She is the back bone to the organization and main caretaker. She cares for the animals daily, runs intake and adoptions, manages financies and donations, and so much more. Jessie Melton DVM is the Director of Veterinary Care. As a licensed veterinarian she oversees the health of our animals. This includes vaccinating, helping with spaying/neutering, exams, and treatment for medical cases that come in or may occur in shelter. Megan Batt holds the Secretary position on our board. She works as a veterinary technician and helps with vaccines and giving medications. She also helps transport animals to the vet and grooming if needed. Karen Orozco is one of our board members. She helps a lot with our cats. She transports cats to get spayed/neutered to PEP in Bland. She also helps with general care of our animals and helps with taking pictures. PCAR works closely with her non-profit Starlit Strays to help with feral cat cases. Savannah Orozco another one of our board members is responsible for all the fantastic photos of our adoptable animals. She also helps manage our social media accounts. Derek Reynolds is the last of our board members. He has animal care experience, working as a veterinarian technician. Then we have our group of volunteers that have made such a difference in these animal’s life. These include Aaron Batt, David Strong, Lauren, Nancy, Clancy Ray, KJ Stevenson, and Melanie Dent. And we can’t forget local groups that have given so much help and support such as Dr. Chitwood at St. James Veterinary Medical Center and Cub Creek Science Camp. Thank you to all that have supported us through volunteering, donations, and of course through adoptions. We hope to continue helping animals find safe and loving homes!

Snowball is a little timid and takes a few days to adjust to new environment but once she feels safe she is so much fun. She does play a little mouthy so small kids are not a good idea.

Meet Gingerbread Hag!!

This sweet 1 year old girl we originally thoughts was feral so we eartipped her. However, she said hold up I want to sit on laps, stay inside where it is warm/cool and dry and get lots of cuddles and attention. Therefore, we listened and now she is snuggled in our cat room waiting for her forever family. She had severe fleas when we found her and her hair is slowly growing back.

She is spayed, vaccinated, dewormed, current flea/tick prevention, Felv/fiv tested and microchipped.

Boots is a 6 year old girl. This sweet girl is used to to spending her days lounging around. Her previous owner could no longer afford to care for her or her brother Thunder so surrendered them to us to find a new home.

DOG OF THE DAY!

This super sweet girl is timid with new people and needs a house where she can have a safe place when she feels overwhelmed. Once she feels safe she is an absolute love bug. She would do best in a home without small children.
She will be your new best friend and shadow if you give her time to feel comfortable.

She is spayed, vaccinated, dewormed, current flea/tick/heartworm prevention, heartworm tested and microchipped.

Snowball is a terrier mix. She is 3-4 years old and a little timid at first. However, she comes around quickly and just wants love. This little girl has so much love to give. She will sit for hours letting you pet her or just sit next to you. She is housebroken. She weighs 30-35 lbs and very short. She is so ready for a home where she can spend more time with her forever family. She would do best in a home without small children or where she could be separated from them when they visit.

She is spayed,, age appropriate vaccines, dewormed, current flea/tick/heartworm prevention and microchipped.

Jimmy and Tammy became new friends today. They don't understand how they haven't received a single application on them. They both have the sweetest personalities and complete love bugs.

Tammy is 6-8 lbs and Jimmy is 12-13 lbs.

Sophia has been here to long. This sweet, smart girl deserves a family. She is shy when she meets new people But opens up if just given time. She just want to please her family. No one wants to live in a crowded shelter for months.

Meet Gabe!!

He was born around 4/5/24! He is a hound mix and uses those eyes to prove it. If you want a pup that will always get his way by giving you those sweet puppy dog eyes, then this is the pup for you. We think he is worth getting his way. He is friendly, loves other dogs and people.

Meet Riley!!

She’s a 10 month old Australian Shepherd mix weighing 35 lbs. Her lower eyelids were rolling in and causing a lot of irritation, but she had surgery to fix it, and her eyes look so much better.

She is active and loves being with people and other dogs, so she would do best in a home where she can be active and have playmates. She would make the perfect farm dog as she would stay close to her people. She does great with kids, and she hasn’t had much interaction with cats, but the little bit she has had she seems to be curious, but not aggressive in any way. She’s very sweet and smart, and she’s eager to learn.

She is spayed, vaccinated, dewormed, current flea/tick/heartworm prevention and microchipped.

Yesterday was one of the worst days for me since we opened 4 years ago. We lost sweet, adorabl, funny Jack.

He started vomiting after surgery but seemed alright so they transported him back to shelter. Upon pulling him from carrier, I knew something was off. I will forever blame myself in not realizing soon enough he was failing and getting help sooner. He is the first in over 1800 surgeries there has ever been an issue.

I rushed him to St. James Medical Center where Jason and the receptionist stayed late to try to save him. Jason was incredible. He did everything in his power to save him but poor Jack just wasn't strong enough.

He was preadopted and this adopter was devastated. However, this morning I came into a gift in front of the door from her. I am not sure I deserve it but I am extremely grateful.

Today as you go about your day. Please take an extra minute to love on your pets in honor of sweet Jack!

Our Board

We came together to make a difference for the animals in our community. Our group includes many that are knowledgeable in animals, business, and taxes.

Gene Matlock, President: He has been involved in other nonprofit organizations, construction and helped get many small businesses started up.

Rhonda Strong, Vice President, Treasurer, and Shelter Director: She is an accountant and enrolled agent with the IRS. She has worked at a no kill shelter for 4 years in the past and will be running the day to day of the shelter.

Megan Smith, Secretary: She is currently a vet tech. She volunteered/worked at a no kill shelter for 7 years, worked at a dog boarding facility in Australia, and worked with the animals at Cub Creek for 8 years. She will be volunteering at the shelter and along with Dr. Melton in charge of training new volunteers.
