Do you know the hard-working people and board members behind the care of our wonderful animals and those who just make PCAR possible? Let us introduce ourselves:
Rhonda Strong is our Director (President) and Treasurer. She is the back bone to the organization and main caretaker. She cares for the animals daily, runs intake and adoptions, manages financies and donations, and so much more. Jessie Melton DVM is the Director of Veterinary Care. As a licensed veterinarian she oversees the health of our animals. This includes vaccinating, helping with spaying/neutering, exams, and treatment for medical cases that come in or may occur in shelter. Megan Batt holds the Secretary position on our board. She works as a veterinary technician and helps with vaccines and giving medications. She also helps transport animals to the vet and grooming if needed. Karen Orozco is one of our board members. She helps a lot with our cats. She transports cats to get spayed/neutered to PEP in Bland. She also helps with general care of our animals and helps with taking pictures. PCAR works closely with her non-profit Starlit Strays to help with feral cat cases. Savannah Orozco another one of our board members is responsible for all the fantastic photos of our adoptable animals. She also helps manage our social media accounts. Derek Reynolds is the last of our board members. He has animal care experience, working as a veterinarian technician. Then we have our group of volunteers that have made such a difference in these animal’s life. These include Aaron Batt, David Strong, Lauren, Nancy, Clancy Ray, KJ Stevenson, and Melanie Dent. And we can’t forget local groups that have given so much help and support such as Dr. Chitwood at St. James Veterinary Medical Center and Cub Creek Science Camp. Thank you to all that have supported us through volunteering, donations, and of course through adoptions. We hope to continue helping animals find safe and loving homes!

Moss, Reed, Meeko (all the way to Wisconsin), and one of our longest pups Sophia all found their forever homes and Wesson, Stormy and Rain was preadopted and will be going home as soon as they are neutered/spayed.

Thank you to Jane our outside ferals have plenty of straw and thanks to my husband the windows are covered and everyone has beds and snuggled in. The generator is accessible if needed with fuel ready.
Thank you everyone for helping us to keep them warm and safe.

If anyone has an extra bag or two of straw our ferals would love some more insulation.

We would love to see these sweet dogs find forever homes today. These concrete floors are cold even with raised beds, blankets and heat on. We have never been so full during such cold weather.

We had a pledge towards adoption prices so today only any dog in this group adoption price will only be $50 to help get them into a comfy home.

DOG OF THE DAY!!

Meet Chex. He was from a litter of 18 that we took. He is a loving pup that just wants to please his people. Counting him we still have 6 left. They are one of the best litters of pups we have had. He is so ready for a nice loving home. They are getting bigger and two per kennel is getting crowded.

This is one of the 18 puppies. They were born 4/28/24 and are lab/heeler mix. This litter is super sweet, playful, smart and dog friendly. He is so elegant and ready for his new home.

He is a 1 year old Corgi/daschund mix. He is super friendly and loves toys. He is till in quarantine so haven't tested with other dogs or cats but he has no reaction to them through kennel.

He will be neutered, dewormed, vaccinated, heartworm tested, current flea/tick/heartworm prevention and microchipped.

He is an older boy between 7-10 years old and this poor boy came in so matter, full of fleas, ear mites and an ear infection. We have got him combed out. Which he absolutely loved, flea meds and working on the ear. He is such a lover.

Our Board

We came together to make a difference for the animals in our community. Our group includes many that are knowledgeable in animals, business, and taxes.

Gene Matlock, President: He has been involved in other nonprofit organizations, construction and helped get many small businesses started up.

Rhonda Strong, Vice President, Treasurer, and Shelter Director: She is an accountant and enrolled agent with the IRS. She has worked at a no kill shelter for 4 years in the past and will be running the day to day of the shelter.

Megan Smith, Secretary: She is currently a vet tech. She volunteered/worked at a no kill shelter for 7 years, worked at a dog boarding facility in Australia, and worked with the animals at Cub Creek for 8 years. She will be volunteering at the shelter and along with Dr. Melton in charge of training new volunteers.
