This baby needs a forever home

Jazz was a rescue from New Orleans after the hurricane. He is an 8 year old Maine C**n cat. He is very hairy. He is litter box trained. He is very friendly and playful. He is good with dogs. He’s very loving. We are sad to let him go! If you need more pictures please let us know.❤️

Christmas was a shelter dog that we helped out after he had been returned. The family who adopted him had no husky experience and could not handle his mouthing behavior, which is common in puppies but typically corrected by the time they are adult dogs. Poor Christmas was not taught manners in his young life and it ended up getting him dumped again by the adopters. The cycle was destined to be repeated, so we intervened and got him out of there so that we could give him guidance and a helping hand. Consequently, he has cleaned up his act and is now a well mannered dog. We do want him to go to someone who "gets" this breed. He deserves to get into a home and call it his forever home. At one year old, Christmas has been let down hard by way too many people and that needs to stop with this adoption.

On the plus side, he is beautiful. He is a happy dog with a huge personality and he loves people and other dogs. He did fine with the fosters cat, and showed no aggression. We still advise caution when meeting any new cats. He is small, between 35-40 lbs. although some of that is from being underweight. He could use 5 lbs or so. He is very smart and understands what is going on around him. Christmas is crate trained, potty trained, knows basic commands now and has discontinued the mouthing behavior. He is a good boy, but he is headstrong and wants his own way, so he needs firm guidance from his people. He has no aggression whatsoever, but he growl talks, which can be off putting. Once you get past that, you realize he is just communicating.

$90 Non-Spayed Female (covers spay surgery, rabies vaccine, heartworm test and microchip)
$80 Non-Neutered Males (covers neuter surgery, rabies vaccine, heartworm test and microchip)
$35 Fixed Male or Female (covers impound fee, rabies vaccine, heartworm test and microchip)

501c3 rescues can pull for free (does not cover spay/neuter)

Rescues must provide spay/neuter paperwork to Highlands County Animal Services within 30 days

Please be aware that when you adopt a dog/cat from Animal Services and they go to the veterinarian for their spay/neuter surgery, they will charge you a small fee for a bath & flea/tick prevention.

If you are interested in a dog or cat, please make sure that you have a solid plan in place before having the dog or cat pulled or adopted. We just want to make sure that at the end of it, the dog or cat gets the loving home he/she deserves, not taken back to Animal Services because everything wasn't thought through and it has nowhere to go.
If you can't help by adopting one of these fantastic dogs or cats, you can also pledge to help with money for a rescue to help cover the cost of the medical necessities for the dog/cat. Pledges help to fund the efforts of rescues who are already cash-strapped. To make a pledge, post it in the thread of the dog/cat that you are wanting to help and we will track it. If the dog or cat gets saved, we will post what rescue you can honor your pledge to. Please know that due to changes with Facebook, we cannot message you.
