2025 Broiler Update

We will be running broilers this year and are taking reservations. We sold out for 2024 so get your reservations in early. Still working with our vendors but we expect to run Barred Rock and possibly Dark Cornish.

This is a deposit on broilers that will be processed in late October or early November. The deposit is non-refundable. We ask for deposits on the birds to help with the substantial cost of pasture raising organic food. Did you know that pasture-raised birds still need to be fed? And they eat tons......

A big thank you to the kind folks at The Home Depot in Blaine for donating their Christmas trees as a treat for the goats. The goats love nibbling on them and then use the branches in the spring to shed their winter coats.

Crunch time is upon us folks. After a brutal year we still need to get hay into the barn for Winter.

If certain folks can raise 1/2 million to throw a kegger for a bunch of frat boys, I don't feel guilty anymore about asking for a few bucks to help us care for endangered livestock breeds.

The goal is $7,000 which will cover hay and poultry feed. Any additional will go toward general livestock care and improvements in their facilities.

As always, we welcome our supports and the general public out to the farm to meet the goats and learn more about the vital importance of preserving heritage livestock.

Can't say how proud I am to be a Bluecoat right now. Not because of a winning streak or a world championship but because of a long Bluecoats history of sportsmanship and innovation and doing the right thing when it's hard to do.

Congrats to all the "kids" this year, to the Bluecoats and to all of the corps. You remind me again every year the values I learned on tour so many decades ago.

Yesterday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration finally banned the use of the herbicide DCPA/Dacthal which is used on cabbage, broccoli, onions, and more. Studies indicate it can cause severe, permanent damage to fetuses when pregnant mothers are exposed.

The FDA has had concerns for over 10 years but the sole manufacturer, AMVAC, continually avoided giving the requested data.

So, what's the take away here? Simple. This shouldn't happen. Toxic chemicals belong nowhere near our food. But companies are motivated by profits and chemicals allow more tons of "food" to be produced for less money.

The only way you can know that your food is safe is to KNOW YOUR FARMER. Visit the farmers markets and visit farms.
