Here’s a Friday Feel Good Story…last Friday we had a TNR clinic. That means cats are trapped, then neutered, then released back where they were trapped. Twenty-nine Crawford County cats that had been contributing to the overpopulation problem (or were the result of this problem) were fixed! These cats were from all over the county. Caring people took time out of their busy lives to get these cats to us. Thank you to each one of you! In the first picture you’ll see that two cats were trapped in one trap. We are glad that worked out! The second picture shows the cats in their carriers in the back of Crawford County Humane Society’s van ready for transport. The towels covering the carriers allow the cats a sense of peace, at least somewhat, as they travel. The cats are also wrapped in these towels as they recover from their procedure. Much care is put into these clinics, and we are so thankful for Pet Wellness in Effingham to work with us. It makes us feel good to help Crawford County with the over-population problem it faces. Who has thousands of homes in mind where these kittens can go? No one. There is nowhere for them to go! Shelters and rescues are overwhelmed. Euthanasia is happening to healthy animals all the time. We all can help with spay and neuter!

UPDATE: MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

Here’s a Friday Feel Good Story…Meet Roxie and Rosie. These two pampered pussycats were trapped at a location in Robinson that is infamous as an out-of-control cat colony. (We call it “The Chestnut Colony.” There are so many unclaimed cats in this neighborhood, and Paws for Prevention and friends have put a lot of effort and money into getting it under control…and we still have work to do.) When these kittens were trapped, they were too young and too little to be fixed. They were taken in as fosters to be socialized as they got bigger. SUCCESS…they are very sociable, or should we say loving? Roxie, you'll notice, has her ear tipped because she was fixed at one of our TNR clinics. Rosie, who is actually 2 months older than Roxie, has not been fixed yet due to stunted growth and respiratory issues (life in poor conditions can do that), but she is improving and will be fixed when it is safe to do so. And although they were not and will not be returned to the colony, they seem to be quite content with this “furever” home. We feel good about that!

Here’s a Friday Feel Good Story … This lovely gal is Iris. A gentlemen found her outside of TJ’s diner in Robinson and had seen her there for quite some time. He checked with the neighbors in the area, and no one claimed the kitten. She was eating out of the dumpsters, and patrons were feeding her. He took her home as he had lost his cat companion the year before. He applied for a Paws for Prevention discount certificate that helped him pay for her spay, and he had her vaccinated as well. He, being 80 years old, soon decided that this fairly feral kitten required more attention and care than he could give her. He posted her picture to find her a new home. Another particular human had just lost her cat, and this particular human’s mom saw the post. The caring gentleman required they have a few meet and greets before handing over the kitten. Those meet and greets were successful, and we are told she is the best cat ever. She doesn't claw any furniture. She goes to the basement to use her litter box. And she didn’t climb the Christmas tree! We are told her only downfall is her 3 A.M. zoomies down the hallway while playing with her ball that has a bell in it. But hey, a kitty’s gotta play! We are feeling good that Iris has such a happy life.

Here’s a Friday Feel Good Story – Meet Oogie. He was one in a litter of kittens born under a storage building. His mama was a wild one. As the kittens grew, Oogie and his family were frequent visitors at a caring human’s nearby carport. The human, however, did not appreciate all the dead gifts that were presented to her, and the cats remained untouchable. After much effort on the part of this caring human who teamed up with Paws for Prevention, two of the kittens were trapped, neutered and returned to area. Although the human is reluctant, Oogie has decided to work on becoming a house cat. You got this, Oogie!! You are a wonderful friend to your human. We are rooting for you!
