On this solemn day of remembrance, we would like to pause to thank all of the first responders - including the veterinarians and technicians who volunteered at the mobile veterinary hospital set up at Ground Zero - who worked tirelessly to do what they do best. And may we never forget those who were lost, and those who were saved.

🐈 Exercising your cat may seem challenging at first. With some creativity, you can help your kitty stay in shape! Cats have a natural instinct to hunt prey. Find toys (such as the fishing pole type) that stimulate this instinct. And sometimes a simple crumpled up piece of paper can also work as a toy. Keeping your kitty active helps maintain an ideal body weight and stimulates your cat’s brain.🐈

🐶 Your dog’s crate is a safe haven, not a place for punishment. The crate provides protection while you are away. Before putting your dog in a crate, be sure he has been:
1) exercised well
2) been fed
3) allowed to eliminate and
4) given access to fresh water
Offer a favorite toy to keep your pet occupied when not napping. Keep to a daily schedule to help your dog adjust to the crate space.🐶

🐾🐾 CAUTION! Did you know that the temperature of sidewalks and asphalt can be up to 50° HOTTER than the air temperature in these summer months? With these sweltering days of summer, please use caution when taking your dog out on a walk. Your pet’s paws can get burned. TIP - if you can’t hold your hand to the sidewalk or asphalt for seven seconds, it’s too hot for your pet’s paws! It’s always preferable to walk your dog on the grass whenever possible, and consider getting booties for their paws. Protect your pets!🐾🐾

🐶🐕🦮🐩🦷 Dogs that like to chew on hard surfaces ( e.g.: rocks, bones, tennis balls) are at risk for damaging or breaking their teeth. These damaged teeth are painful for your dog and can become a route for infection to enter the body. As an alternative, consider toys with some flexibility that you can indent with your fingers like a KONG 🐶🦷

🎆🎇🐶🐱 Another big holiday is right around the corner. July 4 is next Friday! Now is the best time to make sure you’ll be set not only for celebrating the day, but keeping your pets safe. Make sure your pets have an ID collar and/or are microchipped; keep your pets indoors and give them a safe, comfortable place furthest away from the noise of fireworks. Play relaxing music, white noise or the TV to distract your pets. Some pets may require medication to help keep them comfortable. Talk to us AS SOON AS POSSIBLE so that we can help you plan ahead for a stress-free 4th for you and your pets.🇺🇸

🐶🐱🚗 NEVER leave your pets in the car! The inside of your car heats to life-threatening levels quickly, even on a seemingly cool day. Cracking the windows or running the air conditioner in the car while you are away DOES NOT WORK! Don’t risk your pets life – take them out of the car when you are not there with them. Better yet, leave them in a cool place at home.
