The new head horse is small but mighty!
For those of you wondering how I teach my ponies to lay down, I use a soft cotton rope on their foot and ask them to bend their nose. Once they realize I give to them them when they bow, it’s only one more small step for them to actually lay down. They figure out what I am asking very quickly and are happy to lay down once they understand.
This colt is a 2 year old gelding and this is his first day at our place. I layed him down once earlier today after putting his first ride on him, then brought him back and asked him to do it again in this video.
I think good timing, and knowing when to ask and knowing when to wait on him, is important to get the result I want. I think it also helps to have the goal and know what needs to happen to get there. Laying one down has been a great tool for me.
This is what we woke up to this morning. Not sure we approve of this training technique 😳
Rollin’ into the weekend like YEEEE HAWWW!!
Hop on and go for a ride!
Only a pony can bring this kind of joy!!
