Our Story
April 1, 1997 - April 1, 2019
Wow, 22 years ago today, Critter Sitters of Bay City opened! A new chapter, a career in Professional Pet Sitting. A profession that wasn’t often recognized, nor preformed back in 1997, other than by family members, or neighbors.
After working in the banking industry for about 18 years; three of them at a bank in Caro, a 35 minute drive, making it impossible to come home and care for my own dog, Haley, on my lunch hour, so she was left with family each day. Then I adopted a second dog, a Dalmatian I named PJ, and now with two dogs, I was unable to drop both of them on family, but needed someone to come to my home. A bit of an inconvenience for family, or friends, on an on-going basis.
After leaving the bank in Caro, I started researching different home based businesses and came across a book written by a Professional Pet Sitter! Really? I could work from home, kind of, and be part of, what became, an up and coming industry--working with animals?! Really?! I knew I couldn’t be the only one who had their furry family members waiting at home each day, sometimes waiting 10 hours between potty breaks, and human contact. So between my own known and personal need, combined with my lifelong love of animals, it was a no brainer what my next occupation would be! Wa-la! Critter Sitters of Bay City was born, and as they say, the rest is history--22 years worth!
